Ruby Swan
Ruby Swan is dream pop artist and producer based out of Calgary, AB. Her music is a whimsical, romantic soundtrack to soothe your neglected inner child. Using software synthesizers and her voice, Ruby creates sugary, celestial, vocally-driven electronic pop music to comfort and inspire those who are still in the process of blooming.
Ruby is a graduate of MRU’s theatre performance program, holds a Bachelor of Arts in English literature (MRU, 2013), and a Bachelor of Education (U of L, 2018). In addition to her work as a musical artist, Ruby designs sound and video for theatre projects including Reckless Daughter’s “The Way We Burn”, Theatre Encounter’s “Prairie Madness” and “Rode Hard and Hell Bent for Leather”, and the upcoming Full Circle production of “The Taming of the Shrew”. She is also a recurring cast member of Theatre Jupiter’s live D&D-based comedy improv show “Winging It!”.
An extension of CMI’s Artist Entrepreneur program serving Western and Northern-based artists, delivered in partnership with The National Music Centre at Studio Bell in Calgary. Artists spend five weeks working to expand their music industry knowledge, push their creative skills, and develop process-based approaches to ease the challenge of self-management. I was one of eleven musical artists selected for the 2025 program, which culminated in a showcase at the King Eddy. Video of my performance can be found on YouTube.
This course (and subsequent levels) was taught by esteemed voice coach Jane MacFarlane, Resident Voice Coach for Theatre Calgary (85+ productions). She has also worked for Vertigo Theatre as Voice and Dialect Consultant, The Shakespeare Company as Voice and Text Coach as well as most other companies in Calgary.
This course was taught by Joe-Norman Shaw, co-founder of Calgary actors' studio Company of Rogues. Training was rooted in the tradition espoused by the major studios in NYC and other American based institutions, from the teachings of Stanislavski and his interpretations through Sanford Meisner and Uta Hagen, with a focus on “authentic performance”.
In this online, 30-day course, Andrew Huang breaks down his music production process into clear, actionable steps. By following along with Andrew Huang’s process step-by-step, I learned to produce my own songs and bring my musical ideas to life using a range of techniques, including sampling, synthesis, sound design, and more.
Basic music skills and vocal performance taught by renowned bass-baritone Reid Spencer, who holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Opera Performance and Pedagogy from the University of British Columbia. The course culminated in a showcase, in which I performed "Out Tonight" from Rent.
I'm currently looking to build my portfolio as a VA, so curious & open to work in that area. I'm also a musical artist & sound designer and would love to continue honing my craft for commission.
