Rainbow Dash reads a book titled Mevs: An Explanation for Chapter 02 - An Explanation. The title of the book is not outright given in-story until Chapter 19 (not covered in this arc). Regardless, the unnamed book is referenced many times throughout this arc and later ones. Unlike most chapters, this role is the entirety of the chapter. It does not appear again. I want a voice that is not my own for this narration since I plan to narrate the rest of the story.

The book is a straight-forward guide that establishes the rules a master mev lives by and how that is managed by both mev packs and outsiders. Please speak at a deliberate pace and with care to the enunciation of the words, as if you are narrating a documentary.

"Nocturnivlair" is a made-up word invented for this story. To pronounce it, you take the "nocturn" part of "nocturnal," add in "iv" (like you would use in the word "give," not "five") and add the "lair" part of the word "flair" for its end. Take it slow, for both the desired pacing and that it would be new to any reader of the audiobook listening in anyway. I use some made up words in this story, but none of them are intended to be difficult to pronounce.

Age can be Ageless, YoungAdult, or MiddleAge.

There is an audition example from me on this role to give actors an idea of what I have in mind. My favorite line to say and hear from this whole thing is, "They do like being vampires after all," so have fun with that part.

  • Mevs are magic-eating vampires. There are two types: master and fledgling. However, sometimes master mevs are simply called 'mevs' because they are the ones other creatures need to concern themselves with far more than the fledglings and will be the main topic of this book.

  • Master mevs relish in their power and can even sense and feed off of fear. They are not inherently evil creatures, but their night-time behavior can certainly leave that impression. They do like being vampires after all. This seemingly evil nature is far more style than substance, except during a berserk. It includes, and is by no means limited to, bombastic laughter, devilish grins, hisses, snarls, and wide-eyed thrills. It even has a name: nocturnivlair, a combination of the words "nocturnal", "evil", and "flair" respectively.

  • Masters do not expect or need to be addressed by title every time you speak with them, however, it is generally a good practice. They are more accommodating to business when respected and will use respectful titles in response.

I'm glad you had fun. It was fun to listen to as well. Not quite what I had in mind for "documentary" style on the end of the first sence in the first line, but that was a creative and nice fit with how it is written. Do you think you could improve your audio quality? Your wavelengths are low. Please see these other auditions for comparison: Turtturt, ashleecraft, crazythespian, megthelovabledork. If possible, please do one retake with improved audio quality. Your delivery is fine as is. I had a very similar problem and had to practice with my recording volume and distance to the microphone to find something I at least deemed good enough, even if not perfect. I hope that helps.
