I’d like you to look around this casting page for comments I’ve left on other people’s auditions regarding accented English as it applies to you. :) Remember: it’s a weapon, not a crutch! —— 2. Great audition regarding technicalities. The sound is clear, unmuddled, and your voice comes through nicely. —— 3. Whenever someone mentions “nature documentary” as a reference, they’re looking for Sir David Attenborough or Sigourney Weaver. Not to COPY them, but rather deliver the lines in the STYLE of those narrations while infusing it with your own personality. I would head to YouTube to listen to their narrations in order to get a sense of what I’m looking for (and for future auditions). ———— 4. Examining the context of a scene is crucial in delivering an audition that stands out. In your case, I’d like you to think about the following. The line “Thank you for your patronage” can be said in a number of different contexts. The one specific to this audition is the context where a bakery worker is yelling it out to a customer who has purchased something and is now exiting the shop. I posted the link to the manga so that actors could go and find out the specific context in which they would deliver the line, as that information will dictate how the line should be delivered. I’m glad you delivered varying versions of the line, but none of them fit the context. Sometimes that little piece of information can be the difference between booking the gig or not. In the future, if the script is available to you, study the context before you record. This shows the director that you 1. took the time to learn more about this character and 2. you made it specific and tailored your audition to this project.
