What Lurks Within: Pilot
Project Overview
What Lurks Within is a series of audio stories, set in an apocalyptic world where in an instant, around 90% of the population undergoes horrific and irreversible transformations into horrifying monsters, each as uniquely grotesque and terrifying as the next. Inspiration is drawn from shows like Netflix's "Sweet Home", but with a far darker tone.
The approach to this series will be to utilize the anthology approach, telling stories of many different survivors and the horrors they encounter in their struggle to survive.

Leading role. Early 20s male. College student. Brian, due to his rough upbringing rife with abuse from his parents, siblings and peers, has an extremely quick temper and a no-nonsense approach when dealing with others. This role will have many lines, varying from casual small talk to heated conversations and yelling.

“It’s all a load of crap, man. The fact that we have to jump through all these hurdles just to be able to barely scrape by out there. Hard to sometimes feel like the deck’s not totally stacked against you.”
“H-hey, Manny… Something wrong, man? Why… What’re you-?”
“We CANNOT stay here. Only reason they haven’t busted in here already and found you is that either they don’t know you’re up here, or they don’t care.”
Supporting role. Early 20s male. College student. Manny is Brian’s closest college friend, taking many of the same classes as him and shares similar interests. Manny is Hispanic American, and holds a normal conversation with Brian before a global apocalypse claims his life.

“How is it that of all the professors I’ve had this year, the one I end up taking HISTORY with ends up giving out the most work?”
“Oh, trust me, I was just about to give up on trying and give it another go next month. Not kidding, I felt like I’d develop some sort of joint problem in my fingers if I had to keep going.”
“You think I don’t know that? Of course it was luck, man. Like, 'one in a hundred thousands' kind of luck.”
Supporting role. Early 20s male. College student. Alex is Brian’s roommate and second closest college friend, despite having no classes in common with him. Alex shares Brian’s interest in TV shows as well as movies, often spending time together on the weekends when their schedules allow. Relatively quiet and often not speaking unless spoken to, Alex is not the strongest physically or mentally, preferring to be told what to do in the event of a crisis. This role will have slightly more lines than Manny's.

“I swear, I thought you were a goner. I got one look of things outside and thought I was the only one left!”
“N-not much, I didn’t want to risk more than one look, to be honest. Everything was just out of control, last thing I wanted was for something to notice me.”
“And you’re SURE we’d be safer there than here? Someone blocked the hallway, we should be fine if we stay put, right?”
A college student that was in close proximity Brian and Manny were when the apocalypse began. They are assume dead judging by the screams of panic and agony Brian hears as he attempts to escape. This role will involve a few casual lines of conversion as well as panicked yelling and screaming.

“You going to the game this weekend? Tickets are free for all students this time, I hear.”
“Honestly, I’m convinced they give us all this work to beat anything remotely creative out of us. I feel myself becoming more and more robotic with each passing day.”
“NO! GET BACK! GET - - AUUUUUUUUGH!”
A college student who, similar to Brian and Manny, were spending their Friday afternoon finishing assignments in the library with a classmate to complete them as early as possible. She, similar to Brian, made a hasty escape once she realized the severity of the situation around her. Her fate is left unknown. Similar to Extra #1, she will have numerous casual conversation lines as well as panicked shouting.

“Why were they even charging students for tickets to begin with? They having that big of an issue with funding or something?”
“That’s why you need to strictly manage your time. They make it very difficult to do, but not impossible.”
“Uhh… what’s wrong with you? Why are you…? Uhh… NOPE! Nope, I’m out of here!”
A female college student of unknown age whose death Brian witnesses firsthand. Nothing but screams of panic, fear and agony for this role.

The narrator of the short story. Expect lots and lots and lots of lines.

"Brian hastily climbed the stairs two at a time, sharply turned to his left, and opened the door to the same study room that he and Manny always used for their assignments. Its familiarity and preferable location had led to it becoming a routine of theirs."
"What would normally have been a brisk five minute walk turned into an ordeal of its own, taking Brian almost an hour. Ducking into cover and scanning his surroundings at the slightest noise resulted in him moving about fifty feet every ten minutes."
"Down the hall, Brian could hear inhuman-like screeching, followed by the sound of wood cracking and splintering. The sound of a door being forced open with superhuman strength, no doubt. He had to move, and he had to move now."
