Project Overview
General Project Info
rituals_of_the_spirit.avi will be the second episode in my series of digital horror shorts: spirit.avi.
Set in a world where the paranormal is a well established part of reality. The series centers around the staff of paranormal research organization called Njupit Ven Foundation, as they come to understand they didn't really know the power or intentions of the strange entities they have been working alongside of. These entities are mainly represented by Specters, ghosts that only exist as energy and thought.

Plot-line
This second episode is centered around a Specter-summoning ritual gone wrong, happening a couple of days after a mysterious series of disappearances among the Foundation's staff. This is a very important moment, as this is where we'll establish the dissonance between the humans' understanding of specters and their reality. The idea will be calling attention to the dread of slowly noticing that the truth is not as it initially seemed, that the characters are in a kind of danger they hadn't stopped to notice.
Since the story will mostly be told through audio, your expertise as voice actors will be essential for all of this to work.
General Voice acting Direction
You won't need a professional quality mic, since low-fidelity is part of the project's aesthetic. You will, however, need to be able to record lines that display emotion while staying grounded in reality. The idea is emulating real conversations, so style wise, aim for realism and subtlety. I'll let you know when we need more extreme delivery. Also this is a horror short, so make sure you can scream.

I do think I have to be upfront about this. Although the series is mostly in english, you will also be working with a fictional in-universe language called Njupit Ven Teriga. You won't be expected to learn it, of course, but some lines will be spoken in it, so you will probably be dealing with this additional challenge. I'll do what I can to make the process as easy as possible, though.
Submission Direction
Auditions must be submitted as a single file (MP3 or WAV) per character, featuring at least 1 read of each of the sample lines. No need to slate the beginning of your submission.
Don't edit your audition, it should be submitted as recorded.
Name your file following this format: "CharacterName_YourName"

Young and Scared - Peter Choi (Lead Role)
Peter is 22 years old and a Linguist in the paranormal Njupit Ven Foundation. Knowledgeable, although rather relaxed, he used to be quite outgoing and friendly, but a recent series of disappearances among the Foundation's staff have got him on edge. His once promising future now feels like it could end at any second.
I'm looking for relatively high-pitched but raspy voice. The voice of a "protagonist" noticing this story was never actually his own.

Tired & Reserved - Anna Veredas (Lead Role)
38 years-old and a Lead Researcher in the Njupit Ven Foundation. She takes her work very seriously, and trusts the Foundation's cause. The recent series of disappearances among the Foundation's staff haven't shaken her like most of her peers. In fact, their worry is rather annoying, as they've become less efficient. She persist though, trying to serve as what she sees as the voice of reason.
I see her tone as generally snappy and to the point, but still formal. She sees herself as above it all, or at least it's what she tries to be.

A resilient worker - Marcus J. Morgan (Lead Role)
34 years-old and an Assistant Researcher in the Njupit Ven Foundation. Marcus is honestly just trying his best. Calm, friendly, but perceptive, he fits well inside his role of ensuring research and rituals run smoothly. He deals with crisis by focusing on his work and it shows.
His voice should be mature but soft-spoken. There should almost always be an underlying serenity to his tone. Almost.

The professor - Dr. Wilson (Supporting Role)
57 years-old and a Doctor in Spectral Communication. I'll be honest, this guys role is just to deliver some quick exposition, then dip. Still important, though.
We need a clear, well-spoken voice. Noticibly old, but not on death's doorstep.

Specters due to their immaterial essence, are incapable of learning natural human languages. Their complexities are deeply tied to humans' material existence, making it impossible for the Nevgon to understand.
