Background

The above keywords may seem to contradict or conflict but it’s fair to say that Knight-Captain Blake Forder’s character is like his role in the Brotherhood of Steel; comes packed in pretty heavy armour!

By this I mean that Blake is generally a warm and friendly person he is reserved while he figures people out.This can seem to some more extroverted or open-book type people, that he’s aloof or hiding something but with Blake it’s more that he is observing how others behave and if they are a person he can trust. The more he trusts you, the less reserved he is and the more you know about him and the inner workings of his mind.

Those closest to him find him to be warm, caring, sensitive and extremely protective. It’s fair to say that Knight-Captain Forder and Blake Forder are almost like different versions of him, which is true but don’t be mistaken into thinking that this is for any other reason other than that he takes his role in the Brotherhood seriously but doesn’t want it to bleed over into his personal life entirely.

That said there are reasons why Blake is reserved. He is very self-aware and under all the layers are some strong and big feelings. Add in his BoS role, which has responsibility and some command over others you can begin to understand why and how he is this way. He isn’t emotionless, and there are plenty of situations where what he feels comes out.

Blake can be rather intense. This can be a bit of a double-edged sword with him as it can be just the thing for in the midst of a battle or any other situation which invokes strong emotions but it’s a bit of a battle for him to not let that overflow and be all that influences his actions. 

Blake tends more towards helping rather than not although this is not before he has thought it through and made a considered judgement. He is optimistic but not blind. 

Blake has a long fuse on his temper but given the right push or when it has run out, be careful. He isn’t afraid to speak his mind but as ever he considers his words first. 

He is motivated and driven. In a fight he tends to the push on and overcome but with his constant assessment of the situation guiding him. His mind is seldom quiet! 

He has a strong moral compass but on occasion will ask those closest to him for support or for another perspective. This is a good sign that Blake trusts and values somebody. That said, he will bend small rules, most usually the prissier BoS ones or find a way around them.

Blake was one of four children in a family of farmers. He is practical, capable and hard-working. He is very close to Bernice, they are more of a brother-sister relationship and as they found in the BoS, while they at first grated, they came to realise their manner, personalities and roles complement and support each other. So at times you will see some of Blake’s more steady personality come up in Bernice and Blake will sometimes be bolder, less restrained in what he says and more prone to speaking unfiltered. The influence they have on each other is largely positive.

To other items of note; he is a huge Nuka Cola fan, an enthusiast of pre-war Atomic Age style things, he also enjoys maintaining his power armour and weapon of choice, a laser gatling gun.

Voice

Blake’s role in the BoS means he does have a couple of slightly different ways of speaking and voices. In the BoS he is more formal and when in a battle, training or giving orders he has a voice which he pitches so it can heard loud, clear and carries authority in it. With friends, squad mates, and loved ones, or when off duty, he is more relaxed and less formal although they do sometimes overlap while he decompresses from duty.
