Kay’taria Ba’nil Tir’ail Fal’kir N’orem (a jab at comically long elf names)

Race: Elf

Ethnicity: Black

Dar'eth's mother, Kay'taria, is an amazingly skilled ranger. Having once lived the life of an adventurer, she eventually settled down for a while when she fell in love with Dar'eth's now deceased father, an elf who was so comically pale that their mingling genes produced Dar'eth's caucasian skin tone. From Kay'taria, Dar'eth inherited much of his mother's disposition, including his high standards for personal appearance and his work ethic. Having spent a few centuries as head of the ranger's guild, Kay'Taria has recently turned 500 and has looked back on her life and remembered her days of adventuring with far more fondness than those spent teaching. Thus, she is all too happy to visit her son in the hopes of joining him in his latest venture.

  • After Sondra asks how Kay knew she's a barbarian, right after Sondra accidentally frightened a pair of bandits away from their stolen wagon (to Sondra):

KAY: Well, you’re at least 6 foot 8, clad in leather and you have a studded club strapped to your back, and I was travelling through the woods when I heard the commotion.

  • When asked about Dar'eth's comically-pale father by Nokmodious (to Nokmodious):

KAY: I still remember the first time I saw him. He crested the hill on his horse, and the radiance of the sun enveloped him. You might say I was blinded by love... also, by the light reflecting off of his skin (imagine her having to shield her eyes to look at him), but it was mostly love!

  • When Dar'eth asks why she's really here (to Dar'eth):

KAY: (heavy sigh) I have no regrets in my life, Dar'eth. I loved your father. I love you and your sister, you mean the world to me, and I enjoyed my work as head of the ranger's guild. But I have not forgotten the thrill of a real battle, the feeling of putting an arrow right between the eyes of an eight foot tall ogre, seconds before it would have crushed me to death. Dispatching three charging orcs in as many seconds with three perfect shots through the heart... (she shakes her head and let's out a contented sigh) Adventure is in my blood, Dar'eth, and I know the dangers. I faced them for years. But to deny that I can live without it any longer is death itself. So, no, I'm not here to mother you, or look after you, we both know you don't need that anyway. I'm here to see new lands, make new friends, and impale anything and everything that moves to hurt those friends, because the years I spent doing that were the ones where I was truly me, and I want that back...

If you have the patience for it, I'd say my third attempt at the last line was the best ^-^
