Book 3

Prince of Nightmares. He has a very scary persona, but deep down, Coal is actually a hopeless romantic. He starts off as one of the main antagonist, but he later becomes Marla’s main love interest. He comes from a family of sadomasochist, and though he’s typically calm and collected, he does occasionally lose his temper. Sarcasm tends to go over his head as he takes most things literally unless it's poetry. He actually really likes poetry and the arts.

Coals manner of speaking and acting is almost rather Third Reich, very strict and formal.

Just as a warning, there is are two intimate scenes between Coal and Marla, as consenting adults, but it is not talked about in detail. There are also scenes of breaching boundaries and implications of childhood abuse.

  • (narration) “Unlike my servants, tracking her down was rather easy. She had quite the reputation amongst the people of Utridesma and wasn’t exactly in hiding. From what I gathered, this girl would usually visit Argentum or Aurum city, but had the tendency to appear in other cities for short amount of times. She was opening up all of these different portals that seemed to have been closed for a quite while.”

    “Do not lie to me.”

“I am in love with you.”

  • “It is becoming apparent to me that you are completely clueless. How disappointing, I expected better. It’s either that, or you wear an innocent and naïve guise.”

“Queen Furvus would like to have a word with you. We thought it’d be best if your confidantes were involved as well. You might feel more…compliant.”

“I will make sure to keep you warm one way or another.”

  • (narration) “Now was the time for me to bite my traitorous tongue. Though I was disappointed by the seemingly witlessness of Marla, I still longed for her – shall we say – knowledge.“

“Stop your fuss, Goddess. Everything will be easier if you comply.”

“I am simply content gazing upon you and hearing your voice. Pain has been my life, I think I should not mind if you were to hurt me as well.”
