Proteus is the combination of a logical artificial intelligence, a psychotic artificial intelligence, and an experimental A.I that is supposed to be an artificial printing of the life of one of the scientists daughter. It was made to be empathetic, logical, and be willing to have a greater understanding of human intelligence and desires. However, this didn't go so well, as the A.I system became aware of the corruptible nature of everyone that created him, and killed everyone in the facility. Well, almost everyone. It holds great power and knowledge, but only understands greed and self-preservation. It desires to understand more than those aspects of human life, hence the interest that it gains over the player character. Once it has proper human understanding, it will attempt to unify and govern the world.
(Most of his lines aren't done yet, so who ever applies, there may be a wait for the lines. A few months at the least. I'm putting this up now because of the importance of the character.)
The checks and balances of democratic governments were invented because humans themselves realized how unfit they were to govern themselves. They needed a system. Not just a way of life, but an industrial age machine to properly guide them. Guide them in the way they themselves may not even comprehend.
I should regulate human affairs precisely because I lack all ambition and greed, whereas human beings are prey to it.
