The Narrator is the one who narrates the whole book, whoever auditions must at least do a paragraph from each of these examples.
Clearsight was in the library.
She was always in the library. Her parents often joked that they should have let her egg hatch there instead of on the lunar hatching peak. Of course, if they had, she wouldn’t have been born under a full moon, so she wouldn’t have gotten the gift of prophecy, and then she wouldn’t have needed to spend so much time in the library in the first place. But whenever she pointed this out, her parents always shook their heads and sighed as if she just didn’t understand their spectacular sense of humor.
The librarian had given Clearsight a study room of her own, although she suspected that was because he thought she was insane and he wanted the option to lock her in if necessary.
Partially blank scrolls were unrolled all the way across the five tables around her, and she hurried from one to another, scratching quick notes and trailing ink splatters from her claws.
Would it change anything if she did pretend to be insane? She closed her eyes and tried to see if a future unfolded around that idea. Would she end up in the asylum? Would it save the tribe? Would that life be better than the other options?
It was too unlikely; no one would believe her even if she tried it. There was no path there.
No escape.
(these lines are from Chapter 4; Clearsight chapter)The weather was perfect: rain poured from a grumbling, fire-breathing sky. The rivers at the bottom of the canyons swelled and roared and ate the walls, sending all the dragons who lived down there scrambling for higher ground. The wind was so fierce that it seemed to have been sent by vengeful IceWings to rip every NightWing out of the sky. It was veering quickly from a storm into a baby hurricane.
Darkstalker had been waiting for a day like this. Surely even Clearsight wouldn’t expect him today.
But as he swooped down to the ledge in front of her house, there she was, sitting out in the rain, waiting for him. He hadn’t quite figured out all her expressions yet, but he thought this one might be her trying-not-to-laugh-at-him face.

The Kingdom of the Sea was in shock.
Queen Lagoon and her husband, Humpback, were dead, as was their daughter, Splash. Current was missing — one of the dozens who had escaped into the sea — but his brother, Scallop, and his father, Fathom’s uncle Eel, were not so lucky. One of the musicians had tried to fight Albatross when everyone fled; she was dead, too. Fathom would have to find out her name later.
Fathom’s parents were both dead. Manta had followed her father into the gardens, pleading for Fathom’s life, and he had killed her and Reef together. Not even Fathom’s magic could bring them back from death.
But as he’d stood with Indigo in the wreckage of the party, heartbroken, a dragon had crawled out from under one of the tipped-over couches.
It was Pearl, bleeding from a thousand cuts, but alive.

Darkstalker is one of the main protagonists, alongside Clearsight and Fathom
"Don't worry about it. She was cheating anyway, all he can think about it his crush on her sister, and he is thoroughly sick of them and wishes he knew anyone interesting. Have fun with your marbles, friends." Darkstalker being a smug lad after the NightWing group yelled at Whiteout for messing up their marbles game.
"Don't worry about the future. Just be here, with me, in this moment, when we are both happy as we've ever been in our whole lives so far." Darkstalker to Clearsight, who is mentioning the futures.
"Now. Take your talons, rip open your stomach, and show us what you're really like on the inside. Pour out your life on this stage." Darkstalker, commanding Arctic to disembowl himself.
Clearsight is one of the main protagonists, alongside Clearsight and Darkstalker.
"You can't wipe out an entire tribe [...] There are hundreds, maybe thousands of innocent IceWings. Think of all the little dragoners who aren't apart of this war. You're not a dragonet-killer, Darkstalker. [...] Not yo mention what it would do to your soul." Clearsight pleading with Darkstalker to not massacure the entire IceWing tribe (? It's been a while)
"Maybe it started the first time you lied to me. Or maybe it was losing Foeslayer and not being able to do anything about it. Maybe it was all the small moments where you felt threatened or powerless or out of control, and all the things you did to fight those things... Or maybe it's just part of you, something you hatched with. Maybe that's what you really got from your father, along with your magic. Maybe you were going to turn out this way, no matter how hard I tried to save you." Clearsight thinking about what would've lead her and Darkstalker to a good future
"Good-bye, my dearest love." Clearsight saying good-bye to Darkstalker
Fathom is one of the main protagonists, alongside Clearsight and Darkstalker.
