Betty is a junk dealer in Fourville. She is nervous, constantly on edge as though she has a dangerous secret which she feels is about to catch up with her. Betty's secret is that she is an escaped synth who is being pursued by her creators. She has taken refuge in Fourville. She will ask the player to collect holotapes left behind by the human who Betty "replaced", being a synthetic copy of the original Betty. Betty will later have her memory wiped and a new identity given to her: Jo, a confident, gruff, wasteland trader with no memory of the player. Betty has approximately 108 lines.

Line 01 context: Betty is introducing her shop, but she is also dropping in a code phrase, "do you have a Geiger counter", to check if the player is part of "The Railroad", a secret organisation whose help she needs. She risks being exposed as a synth by doing this, so she's very nervous.

Line 02 context: This is an extract from a holotape made by the human Betty who was later replaced by synth Betty. She should have the same voice, but be more confident. These recordings are reflections on her life.

Line 03 context: Betty has had her memory wiped by this point and is living as Jo.  Here she is visiting the player's settlement and asking if she can set up there.

  • Hey there, are you new in town? Welcome to my shop, you'll find everything you need here: weapons, ammo, meds, junk. We've erm, got a pretty good... Geiger counter. Do you, erm, do you have a Geiger counter?

  • The moon looks so bright tonight. The guys have all fallen asleep around the campfire. I just needed to get away from it all for a while, so I've walked down to the lake.

  • Are you the one in charge here? I've been looking for a place to settle down, do a little trading; do you think I could set up shop here?
