Thibault is another character from the Second Chapter of the Text Adventure.

A lavish, theatrical and slightly playful facade hides a much more intimidating and severe core to this Lord. The minute he's underestimated due to his seemingly immaturity & carefree nature, you'll find his sharp tongue and wit ready to strike- if you're lucky.  For this character, we're looking for the theatrics, but very much grounded in underlying realism & severity. He believes he knows better than most, and can prove it at a moment's notice. He loves nothing more than engaging in a match of wits with someone who'd underestimate him; and you'll never truly know if his smiles and laughs are out of genuine enjoyment, or because he knows he's already won his own game.

For the sake of the story and players, I shan't reveal more here, but please *do DM me if you'd like more information on the character*, and I'll fill in any of the gaps ':D

Age is pretty open, as is the accent- though we're mostly looking for an Atlantic/ English/ US accent, and one that again may not necessarily be fully posh, but is well spoken. As always, we're open to interpretation! Acting is a priority here (hence the more detailed line descriptions!), so have fun with the character!

Thibault in this story is pronounced tih-bolt, & Thib is pronounced 'Tib' (where the 'i' in tih is like the 'i' in nib or bin)

  • The player has just lost a fight against Thibault. He lowers his sword, and twirls it as he walks back towards his seat. In a more playful, theatrical mood.Well now, that is a shame. Oh, the stories I could tell, the legends I could spout, the bullshit I could vomit... would ruin the floor though you see, ruin the surprise and all...Despite the odds being greatly against them, the player gets up, drawing their weapon once again. This impresses Thibault, who's now intrigued. His tone becomes more serious.Hmph, maybe you are fun. I'll play.Sounds used to & over the formalities of his position.

One could call me many things. As far as you should know, I am the leader of this place. That answer your question?

Much as I'd love you to call me 'My Lord', kiss my rings and suck my toes- or however all that faff happens- yoooou, my dear, may call me Thib. Short for Lord blah blah blah Thibault of blah blah nobody cares land.

  • Thib starts out fairly casually, more carefree, and becomes more dark and intimidating as time goes on.It was a beautiful ceremony. Couldn't have asked for a better day really. Perhaps the exquisite perfection was but a bad omen of events to come. The player asks where they are. Thib is frustrated and bemused as to the misplaced priorities of the character.Such idle questions. He asks where he is, as opposed to what purpose, what significance this place holds, why your companions are gone...

He realises the player's attachment to his new companion, letting out some laughter.

    Oh.... ohohoh, I see now...

He turns, walking around the player as they try to gather their thoughts. The playful slight sneer to Thib's voice only amplifies the doubts in the player's head.A new place, new feelings, questioned choices. New...friends, new regrets, even more feelings-He leans close to the player's ear. His voice becomes incredibly threatening, though calm. And I would wager you don't even know her name. The player clenches their fist. Now now, you'd watch your temper in front of me.He gestures widely to the roomAfter all I've revealed, all I've shown... You'd be heavily unwise to show me disrespect.Thib slaps his hand onto the player's shoulder, pushing them into a knelt position, and rapidly drawing a sword. The blade grazes their neck. His voice lightens slightly once again. And you've only just bowed. Tut tut.

  • Bursting into the room somewhat melodramatically. He realises the characters have been talking amongst themselves while he's been gone. This piques his curiosity, and though he's angry, he puts across a lighter, more playful mood.
He begins speaking as soon as he's pushed the doors open, blatantly interrupting their talking.

Talking about me, were we? Truly I’m flattered-

Feigning having only just noticed what they were saying, teasing them.

-or, hang on one moment. Were you two... having a little, well, you know?

Taking a much more serious, severe tone, pitying.

Tch tch tch my dear, did we forget about a little someone? I'm sure you'd be breaking their little heart...

Really rubbing in the fact their partner is missing. ...if they could only hear you!

Hey Max, thanks so much for the audition! The characterisation you've got going on feels like it could work for the character- I think in terms of critique, it'd be great to have more energy and differentiation in the pacing to really bring it to life! Otherwise a solid audition :)

Thanks for the response! I definitely have to agree with your critiques, more energy would have made it pop out a little bit more, alongside slightly pacing changes. I do appreciate you getting back to me, it truly means a lot! Even if you find someone better than me, which lets be honest, there are plenty of great auditions, I always love getting critiques.