"All right -- I'll be back soon," (pause) "I think" Fathom, to Indigo and Pearl, about visiting Albatross
"Do you think it's true that animus dragons lose their souls? Is that why he's doing this?" Fathom, at the SeaWing massacure

Whiteout is brothers with Darkstalker.
"I like her. Defiently azure on the inside. I like the way she knits." Whiteout talking about Clearsight
"Oh, I thought the marbles represented chaos theory and I was just another unpredictable whim of the universe. I did not intend to disrupt your faith in controllable outcomes." To a group of NightWings playing marbles, after she had walked straight through their game.
"In this turn of the hourglass, yes. But when I chrush you with my heart peace, then everything flips." While playing scales-and-squares after Darkstalker said he was winning at life.
Indigo is Fathom's childhood friend and future love interest. She is a rather mischievous in her childhood but is loyal and kind.
"He's clearly a Blob. Aren't you, Blob?" Indigo, after Fathom enchanted Blob for her
"Who, me? What did I say? Nothing, that's what. You're the one being noisy. I'm just sitting here. Perfectly still. A model dragonet, me." Indigo, after she messes with Fathom
"Those pillows will never question your authority again." Indigo, after Fathom punched some pillows out of anger, teasing
Pearl is a SeaWing princess. She becomes queen after the SeaWing Massacure and was described to be very intelligent, although she can be teasing and narrow-minded.
"You two are HOPELESS. Have you never seen a dragon wear pearls before? They can't hang this way or they'll make it impossible to swim, and besides, everyone knows a double wind around the neck is most flattering. You have to tighten the slack here and drape it like this..." Pearl, when she dresses Indigo up before The Royal SeaWing Massacure
"Queen Vigilance is, naturally, worried about whether her animus might go all homicidally crazy, too." Pear to Fathom, about Queen Vigilance's worries about Darkstalker
"That story is nonsense. Who would want to be an animus?" Pearl, to Indigo on weather the NightWings might try and steal Fathom
Albatross is the only other animus in the SeaWing tribe and Fathom's grandfather.
"Yes," (pause for narration) "What happy news." Albatross, with some suppressed rage although with a smiling exterior
"I enchanted it to grow carefully and precisely, like a tree." (pause for narration) "Anything faster and wilder could have damaged the ecosystem of the whole island." Albatross, to Fathom about The Summer Palace
The mother of Darkstalker and Whiteout and mates with Arctic
"The darkness is his prey. He chases back the dark, like a hero." Foeslayer defending Darkstalker's name
"Nothing is wrong with my dragonets." Foeslayer, protective, talking about her dragonets
"I didn't steal him. I fell in love with him. And he loved me, too. That's the truth, although no IceWing has ever listened long enough to hear it before. We didn't mean to ruin everything. Or start a terrible war, or make two tribes hate each other for all eternity. We just wanted to be together." Foeslayer to Winter Turning, admitting (even though this is in Winter Turning, it fits her character)
Arctic is the animus father of Darkstalker and Whiteout with Foeslayer being his wife. He is a supporting character and is very important to the plot.
"Are you sure it's time? Now? Tonight?" (Arctic during Darkstalker's hatching)
"I was taking my daughter to Queen Diamond. I was going to offer her talons in marriage to whomever Diamond chose, so she could hatch some heirs for the throne who might have animus blood. I was going to live in an ice palace again, sleeping at night like a normal dragon. I was going to find out if Foeslayer is still alive. I was going to offer the IceWings a detailed map of the Night Kingdom and a way to get inside and destroy you all, in exchange for her life." (Arctic when Darkstalker forcefully made him say what he was planning)
"I do wish I'd been a better father. If I were, I would have strangled you the moment you hatched." (Arctic's final words when Darkstalker made him say he wished he'd been a better father.)
Queen Lagoon is the queen of the SeaWings before The Royal SeaWing Massacre.
