Megami Ibunroku Persona [Comic Dub]
10ofPents for Naoya Toudou
Much like other Persona protagonists, Naoya is a rather calm and collected man, who tends to keep to himself by being quiet. At times, he can be rather blunt, both in his sudden actions and slips, perhaps not having the greatest grasp on social cues, but having enough natural charisma to pull it off. Naoya is primarily an internal character, meaning he keeps his emotions locked up for the most part, and not letting others get much of a deep grasp of his character. This is because he's rather unsure of who he is himself,
Auditioning for Naoya requires auditioning for Kazuya Toudou as well, a twin brother of his who died at the age of 4, yet mysteriously comes back to haunt him throughout the story, grown up to be the same age as he is. Kazuya is brash, rude, petty, condescending, and pretty much the exact opposite of Naoya. He represents traits Naoya tries to suppress, forget or isn't proud of. He's incredibly tauntful, toying with Naoya with every chance he gets and trying to put him in his place, a very traditionally evil character.
Naoya is voiced by Grant Georgeand in the game itself, although his in-game portrayal is only limited to battle cries. I'd imagine he'd sound much like Xander Mobus' portrayal of the Persona 5 protagonist (https://youtu.be/pbTt0iz-Wvc?t=36), down to a similar mid-to-low voice range, if not a little higher.
I'll bet on Mark. No point to a one-sided bet.
Naoya is attempting to cheer up his friend after seemingly being given the cold shoulder by the group. He's playing it cool, for the sake of not offending anybody or derailing the conversation.
I'm sorry, I haven't come over in a while... My parents have also been worried.
Naoya is talking to his childhood friend Maki at the hospital. He's aware she's very lonely, and tries to reassure her that him not seeing her isn't her fault.
(Thinking to himself) Inside me... Is another self, huh...? Which of them is the real me, I wonder... Who knows. Does something like a "real me" even exist?
Naoya is looking at himself in the bathroom and takes a moment's quiet to think about the nature of his power, and what it means for himself. He's trying to approach it calmly, but it's clear an inner layer of terror about his own uncertainties is creeping in.
(As Kazuya) You won't give up for some reason... Nah, more like can't give up, yeah? You think you know all about yourself, but let's be real: You're just scared.
Kazuya watches over Naoya tremble and break his usual cool attitude over his presence, and casually gloats about reading him like an open book.
Hey Naoya, do you live for anything? Why are you even fighting? Would you not rather die? Why not? What do you get from life? Answer me. What do you get from living?
Kazuya starts getting more direct with Kazuya, playing on his survivor's guilt. He begins by posing it as a neutral question and starts getting angrier the more he goes on. While not completely furious, by the end, he's lost his patience and starts seriously demanding for an answer.
PERSONA!
Naoya awakens to his power and in a burst of power, summons his Persona by screaming from the top of his lungs! This is a trademark battle cry in the series, and is frequently done by all the characters in the games. (Example: https://youtu.be/IUpOp5hIyr8)
