Byleth (In this series) is a servant to the main protagonist. Byleth is seen as a higher up in the ranking with Chrom's retinue, who is even more respected by those under Chrom's command. He's humble and cheeky, maybe even a little fatherly. 

I say for his voice/demeanor think of an butler that's cares deeply for you while not afraid to take jabs at you.