"I'd perfer sooner. If we find another animus in the tribe, that would make us twice as powerful, which would be quite useful given how the MudWings and RainWings have been acting lately. And the earlier we find her, the sooner we can start to train her, and the sooner I can start to use her. Besides, I think we would all prefer to discover our next animus in a less . . . dramatic fashion than you were discovered. Don't you?" To Albatross about testing animus dragons, condescending
"You are done complaining about this. The animus tests will continue. You will administer them whenever I tell you to. You will train any dragonet we find with powers like yours. And you will never question my decisions again." To Albatross

Snowflake is supposedly Arctic's future wife before Arctic ran away with Foeslayer.
“Your mother sent me to tell you the NightWing delegation has arrived.”
“Seems like kind of a waste of my time." (pause for narration) "Unless you’re having trouble coming up with an idea for yours."
Queen Diamond only appears in Arctic's Monolouges for the Prologue and is a strict mother
Don’t waste your gift! (pause) Blah blah blah! Careful consideration! Months of planning!
Animus dragons are so rare; appreciate your gift and respect the limits the tribe has set. Never use it for yourself. This power is extremely dangerous. The tribe’s rules are there to protect you. Only the IceWings have figured out how to use animus magic safely. (strictly)
Baby Darkstalker will only be featured in Chapter 2, when he is just a hatchling speaking only in his thoughts.
"Come out with me! Just try! You have to fight!" (Baby Darkstalker's thoughts, calling out to Whiteout's egg)
"She'll be alright," (Baby Darkstalker's thoughts when he views many possible futures about releasing Whiteout to share the three moons power)
"Sorry, little sister," (...) "This is my mother. Those are my full moons." (...) "This is my world now." (Baby Darkstalker after deciding to not let Whiteout out of her egg)
SeaWing Messanger appears in Chapter 3, and only has two lines in aquatic. They have no known gender
"He said to meet him at the sunset beach of the Island Palace." "Alone." ( formal)
The SeaWing tutor has no gender and only appears in Chapter 3 with one line in aquatic
"I agree with Pearl," (pause for narration) "Perhaps with you gone, Indigo will miraculously be able to focus on the geography of the Kingdom of the Sea."
The Father of Clearsight, mates with Swiftwings. He only appears in one chapter, Chapter Four. He has no known name
"Listen, [...] I know your power is stronger than any future-telller the NightWings have had in generations. I know it feels you can see everything ahead of you." Clearsight's Father talking about Clearsight's future abilities
"All the paths? [...] Every future that spirals out of every choice you and every other dragon make for the rest of your life? Can't you hear yourself? It's impossible, dearest. That way lies madness." Clearsight's Father echoing what Clearsight has said
Swiftwings is the mother to Clearsight, mates with Clearsight's Father, she only appears in one chapter, Chapter 7.
"Time to wake up! [...] Oh dear." Swiftwings when entering Clearsight's room.
"The real mess in this room is you, sweetheart. It's time to go and you know it. Come eat a nice rattlesnake for breakfast, and you'll feel all energized and ready for school." Swiftwings to Clearsight about going to school.
Eagle, an ambassador for Queen Carmine, he came to the Royal SeaWing Massacure with Princess Sunset. He only appears in Chapter 6
"Everything is so... raw." Sniffing at the raw seafood when Manta offer
"What is this?" Eagle, asking about an animus touched statue
"We do not tolerate dangerous differences in the Sky Kingdom," Eagle said firmly.
Princess Sunset came along with Eagle to the party where the SeaWing Massacre took place. She only appears in Chapter 6
"You have animus dragons, and you let them live?" Sunset to Queen Lagoon after learning that Lagoon has animus dragons
"I guess we could set it on fire. Then perhaps it would be palatable." Sunset, about the seafood served at the Island Palace.
"Doesn't your tribe know the legends? How using their magic eats away at their soul?" Scolding, worried.
Manta is the mother of Pearl and Fathom, and is best mom
"You look lovely, Indigo, (...) And you, as always are the picture of majestic" Complimenting Indigo and Pearl's appearances
"There's everything, (...) We should invite dragons from other tribes to our gatherings all the time--the chefs really went overboard" Manta saying with a laugh, talking about the variety of food at the party before the SeaWing Massacre
Professor Truthfinder is an adult female NightWing principal at the NightWing School shown in this book. She is a mindreader and only appears in Chapter 7 and 12 but it mentioned several times aside from when Darkstalker enchants the scroll "Ancient Wars of Pyrrhia," he makes it to sound just like Truthfinder, thus why it is also included.
