Sergeant Shi Lian, (She Li Ahn) is a character not seen in either History or in the Novel.
He is highly inspired by Gunnery Sergeant Hartman and Sergeant Dornan. Shi Lian is more than just a sergeant by name. He was promoted through combat prowess, fighting bandits and outlaws who may cause any issues with the local populace. He won't appear in the story forever, but he will serve as one of the men who help train Wen Zhu up to a proper military standard. He will be loud, vocal, and clear with his words.
"I'll let it slide this time, Private. But if you ever go off without notifying me again, I'll have you whipped in front of everyone until I think you might get the idea!"
"I am not a sir! I work in this army, you morons!"
"What was that, privates? Did Either of you even pass through any kind of basic training? Fine, I'll train you two."
