Throughout the story, the readers point of view transitions between that of our main characters, Antony and Robin. In order to best represent this transition auditory, the audiobook narrations will be shared between two voices; one male representing Antony, and one female representing Robin. The narrator role calls for clear pronunciation, drawing attention to the drama and suspense through certain pauses and presentations, and the ability to read long, lengthy paragraphs with ease.

  • (Standard Narration)

    Narrator:

Four - May 5, 2187. The snow fall reflected a foggy warm glow of the city outside of Antony’s home windows. His mansion sat firmly planted along the highest slope outside of Orlinia, with a beautiful view of the city blocking out the sight of the lower Quarter. Antony sat in his bedroom at the foot of his bed, staring out the window at the city, like a lord over his kingdom from afar. He was Orlinia’s silver prince, proclaimed as the one who brought the city out of the darkness and into a new era as the grand capital of the western world.

He felt the world at his fingertips each day. He felt he was in his prime. He felt powerful. He felt wealthy.

    He felt… alone.

Antony could hear his usual house guests chatter among themselves downstairs through the door. He had no privacy anymore, even in his own home. His mansion had become a common ground for his supposed friends and associates, each coming by every night to show their gratitude towards Orlinia’s noblest member. Only deep down, Antony knew each of them was only seeking his favor, and never his friendship.

When his home wasn’t filled with guests, there were workers. Gardeners tending to his lawn. Maids cleaning each room in his house. Technicians working on updating his home with the latest technology.

His home was never vacant, forcing him to retreat to his bedroom each night to seek solitude. All he wanted was a moment to himself, one which would last for more than a second—but they never lasted long.

Antony reached over and grabbed his old clarinet off the bed. He attached the reed to the end and twisted the joints into place. He wetted the reed, took a deep breath, and played softly to himself in the dimly lit bedroom, enjoying his moment.

The bedroom door opened, filling the room with the busy noise of Antony’s guests enjoying their evening under his roof of hospitality. Antony continued to play as the door shut, closing his eyes, knowing his moment was already gone.

  • (Suspenseful Narration)

    Narrator:

Antony stared at Duke as he stared back. They remained at a draw, locked on each other’s eyes waiting for the other to flinch. Their own rule of business was in play. The winds slowly began to pick up. The elevator gently began to sway in the strong breeze. Antony listened as the elevator began to creak and groan gently beneath his feet, keeping his eyes on Duke.

    SFX:

(Creak and groan of metal. Wind sounds.)

    Antony:

I already told you my answer.

    Narrator:

Antony took in a long breath.

    Antony:

You’ll never see this elevator climb any higher.

    Narrator:

A loud and aching scream erupted from below everyone’s feet. The platform started to fall along the cable. Antony watched as Tommy lowered his gun and turned around in a panic to grab hold of Antony’s car door. He looked over to see Duke stumble backwards and slam his back against the outer railing. Dawson released his grip on Robin to reach back and grab hold of the railing. Robin let out a frightened scream and latched onto Dawson’s leg.