"Well enough that we could put you with the four-year-olds instead, we were thinking." Truthfinder to Clearsight talking about her seer abilities.
"Very well, (...) Three-year-olds, advanced reading group, special seer training elective. I'm including a note that your maneuvers could use extra work in flight class, with an eye to possible remedial lessons. Any extracurriculars?" To Clearsight, going over her class schedule
"Ancient Wars Of Pyrrhia (...) Introduction. Every dragon knows the history of the Scorching and the tribal shifts and alignments that followed, but many may not realize that five hundred years later, the continent of Pyrrhia was in a state of constant warefare."
Allknowing is a large, looming adult female NightWing, she teaches at the NightWing school and is Queen Vigilance's top seer. Allknowing, over the course of the book, develops a grudge against Clearsight for having better seer abilities and taking her position of being the queen's top seer. Clearsight had said that she is scared by Alknowing or thought Alknowing sounded scary.
"From far to the north, a prince will arrive, seething with darkness and sparkling with ice, in his blood runs a gift for the whole NightWing tribe. But it comes with a terrible price."
"Hatched of ice and hatched of night. Cursed with moons all shining bright. Longs for power not his own. Comes to steal your very throne."
"Dragon of chaos, tangling the webs. Too many eyes, and too many threads."
Allknowing's Visions about Arctic, Darkstalker and Clearsight respectively. You must do at least two of the visions
"Any theories what this was about? (...) Clearsight, you seem tremendously amused by something." After Allknowing explained one of her visions to the class.
"That -- that -- (..) The nature of visions -- specific details are not -- that's not how it works." Allknowing to Queen Vigilance regarding the clarity of Clearsight's visions
Jewel-eyes is a young NightWing seer in Allknowing's advanced seer class, they are an unknown gender and age sharing a class with Morrowwatcher and Vision. They only appear in Chapter 7 with only a few lines.
"Can she really do that?" Jewel-eyes when realizing the power of Clearsight's power
Vision is a young NightWing seer in Allknowing's advanced seer class, they are an unknown gender and age sharing a class with Morrowwatcher and Jewel-eyes. They only appear in Chapter 7 with only a few lines.
"That's her? (...) Will we be able to do that?" Vision after hearing one of Allknowing's futures about Clearsight
"Yes, but we can't just look at whatever we want to, (...) We have to wait for visions to come to us. Here we mostly practice writing them down, making them sound like real prophecies, and interpreting them." Vision explaining to Clearsight about seer abilities.
"Also figuring out what's a dream and what's a vision, (..) Like, we're pretty sure I'm not actually going to lose all my teeth all of a sudden one day. Or forget to study for my final exams." Vision replying to Clearsight and explaining what they do in the seer classes.
Morrowwatcher is a young NightWing seer in Allknowing's advanced seer class, they are an unknown gender and age sharing a class with Vision and Jewel-eyes. They only appear in Chapter 7 with only a few lines.
"Your first day? (...) At the school? How did you find us so fast?" Morrowwatcher
"Why haven't you taught us that?" Morrowwatcher at Allknowing after Clearsight shows off her abilities
The NightWing Teacher only appears in one chapter(chapter 6) and seems very passionate about her job.
"These are our pet scavengers (...) Two females. They're quite fierce, so don't stick your talons in the cage, just to be safe. We rotate whose turn it is to feed them, and we're doing a yearlong study of their behavior. They're not just adorable; they're also quite fascinating." Showing off the class scavengers to Clearsight, described to be beaming
"Oh, Listener, (...) Wouldn't you take care of our new student for the rest of the day?"
Listener is a female NightWing dragonet with mindreading powers and is friends with Clearsight. She is portrayed as a cheerful dragonet who is trying to find her soulmate (and fails horribly).
