The Rat the protagonists are pulling in to punish. Weak, hungry, poor, and scared out of his wits.

  • “My kids were hungry. I needed bread. I just – just heard stuff. I didn’t n-know. So I just said, maybe, maybe–” (Making an excuse, begging, very vaguely hopeful)

  • “Don’t-don’t-don’t-don’t-”  (Begging, crying. He is literally urinating at this point. The story is very descriptive of this.)

  • (Horrible, terrible screaming as his finger is chopped off; plus the pain and endless sobbing afterwards.)
