Meiko (stylized as MEIKO) is a humanoid persona for Yamaha Corporation's Vocaloid singing synthesizer application. Her voice is sampled by Meiko Haigō. She has performed at live concerts onstage as an animated projection along with Crypton Future Media's other Vocaloids (like Hatsune Miku). She was the third Vocaloid ever released and the first to sing in Japanese.

The name of the character comes directly from her voice provider's name, Haigō Meiko. Meiko's codename was "Hanako";[1] it likely came from Yamada Hanako (山田花子), a placeholder name for female characters, and the Japanese equivalent to "Jane Smith". "Megumi" was also a name considered during her development.[2]

Kaito (stylized as KAITO) is a Vocaloid developed by Yamaha Corporation. He has performed at live concerts onstage as an animated projection along with Crypton Future Media's other Vocaloids (like Hatsune Miku). His production code name was "Taro".[1] His voice is sampled by Naoto Fūga. He was the fourth ever released Vocaloid and the second in Japanese.

The product's name was invited to be chosen by the public, and "Kaito" was selected from among the applicants, which was Vocaloid producer Shu-tP's offered idea.[2][3] One of the reasons why his name "Kaito" was selected was because it would be easy for non-Japanese speakers to pronounce, and it looked fitting with the name "Meiko" when they were put next to one another.[4]

Hatsune Miku (Japanese: 初音ミク), is the name of a Vocaloid software voicebank developed by Crypton Future Media, and its official moe anthropomorphism, a 16-year-old girl with long, turquoise twintails. She uses Yamaha Corporation's Vocaloid 2, Vocaloid 3 and Vocaloid 4 singing synthesizing technologies. She also uses Crypton Future Media's Piapro Studio, a singing synthesizer VSTi Plugin. She was the second Vocaloid sold using the Vocaloid 2 engine, and the first Japanese Vocaloid to use the Japanese version of the Vocaloid 2 engine. Her voice is modeled from Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita. Hatsune Miku's personification has been marketed as a virtual idol, and has performed at concerts onstage as an animated projection (rear cast projection on a specially coated glass screen).[1]

The name of the character comes from merging the Japanese words for first (初 hatsu), sound (音 ne) and future (ミク miku[n 1]), thus meaning "the first sound of the future",[2] referring to her position as the first of Crypton's "Character Vocal Series". "Miku" can also be read as mi (3) and ku (9) in Japanese, and she is often represented with the number "39".

Kagamine Rin & Len (鏡音リン・レン Kagamine Rin & Len), are humanoid personas voiced by a singing synthesizer application developed by Crypton Future Media, headquartered in Sapporo, Japan. They use Yamaha Corporation's Vocaloid 2 and Vocaloid 4singing synthesizing technology. Their voices are sampled by Asami Shimoda. They have performed at live concerts onstage as animated projections.

Their names are derived from the concept of 'left' and 'right', like on earphones. Their surnames came from the Japanese words for "mirror" (鏡 kagami) and "sound" (音 ne).