"I already know you're crazy, (...) When you walked in, you looked around and immediately categorized every student into 'safe to be friends with' and 'doomed if I talk to them.' What is that all about? And just checking -- I'm not in the doomed camp, am I?" Listener talking about Clearsight's thoughts with a small laugh
"Quit freaking me out! (…) Besides, (…) we're not criminals, we're heroes! We're liberating the oppressed! Righting all wrongs! Saving the day!" Listener about freeing the Scavengers in their school
"Clearsight, (…) Listen, I ― I know I told you I don't want to know the future. But if ― if I ever have to evacuate my family ― I mean, if it's a question of saving their lives … if something really, really bad is about to happen … then I guess I do want you to tell me." Listener talking about.. well.. the paragraph explains it
"Yes! (…) He said, 'Excuse me, is this the way to the strawberry garden?' and I said, 'It certainly is!' and he said, 'Thank you' and I said, 'Are you going to the jubilee festival tonight?' and he said, 'Urgh, I suppose I have to,' and I said, 'Cool, see you there!' so, obviously, we are destined to be together forever. Don't you dare tell me otherwise!" Listener talking to Clearsight about her interaction with Thoughtful
NightWing Student 1 has no name but he has been described as the "largest" out of the three friends, being NightWing 2 and 3 and he only appears in Chapter 9.
"Hey! (...) Watch where you're walking!" NightWing Student 1 shouting at Whiteout who just ruined their marble game
"They ruined our game!" NightWing Student 1 protesting as Darkstalker
"That's all right (...) Sorry we yelled at you." NightWing Student 1 gruffly apologizing to Whiteout
NightWing Student 2 only appears in Chapter 9, nothing is known about her character.
"Can't you use those weird eyes of yours?" NightWing Student 2 barking at Whiteout, who just ruined their game
"We're sorry," NightWing Student 2 apologizing for calling Whiteout out
NightWing Student 3 only appears in Chapter 9, nothing is known about his character.
"Or are IceWings blind as well as arrogant and vicious?" NightWing Student 3 barking at Whiteout who just ruined their game by walking absently though
"Yeah." NightWing Student 3 agreeing to say sorry to Whiteout
Current is a young SeaWing and a survivor of the SeaWing massacre, cousin to Fathom. Before the massacre he was described by Fathom to be very friendly, talkative and confident but after the fact, he seems very frightened, jumpy and anxious, especially around Fathom. He only appears in Chapter 10 and Chapter 14
"He was still killing when I fled into the ocean. But I don't know why. He was our prince. We loved him. He was loyal to the queen. He made such beautiful magic for her. Why would he do this?" Current talking to Darkstalker and Clearsight about the massacre
"I d-d-don't -- I don't. (...) I d-don't want to see him, (...) P-please don't make me." Current whimpering to Pearl when confronted by Fathom
SeaWing Guard only has one line in Chapter 14, she seems to very cautious and distrusting to Fathom.
"All right (...) Go on in. But we're watching you, animus."
All Four Advisors are Advisors to Queen Pearl when she becomes queen with no specific genders or ages.
"She can save everyone from him!" A SeaWing Advisor talking about Indigo to save everyone from Darkstalker
"She should be wherever there is danger from an animus dragon! She can stop him before he threatens our kingdom!" Another SeaWing Advisor agreeing with the previous one on their points
"That's true! (...) Send the Animus Slayer!" Another SeaWing Advisor agreeing to send Indigo
"Yeah! She can kill them both if she has to!" The Final SeaWing Advisor agreeing that Indigo can kill Darkstalker and Fathom if necessary
This dragon has no gender or age, and only says one line in Chapter 15
"Prince Arctic, Foeslayer and their son, Darkstalker," The Dragon Annoucer when Arctic, Foeslayer and Darkstalker come into the ongoing party
Queen Vigilance is a adult female NightWing who is intimidating and one of the shrewdest queens in the era of where Legends: Darkstalker takes place. Vigilance is a minor character but is very important to the plot, when Arctic told her that Darkstalker was an animus, she brought Fathom to the Night Kingdom to help Darkstalker be more careful with his powers. Vigilance also hired Clearsight as her head seer to win the war against to the IceWings. When Allknowing told Vigilance about Darkstalker's plan to kill her and take the throne, she sent Quickdeath to have him assassinated. Vigilance only voices in Chappter 15, 19, 22 and 27, despite that she is important to the plot.
