To The Moon Dub
Project Overview
Hey, guys! I'm planning on doing a dub of the brilliant masterpiece by Kan Gao, To The Moon, and I need your help providing the voices! The role of Dr. Neil Watts has already been casted, but everyone else is up for grabs! I'm looking forward to hearing your auditions. =)
For an explainer video, I will be leaving the initial trailer for the game here for your viewing pleasure. If you haven't heard of To The Moon, I highly suggest you watch this first so that you have an idea of what's going on. Once again, I look forward to hearing your auditions! Johhny is the main character of the game, and is on his death bed when the game starts. Johnny's dying wish is too go to the moon, so Neil and Eva travel through his memories to allow him to fulfill his dying wish.
The actor who portrays this role will have to be able to sound older, or younger, depending on what point in time he is in his memories. He should sound just like your average man.
"As long as you can take me to the moon, I will cooperate in any way possible."
"Look, River...I wrote a song. It's for you."
"...Do you feel any different? Now that we got the rings on, I mean."
Teenage Johnny's voice should be that of your average teenager, a little bit on the tenory side of the spectrum.
"We weren't watching it together...I didn't even know where you were!"
"It's not that...Look, maybe this wasn't such a good idea."
"But I don't want to go to the moon."
Child Johnny should just sound like your average 6-year-old boy.
"But I don't want this stupid toy!"
"I'm done, though...Can I go play?"
"Hello! I'm Johnny...What's your name?"
Teenage River should have a mysterious, calm, innocent tone to her voice.
"...Do you not want to watch the movie together anymore?"
"There are exactly sixteen second-order Fresnel lens lighthouses in the country left."
"...He made sail on August 3rd of 1492 from the Spanish city of Palos de la Frontera..."
Tommy is Lily's son, and Sarah's brother. He's a bit of a troublemaker.
Just try to sound like your average little boy
"We want...one trillion dollars!
"Turn on the light before you trip over somethin'."
"Ya! She'll call the cops on you!"
Johnny's mother is a single mom who seems to be a little cuckoo in her old age. She calls Johnny "Joey" as a nickname.
Her tone needs to be motherly, but forceful.
"I'm so proud of you, Joey"
"I'd better get going, the store closes early today!"
"Now, now, John, don't make a scene."
The Doctor helps make sure that Johnny's condition is stable as Neil and Eva are traversing through Johnny's memories.
I don't really have a preference on how this person should sound, so go nuts!
"Wait, come back here for a moment. I have something for you."
"That'll keep you updated on Johnny's status."
"His condition has been de-stabilized...Intake levels must be reconfigured."
If you want to participate, but don't want any of the main parts, don't worry! There are plenty of extra parts to go around. Like the doctor, I don't really have a preference, so you do as you please with this!
"What're you guys doing here? It's starting! Let's go get a good spot!"
"Leonardo da Vinci trained by drawing eggs. Barrels are like very big eggs. Therefore, you will all be very big Da Vinci's."
"Ah, yes, fortunes of wonder are ahead of you!"
Sarah is Lily's daughter, and Tommy's sister. She's a bit of a troublemaker.
Just try to sound like your average little girl.
"I think we just need a little convincing, that's all!"
"I know! There's this funny room in the basement."
"Stop iiit! Or we'll tell ma you animal abuse!"
River is Johnny's wife, who is deceased at the start of the game. She is a prominent figure throughout Johnny's memories. She has Asperger's Syndrome.
Her voice should be calm, almost monotonous, as if she isn't all there. She needs to be able to sound older, or younger, depending on what point in time is taking place in Johnny's memories.
"For every day that you live there, I want you to watch over her. Visit her. Speak to her. Comfort her. I don't want her to be alone anymore."
"Would you...like to name her 'Anya?'"
"What's the matter? Let's go!"
Child River should just sound like your average 6-year-old girl.
"...You're at my spot."
"What's wrong with having a name everyone has?"
"I never told anyone, but...I've always thought they were lighthouses."
Eva is one of the playable characters of the game. She is more serious than Neil, the other playable character, and is kinder and more sensitive. She will not stop at anything to complete her task, even if it means taking huge actions and risks to make sure that her job is done right. One of her quirks is that she will often use the names of vegetables in the place of a curse word.
She needs a stern, but also relatively calm tone to her voice.
"Cucumbers...we don't have time for this fluff."
"We need to get to your childhood, but it is too distant to do so in one memory hop. Thus, we will need to traverse through your memories with gradual backwards leaps."
"Neil, did you notice something odd in Johnny's room earlier?"
Nicholas is Johnny's best friend, and has been since at least high school. He is always willing to give Johnny a helping hand.
Try giving giving him a sort of rougher tone. His voice should be slightly deeper than adult Johnny's.
"Look at us, John. We aren't exactly at the ripe age of piano moving."
"Wait, but why do you seem so normal, Izzy?"
"How come you never told me about it?"
Teenage Nicholas should sound like your typical "male best friend" character. His voice should be ever so slightly deeper than teen Johnny's.
"Oh, sheesh, what could possibly happen?"
"Just straighten your spine and quit being a little wuss!"
"So, did she throw an encyclopedia in your face? Huh? Did she?"
Isabelle is a friend of Nicholas's, and also has Asperger's Syndrome, although to a much lesser extent than River.
Her voice should be lower than River's. As for tone quality, I don't really have a preference.
"If she chooses not to save herself for the sake of this place, then so be it."
"Be right back, I'm gonna get some fresh air."
"Just because she struggles to express it, it doesn't mean she doesn't feel anything."
Lily is Johnny's caretaker, and the mother of Sarah and Tommy. She has no idea what she's going to do with her life when Johnny passes.
A calm, motherly tone would suit her just fine.
"Thanks for coming on such short notice."
"It's not exactly a nine-to-five job, so Johnny lets us live here."
"I...I think I'm missing some vital contextual info on this whole thing."
