The Painted Man - Farm Attack - Animatic

The Painted Man - Farm Attack - Animatic

Project Overview

I am an aspiring storyboard artist. I am in the process of storyboarding a number of scenes from a novel - The Painted Man (aka The Warded Man), by Peter V Brett.

I want to add voice acting and get a sound producer involved to make a fully fleshed out professional looking animatic.

This scene starts with some heavy dialogue between Arlen (11yo M), and his father Jeph (adult M). It then follows into another scene in which demons attack their farm and his mother Silvy (adult F) is wounded.

This family is from a small town, and they are farmers. Just a little bit USA hillbilly.

Mid-30s. Small town farmer's wife. Accent should be a little bit American hillbilly. She is stronger than her husband and risks her life to help someone else, resulting in her getting wounded by a demon.

Small role, will consist of some screaming and grunting (in pain).

  • Oh no, Bonnie! I left her in the pen!

  • Jeph, help!

  • *cry of pain*

11 years old. Small town farmer's son. Accent should be a little bit American hillbilly. Very strong, determined character

From the wiki:
http://thedemoncycle.wikia.com/wiki/Arlen_Bales

"Arlen grew up in Tibbet's Brook, unknowing of anything outside the hamlet and the farm owned by his father, Jeph Bales. He never had many friends and was bullied by the other children (especially by Cobie Fisher). His mother, Silvy Bales, frequently shouted at him for fighting. One day he was tired of being bullied and brought a stick, determined to fight back. It didn't get him any new friends, but stopped them from bullying him any more."

  • Ragen explained it to me. Uncle Cholie was dead already, he just didnt know it right away. Sometimes people live through a coreling attack, but die anyway.

***Flat tone, very matter of fact***

  • The corelings are already winning. You keep saying the town gets smaller each year. Bullies keep coming when you dont fight back.

    ***Getting worked up***

  • Dont you feel it? Dont you want to fight sometimes?

    ***Angry, frustrated***

Mid-30s. Small town farmer. Accent should be a little bit American hillbilly. Preaches caution and reason, but this is actually just to cover his cowardice.

From the wiki:
http://thedemoncycle.wikia.com/wiki/Jeph_Bales

"Jeph Bales is Arlen's father, he lives in Tibbet's Brook. He owns a small farm, with chickens, pigs, two cows and a horse. He also has a small amount of metal tools. Arlen was his first son, after his wife Silvy Bales died he married Ilain Bales. Silvy died as a result of Jeph not having the courage to defend her as she got attacked by demons. Only Arlen saved her by attacking the demons, afterwards Jeph did not have the courage to take her all the way to the herb gatherer of Sunny Pasture, this results in Silvy dying on the road. Arlen runs away because he couldn't take the cowardice of his father."

  • Arlen, what you... What you saw on the road...

***hesitant, doesn't know how to start difficult conversation***

  • I dont want to hear that kind of talk. You cant fight demons, Arlen. No one can. Theres nothing to be gained by getting yourself killed. Theres other ways to protect yourself and your family, Arlen. Wisdom. Prudence. Humility. Its not brave to fight a battle you cant win.

  • Of course I do, Arlen, but not for no reason. When it matters, when it really matters, all men are willing to fight. If it was you out there with the corelings, or your mam, I swear I would fight like mad before I let them get near you. Do you understand the difference?
