Eva Kovec is a sixteen-year old who, previous to the events of the story, lives in a tranquil coastal hamlet, which is completely disconnected from the rest of the country, where she lives with her sister Lisah, who she does not have a good, healthy or stable relationship with.

Eva is selfless, empathetic and compassionate, but contrary to this, she can be reckless, and at times bullheaded in her decisions, which some see as Eva being a decisive leader... while it alienates others, even if she only cares about the company she keeps, and over the course of the story, wanting to make sure everyone is kept safe and alive. However, deep down, Eva craves companionship: being lonely is a curse to Eva and this fear of being alone is the primary drive that fuels Eva, and her decisions. She yearns for validation and feeling loved, as well as having a petrified fear of abandonment, two flaws that ultimately will be tested throughout the story.