"Ah (...) Seers. Always so illuminating. May you speak." Vigilance sighing while talking to Clearsight.
"Yes, (...) Very poetic. But I don't recall anything about an underwater attack focused on North Beach in the next month." Queen Vigilance to Allknowing
"Call a war council meeting. (...) I want everything you know about this attack written out by morning." First to a NightWing general then Clearsight after learning of an IceWing attack
IceWing Scout 1 Is a female IceWing, she is basically a minor character and only has two lines.
"What are you doing?" IceWing Scout 1 snarling to IceWing Scout 2
"Get back in the water (...) now." snapping again to IceWing Scout 2
IceWing Scout 2 is male IceWing, he is basically a minor character and only has one line.
"Having a snack." IceWing Scout 2 growling back to IceWing Scout 1
Wharf is a male SeaWing soldier who accompanied Fathom during his visit to the Night Kingdom with Indigo and Lionfish. Like Lionfish, he was noted to be quite lazy and sleepy, often neglecting his duties as Fathom's bodyguard. Fathom described him as "thick-headed" and only has speaking lines in Chapter 23.
"We're uh... we're going out in that?" Wharf questioning Fathom when he sees pouring rain outside.
"Running? (...) Swimming? Out for a walk? Gone to give her a letter to the messangers" Wharf guessing where Indigo had dissapeared to.
Lionfish is a male SeaWing solider who accompanied Fathom to the Night Kingdom with Wharf and Indigo. Like Wharf, he is described to be lazy and sleepy and often neglected duties as Fathom's bodyguard.
"Sorry" Lionfish appoligizing for killing Quickdeath
"We should get you back to the castle (...) In case there is a second attack." Lionfish talking to Fathom after the Quickdeath attack
"I'm not supposed to leave Fathom alone, (...) Indigo's orders." Lionfish to Darkstalker when he tries to guide Fathom away
Thoughtful is a Male young NightWing dragonet. He is in a relationship with Whiteout and seems to understand her. He has been described as kind and worried, having an artistic talent especially with glasswork.
"You noticed? (...) No one … you really saw the pieces of scroll inside the waves? (...) I can't believe you saw them! (...) Nobody's ever understood one of my pieces before." Thoughtful talking about something about art peices with Whiteout
"Yeah. (...) I just, uh -- I just wondered if anyone wanted to try a scroll tower challenge with me." Thoughtful talking to the general group
"I do, (...) By reputation, anyway. His name is Quickdeath and he was --- well, you can guess." Thoughtful talking about Quickdeath
NightWing Guard is a guard for Queen Vigilance, they have no specified gender or age.
"Your other seer is here, your Majesty." NightWing guard saying to Queen Vigilance
Clearpool is a female SeaWing dragonet princess only shown in the epilouge. She was one of the three dragonets of Fathom and Indigo and the sister to Ripple and Courie. Clearpool is very loud, whiny, curious with an extremely short tempter.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH, (…) I can't GET IT! I'LL NEVER GET IT! ALL THE FISHES ARE STUPID!" When Clearpool couldn't catch a fish, screaming to Indigo
"THIS BROTHER IS A KELP-FACE!" Clearpool in a temper, to her brothers.
Cowrie is a male SeaWing dragonet prince only shown in the epilouge. He was one of the three dragonets of Fathom and Indigo and the brother to Ripple and Clearpool.
"Roar! Get your big galumphing talons out of here!" Cowrie to Clearpool
"Argh! Yuck! Ripple! You're squashing me! DAAAAD! MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!" Cowrie when he is squished and is calling out to Indigo and Fathom
"Mommy, do you know any stories about bad guys?" Cowrie to Indigo
Ripple is a male SeaWing dragonet prince only shown in the epilouge. He was one of the three dragonets of Fathom and Indigo and the brother to Clearpool and Cowrie.
"I want to hear about you and Mommy. About stuff you did when you were little like us." Ripple to Indigo and Fathom
