Majorly Minor for Role 1
Working in debt collections for his esteemed father, (Role 1) does whatever they need to for their family and their name. Working in debt collections has made them akin to the brutal nature of the world. (Role 1) is a chaotic but smart character with some psychopathic tendencies. They are capable of delivering a very rude and antagonizing line while smiling the entire way. They can be found in deep dialogue with themselves about their situation. Whether it is small decor or the difference between life and death (Role 1) is likely thinking about it. As a result (Role 1) is very calculated and deliberate with their thoughts when they decide to share them, even if the thoughts themselves are a bit exaggerated. This is also exemplified in the way they deliver their lines. Not a syllable is out of place. However they can be a bit sporadic.
Line 1: "She’s a kind-hearted person, but that just has no place in my world." (as-a-matter-of-fact, then cuts to a cold second half)
Line 2: "I know you mean well, and I know you want to be a part of this business. But I am not going to allow that." (Acknowledging and affirming, with a lot of heart)
Line 3: "If there is one thing I know for certain, it's the black-and-white nature of our family's business. Either pay up when payment is due, or pay with your life, simple really." (Explaining while becoming more and more comical)
Thank you for auditioning Majorly Minor! We will be taking a look and critiquing your audition! Line 1: You nailed the "cut cold" for the second half of line one! It was definitely eerie as it was intended to be! However, the first half is a bit lacking. We were looking for the line to be delivered in a "this is a fact sort of way." A comment was made that it sounds like you are trying to convince someone that she is a kind-hearted person. We would say that, using more authority to sound as if you were forcefully telling them, would have been another good approach! Line 2: Really good read overall! It might not be "The Take" but you did a lot of things right! We wanted people to really emphasize the "I know..." to help convey their heartfelt feelings and understanding of what they were being sympathetic of. It sounds like you may have been a touch nervous or unsure of how to perform this line. You can tell that there is something you are holding back, and we hope that you will let that be free the next time you audition! Even if you are unsure of how to deliver a line, just find a feeling that you want to hit and go for it, but don't hold back! You can always over do it, but never under do it! Good read! Line 3: This is definitely a great read for the first half! You carry a very light and slight joking manor while also being very serious. However, the second half doesn't quite do it. You definitely have comical aspects in there that we asked for, but it doesn't come across as genuine (which is difficult to do) in order to pull off the comical approach it really does need to feel like it is coming directly from the character (again, very difficult especially with little direction) otherwise it can come across as fake, forced, and overall just take the viewer/listener out of the experience, and unfortunately that happened here. Keep working on it! That sort of stuff is not easy. Thank you for taking a shot at something so difficult! Overall: Lots of little things were done well, but there are some larger core elements missing. Don't hold back! Sometimes you just have to go for it, even if you are unsure! In the future try to learn as much as you can about a character and really understand what makes them tick. (Our events aren't particularly good for this since we do hold a lot of info back to let VA's try different things) Thank you for auditioning! There were a lot of great things to commend you on, but we also wanted to provide a little feedback and hope that it helps you in your acting journey! Thank you Majorly Minor!
