She's a level headed, motherly figure. However, her strained relationship causes her to re-focus that anger onto her son. Matt seems disconnected from both his parents though they both try hard to do the white picket fence thing. She is a lawyer so she expects her son to make smart choices with his goals for life and from a young age, Matt seems to remember her mostly telling him how being like her will make him more successful than anything else.

Sometimes, things don't always go the way we want them to. No matter how much we wish for it. But that doesn't mean you have to stop believing in something.
Matt! Don't look like such a slob. Do you want to take after your father?
I did more than a few takes with different inflections on the last line. I wanted to try out the "You know you're in deep shit when mom gets quiet" out. I also hope that you don't mind that I gave him a middle name and ad-libbed a little bit. If so, I can always re-record!
