  • (Concerned, carefully giving advice to his superior)

Ahh. Well, she IS a high school girl, after all. She's in her puberty, so I'm sure it's difficult for you.

  • (quick burst response)

EH!? BUT *YOU* SAID IT YOURSELF, CHIEF!

  • (quick burst response - would like to hear the slight difference in intensity between the two sentences)

ARE YOU A LITTLE GIRL?! Your daughter complex is way too much!!

I sincerely hope that every voice actor who stops by to read this comment goes and listens to your first audition - to see the IMMENSE difference you brought to the second audition and how much better it was. I don’t mean to sound harsh, JanGamma, but as voice actors, and as actors, we only get ONE chance. For 10+ years, I’ve taught theatre to students of varying ages - and the one message I’ve made sure to solidify in their brains was that you only get ONE chance to make an impression on the casting director. EVEN THEN you’d have to deal with mountain-loads of rejections that come with the job. This is a very taxing element that unfortunately comes with the industry and you must LEARN TO LOVE the rejections and allow it to propel you forward to the next one. That’s a lesson that should be taught to everyone in this industry. —— In regards to your 2nd audition, it was much improved! You pretty much addressed all of my notes nicely - especially ACTUALLY READING the manga so that you can be 100% sure of what you’re saying and why you’re saying it. I can tell you now that I will not be casting you for this role due to your accent. This does not mean that you are a bad actor. It just means the accent does not fit the character. As I’ve said in my previous comment, your accent is not a crutch - it’s a weapon. It’s a niche. This is what is going to make you stand out above the crowd. Remember that.

In addition, I'd strongly encourage you to have a few samples recorded and ready in your native language - whatever it may be. If you can find a good, reputable VO coach in your area (or online), I'd even recommend having a professional demo produced in your native language. I'm born and raised in Korea and I live in Los Angeles. I can confidently say that 85% of my VO work is in Korean. The world is shrinking, my friend - industries are going global and "DIVERSITY" is the name of the game. Do everything that you can to be a part of it.

I didn't think I'd learn so much from one audition and director, so I humbly thank you so much for all of your advice! I knew my accent wasn't a good fit for this character, but even still I had to fix those errors I made, and I'm really glad I did. I accept the rejection head on knowing that I did the best I could! Once again kvoice, thank you for the humbling and impactful advice you've given me. Maybe, perhaps, one day, I'll be able to fit a role in one of your projects, because I would love to learn much more from you someday. Once again, thank you, kvoice. From the bottom of my heart <3
