Age: Mid 50s

Axel is a character first encountered in Issue 13 of Image Comics' The Walking Dead. He is an old biker imprisoned for armed robbery, who survived the outbreak trapped in the prison cafeteria, along with Dexter, Andrew, and Thomas. Unlike his fellow prisoners, Axel integrated with Rick's group and became a trusted member.

Despite his grizzly and rough appearance, Axel is a gentle and casual man. He is one of the few characters who seems to be unfazed by trauma, and retains his passive and casual attitude at all times. He is very ambivalent and relatively lazy, occasionally ditching his responsibilities while at the prison. He remains cool headed at all times. Axel was a trustworthy character, even for a prison inmate.

He COULD have a strong voice, COULD have a southern accent, and/or COULD have a deeper voice, but don't let these limit your vocal choices at all.

  • "I don't mean to interrupt--but you guys don't look like no rescue team to me. I mean you act like you ain't eaten in weeks. You follow me? We saw the reports on TV--and then all hell broke loose in here. Since then we've been holed up in here, with no word from the outside world. We don't know what's going on."

—Axel's first encounter with Rick's group.

  • "You think that's gonna keep, Andrew? Now that we're not alone in here that is. If so, you're setting yourself up for some heartbreak. Ol' Dexter'll be switching sides as soon as he finds him a woman willing and able--you follow me? You best be ready for that, or you get stuck holdin' your dick."

—Axel to Andrew about Andrew's relationship with Dexter.

  • "You think I've been around these fuckers long enough to get comfortable enough to go the sleep ten feet away from them? Not fucking likely. You follow me? I was a prisoner here... It's weird how different this place can become just by sleeping with the cell door open. I was never out there. I was never in danger, hunted, terrorized by those things. I was in here before they came to life and started killing people... and I was in here after. So yeah--it's a new world, but god help me... I like this world better."

    —Axel to Tyreese.
