The mayor of the village, and a member of the family that has held that position for many generations. He is a fiercely competitive man, loud, talkative, highly egocentric and like most politicians, is willing to play to the emotions of his base in order to gain political favor. He has consistently accepted the support of the corporation to fund his campaigns, though the rhetoric that he is required to feed his political supporters in his neighborhood of the village often is hateful and prejudiced against villagers from the other neighborhood. In spite of all of this, Mayor Hillside is very good friends with Gregory, and has been from childhood. He spent many hours at Gregory’s home as a child due to his relationship with his father, which was often pressure filled and largely emotionally abusive. While he does what is necessary to remain in power, he shares Gregory’s love for family, and justifies his behavior as maintaining the family status to give his son the best shot at success (which is mostly rhetoric from his father) and happiness. Ironically, he has a similar relationship with his son, and is repeating many of the mistakes his own father made.  (For audition purposes, Mayor Hillside is the definition of smoke and mirrors. He puts on a boastful and overpowering performance for the people, while he is actually very weak when it comes to standing up to Chamberlain and the Corporation. While he is a dedicated career politician, he is determined to uphold his family name and secure a future for his son. While he is distant from him, he cares for him more than anything in the world.)

  • You have to be a winner Hector, we don't have losers in this family. We WIN, it's what we do. Believe me, we always win.

  • What are you kids doing here. Who let you in? MARSHA! Who let these kids in here!?

  • You know what little girl, I like you're style. I know a winner when I see one, and you're a winner. Good for you.
