Project Overview
WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?
This, my friends, is the beginning of a very fun ride! It's probably no secret that we love Turning Red! I mean, half of our profile description is just gushing about the movie XD So I thought for our very first project, why not have it be a fan dub of the movie? I mean come on! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right? So that means doing this is the biggest love letter we can give to the movie!
OOO WHERE CAN I WATCH IT?
Umm I honestly don't know yet. I'm hoping I can upload it to Youtube but I also know how copyright is on there sooo if push comes to shove and I can't upload it anywhere super easy, I'll put it in a Google Drive or Mega or something so ya'll can watch it.
AH OKAY, SO WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Okay, I am SO glad you asked! Even if it's me asking the question-whatever. Anyways, for the voice cast, we're looking for VAs with good enough mics (you know, little-to-no background noise and such) and of course, UNBRIDLED LOVE AND APPRECIATION FOR THIS AMAZING MOVIE! Sorry, sorry, got a little carried away there lol
This is also a DEI project so POC actors are HEAVILY encouraged to audition. Races of the characters will be included in the descriptions.

Mei is a middle-school force of nature. Exuberant, ambitious, and over-achieving, Chinese-Canadian Meilin excels at school and at home. Her posse of loyal besties always has her back; they also share a borderline out-of-control obsession with boy band 4*Town. At home, Mei is a dutiful and driven keeper of the ancestral family temple, working contentedly alongside her mother, Ming. But when the teen mysteriously begins to "poof" into a giant, uber-emotional red panda at the most inconvenient times, a gulf opens up between Mei and her mom, forcing a reckoning between Mei's two selves: the spirited teenager and the obedient daughter.

I'm Meilin Lee. And ever since I turned 13, I've been doin' my own thing, makin' my own moves; 24/7/365. I wear what I want, say what I want, and I will not hesitate to do a spontaneous cartwheel if I feel so moved!
[Angry] I'm not your little Mei-Mei anymore! I lied, Mom! It was my idea to hustle the panda. My idea to go to Tyler's party! It was all ME! I like boys! I like loud music! I like gyrating! I'M 13, DEAL WITH IT!
[Calm, or trying to be to keep the panda from coming out] I am NOT a- (Breathes deeply) Tyler is an insecure jerkwad. Words were exchanged. Slightly uncomfortable secrets were revealed. End of story… (Trails off seeing Carter Murphy-Mayhew)
Miriam is loyal, easygoing, and a total goof who can make her besties laugh when they need it most. A bit of a tomboy, Miriam regularly rocks a flannel shirt and slouchy cap, and she shares her friends' obsession with boy band 4*Town. Mei's mom, however, is not a fan of Miriam. Ming sees Miriam as a threat to her relationship with her daughter, despite the girl's stellar support for Mei.

[Seeing Mei start talking like a rebel] Wow! Who are you? I love it!
Priya is meticulous yet artsy, passionate yet stoic. She's a quiet wild card with a deadpan sense of humor and a calm and collected approach to school, friendship, and just about anything except 4*Town. Even Priya can't contain her love of 4*Town.

Uh… This says Toledo.
Abby is a stick of dynamite, a fierce but petite warrior who won't hesitate to throw herself at anyone who threatens her best friends. The opposite of shy, Abby isn't afraid to be heard. She does have a soft spot for Red Panda Mei, however... all that extreme fluff is just too hard not to embrace.
Race: Korean-Canadian
NOTE: You're gonna need to either know or at least be willing to learn Korean. Thankfully Abby doesn't speak in Korean a lot in the movie but there are a few times where she does speak it, one of which you can see we included as an audition line to give you some practice. Duolingo or Google Translate will definitely be your friends with this if you get stuck.

[Seeing Mei is a Panda, Excited] You're so fluffy! You're so fluffy!
[Finding out the concert is in Toledo on the 18th] WHAT?! 뭐야? 톨레도? 미친 짓이야! 여긴 어디야? WHAT THE HECK IS TOLEDO?!
Ming is a proud wife, devoted mother, and hardworking keeper of the Lee Family Temple in Toronto's Chinatown. Elegantly turned out and poised at all times, she takes her professional duties seriously, but she's even more dedicated to keeping an eye on her precious daughter, Meilin. Ming is fierce, stubborn, funny, controlling and as Mei would put it a lot, but the deep love she has for her family is always apparent. Ming can be intense, but all of the crazy stuff she does is motivated by her love for her daughter.

On the next red moon, you'll undergo a ritual that will seal your red panda spirit into one of these. And then, you'll be cured for good. Just like me. But any strong emotion will release the panda. And the more you release it, the more difficult the ritual will be. There is a darkness to the panda, Mei-Mei. You only have one chance to banish it and you cannot fail. Otherwise, you will never be free.
[Worried] Mei-Mei, what's going on, honey? Are you sick? Is it a fever? A stomach ache? Chills? Constipation? Wait. Is it… that? Did the… Did the red peony bloom?
[Frustrated] What was that? Am I the only one who sees the danger here? There's no way she could keep her panda in. And $200?! For what?! Who do they think they are? Céline Dion? Hmph. Unbelievable. I saw that look. Where does she get that from? Treating her own mother like that.
Jin is the quiet, steady presence in the Lee family works hard and aspires to a life of simple pleasures: cooking a good meal for his family, sneaking the occasional donut, and gardening. He's a necessary balance to his strong-willed wife Ming, and a doting and loving father to his daughter Mei. But when an ancient phenomenon throws his family into chaos, Jin's quiet life is upended.

Tyler is that kid we all know from middle school: annoying, aggressive and always popping up when least wanted. But though he likes to play the snot-nosed jerk, inside, Tyler is just a kid trying to make it through middle school intact.

4*Town, the hottest, coolest boy band of all time, is behind songs like “Nobody Like U”—the single from their latest album that’s climbing all the charts. Their concerts are truly epic, featuring high-flying theatrics, lights, pyrotechnics and—best of all—the five dreamy members of 4*Town.
- Aaron T. - Acrobatic, fast-talking, and a natural comedian, 'T' is always there to break the tension when life on the road gets tense.
- Aaron Z. - Stoic and a little shy, 'Z' is the athlete of 4★Town and, as the strongest dancer, coordinates a lot with the band's moves.
- Robaire - Originally from Toronto, Robaire is the leader of 4★Town for a reason. He can sing, he can dance, and he will eventually have a successful solo career, but until then, he's content to jam on the tour bus.
- Tae Young - The youngest member of 4★Town, a lover of animals, Tae Young is dedicated to wildlife rehabilitation and has personally fostered injured doves between tours.
- Jesse - The oldest member of 4★Town, Jesse was in art school pursuing a degree in ceramics before the band took off. When fame starts getting to his head, throwing clay on his potter's wheel and spending time with his two kids brings him back down to earth.
Races: Robaire is black and I think Aaron Z is too, Tae Young looks to be Asian I think and the others look to just be white.

With her daughter Ming in charge of the family temple, Grandma now enjoys her retirement, playing mahjong and nitpicking her family from afar. She expects her granddaughter, Mei, to be the next temple keeper and ensure the family’s legacy for years to come. And she expects Ming to be a mother just like she was: withholding, over-protective, light on praise and heavy on expectation.
