Project Overview

Many people love the Shield Hero series, as do we. While the series has both a manga and anime adaptation, some people have wanted an audiobook of the light novels.

This project is here to adapt the first book of Shield Hero as an audiodrama. With the first chapter complete, and a positive response, we’re looking to fill the shoes of the remaining cast.

This will be a long running project. We will be looking for commitment, and will look in the future to provide more payment as production continues.

A few characters are already casted due to Chapter 1 being finished and from earlier castings when the project was in preproduction last year.

  • Casting Update - June 22nd 6pm CST End Time

    Less than 24 hours remain before the Casting Call officially closes with over 1100 auditions! June 22nd, 6pm CST is the listed time for closure on CCC. We will be making decisions on who to cast shortly after the casting call ends and probably well into June 23rd. The bigger characters (such as Raphtalia, Ren, Itsuki~) will be the first casted! Those we cast, you will be receiving a message from us in your inbox on the site that will include a Discord link and a custom command just for you to get completely setup in the server! We’re super excited and looking forward to working with many of you here for Book 1 of the Shield Hero Audiodrama Project! Extras will be the final VAs casted.   • Final Month - Deadline and Casting

    We’ve run into June, the final month before casting. We’ve got over 500 auditions and had a blast listening to every one of you! It’s going to be a difficult time casting with all the talent here but we’re looking forward to more auditions and even better, the deadline! Over the next week, we’ll be whittling the shortlists down. Casting will begin June 24th and probably happen over the next day or two after it as we sort through the shortlists if we still have a good number shortlisted. Cheers!

  • Card Updates

    We just quickly updated the casting cards. No lines were changed, but we added little prompts for what each line has for emotion and/or tone. We also modified descriptions, making the significantly shorter.

The type of voice we're looking for in Raphtalia is one that is soft, kind, and understanding. You can follow the voice that the anime gave if you'd like, but we highly encourage your own unique voice on her following the opening guideline.

Her first line is when she's younger, a 10 year old child, whereas the last two are when she's fully grown to roughly that of an 18 year old. We are also open to dual casting her younger and older self.

  • (child-frightened-no self confidence) The slave trader had brought a young man to my cage. The young man was negotiating with the slave trader. The young man met my gaze for a minute. His eyes were sharp enough to kill. He looked angry. His eyes wandered to the other two slaves. His eyes were scary. He was filled with hate, more hate than the man that whipped me.  It looked like he hated the whole world. If he bought me, I’d probably die in a day or two… Were they talking about me? I couldn’t tell. But in the end, the young man bought me. The spell to register as a slave always hurt. I hated it. But I was sure this would be my last owner. Because I… I didn’t have much time left.

  • (upset - angry - lecturing) Y…You fool! Of course I don’t forgive your cowardice, but when did I ever ask for your help?! Mr. Naofumi never made me do anything I didn’t want to do. The spell only made me fight when I was too afraid to have done it otherwise! Mr. Naofumi hasn’t let a monster hurt me, not even once! When I got tired, he always let me rest! Would you reach out to a sick, filthy slave?

  • (comforting) Mr. Naofumi, please, please, calm down. Let me… Listen to me. Let me earn your trust. Whatever happens, I believe you. I believe you, Mr. Naofumi. I know that you wouldn’t do what they accuse you of. You wouldn’t force yourself on anyone. You aren’t that kind of person. The whole world might accuse you, might blame you, but I won’t. I’ll say it again and again: you didn’t do it. Please believe me. I believe, I KNOW, that you never committed any crime. You gave me medicine, saved my life, and taught me what I needed to survive. You are the great Shield Hero, and I am your sword. No matter how rough the path, I will follow you.

Ren is a person who acts cool and tries very hard to portray a loner's image. He's very straight to the point and nigh emotionless.

The voice we're looking for is one of a teenager, but deeper toned than your average 16 year old male.

  • (introductory) My name is Amaki Ren. I am 16 years old, and a high school student.

  • (can't believe your ears) You mean to say that you all haven’t figured it out yet? Didn’t you realize it the moment you arrived here? Haven’t you noticed any weird icons hanging out in your peripheral vision?

    (making a statement) We can work all that out later on. Right now, we should focus on improving ourselves, just like the king has asked us to do.

  • (calling Motoyasu out - serious) We saw it all from up there. Your friend attacked Naofumi from behind with wind magic. The king had fallen silent. Can’t you see that? He has no attack power. You have to give him that much. You’re in the wrong for challenging him to a duel in the first place.

  • (introductory) Ok, my turn. I’m Kawasumi Itsuki. I’m 17, and still in high school. (nervous) Level 1... that makes me nervous.

  • (shocked - can't believe Naofumi would do such a thing - serious) Me too. Even at that though, I never thought you’d stoop so low. You must think you’re somehow entitled to whatever you want! You have no sense of responsibility or justice. You ignore the task you’ve been entrusted with, only to attack a poor girl… Just terrible…

  • (calling Motoyasu out - serious) Motoyasu, you lose the duel. You broke the rules. Naofumi knew he couldn’t win, so he just did all that he could to hurt you. I don’t think we can begrudge him that.

Malty first appears as a friendly, encouraging, and flirty person, but under that initial mask, she is actually an arrogant, amoral, sinister, deceitful, and a compulsive liar. She is shown to be highly adept at lying and manipulating people, and is not above insulting and making them as miserable as possible. She is deceptive enough to produce crocodile tears in order to fool people into taking her side.

For a voice, you're gonna want to have some good range to hit her highs and lows.

  • (friendly) Sir, if it please you, I could serve with the Shield Hero. Um, so it’s nice to meet you, Sir Shield Hero. My name is Myne Suphia.

  • (optimistic - friendly - teaching) There’s one now, Hero. We call these ‘Orange Balloons,’ and they are rather easy to defeat. All the Heroes have their own ways of fighting.

  • (cry out in fear and hide behind Motoyasu) *sniffle tears* (frightened, afraid) The Shield Hero drank too much, and he came bursting into my room. Then he… He held me down, and… He held me down and said, (teary flirt) ‘The night is still young, Baby.’ Then he started to rip my clothes off… I screamed as loud as I could and ran from the room. That’s when I found Mr. Motoyasu, and he saved me.

  • (angered - wrathful - yelling - commanding) Silence, Scoundrel! Any act of sexual aggression committed against the people of my kingdom, whether by barbarian or Hero, will be punished—immediately—by death! I had an inkling the first time I saw you.   • (angered - frustrated) I would very much like to send you home, but the waves of destruction will not allow it. New Heroes can only be summoned once the original four have all died. This is what the researchers say.

  • Weapon Leveling Up and Unlocking Abilities:

    Weapon leveling up means that your currently equipped Legendary Weapon will change form. If you hold the weapon in hand, and picture what you wish it to become, the weapon will change into the desired form. The weapon ability refers to abilities that can be unlocked simply by using the equipped weapon. Once unlocked the equip bonus will last forever.

  • Equip Bonus:

    Equip bonuses are special abilities that can be used while your weapon is equipped. So if a weapon has unlocked the Air Strike Bash ability, that ability can be used as long as that weapon is equipped. If a weapon has an Equip bonus of “attack up 3,” the user’s attack stat will increase by 3 while the weapon is equipped.

She only has one NSFW scene, it's a background scene that's heard when Motoyasu is taking a midnight stroll.
