The Music Man ANIMATED | VA’s, Artists and Musical Composers Needed!!! |

Project Overview

The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall.

Greetings everybody! I've recently fallen in love with Meredith Wilson's musical, The Music Man. I'm looking for the talent to help me put together an animation. You don't need to be a professional to audition, but I do ask that you follow some rules that will be listed below. Be aware that this list can be changed at any time, and I will be enforcing them as I see fit. Failure to follow these rules can result in being banned from the production.

RULES

1. ALWAYS be respectful of your fellow auditioners. Do not harass them over their casted role, audition, etc. Negative vibes are not allowed in this production. Personal drama should be handled one-on-one.

2. Please do not harass me, as the director. I will not have any clue who will have a definite role until the deadline is hit. If you are not casted for the role you desired, don't take it personally.

3. PLEASE have a decent mic, or minimal background noise.

4. If casted for a major role, please have a schedule that is easy to work with. I will always be understanding when life gets in the way, but I am also relying on you as a critical part of the show.

5. Please have a Discord account! I have a server set up for everybody to join - posted below - and most of our work will be done on there.

If anybody has any questions, comments, or concerns, you can always reach out to me here or on Discord! That's all for now - thank you, and good luck~.

(Baritone, A Flat to High F) A smooth talking con man and traveling salesman with plenty of charm, who tries Iowa after saturating Illinois; convinces townspeople they need a boys’ band to keep them out of trouble. He falls for Marian, the librarian;  sings “Trouble”, “Seventy-six Trombones,” “The Sadder-But-Wiser Girl,” “Marian the Librarian,” “Shipoopi,”(Dance only) “Till There Was You,” & “Goodnight My Someone” reprise.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, either you are closing your eyes to a situation you do not wish to acknowledge, or you are not aware of the caliber of disaster indicated by the presence of a pool table in your community!

  • Oh, my dear little librarian. You pile up enough tomorrows, and you'll find you've collected nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays. I don't know about you, but I'd like to make today worth remembering.

  • Sing 30 - 45 seconds of 'The Sadder but Wiser Girl' or 'Marian the Librarian'

(Soprano, Low G to High A) Daughter to Mrs. Paroo and sister to Winthrop, she is the stuffy, conceited librarian and piano teacher in town. She is very learned and defends the “questionable” books that are in the library. She was close to her deceased father’s friend, Mr. Madison, and the town believes that she had an affair with him. After all, he left the library to the town, but all the books to her! There was no affair, and he was like an uncle to her. At first, after meeting Harold Hill, she dislikes him but then gets to know him better, and we see a transformation in her while she falls in love. She comes to realize that he really does want to make a difference, and changes things in the town. They end up together. Sings: “Piano Lesson,” “Goodnight My Someone,” “My White Knight,” “Shipoopi,”(Dance only) “Will I Ever Tell You,” “Till There Was You,” & “Seventy-six Trombones” reprise.

  • Even should that happen to be true, does that give you the right to follow me around wherever I go? Another thing, Mister Hill, I'm not as easily mesmerized or hoodwinked as some people in this town and I think it only fair to warn you that I have a shelf full of reference books in there which may very well give me some interesting information about you.

  • Professor Harold Hill. Gary Conservatory of Music, class of '05. Harold, there wasn't any Gary Conservatory of Music in '05. Because the town wasn't even built until '06. I tore this page out of an Indiana Journal. I was going to use it against you, but now I give to you with my love.

  • Sing 30 - 45 seconds of 'Goodnight My Someone' or her part in 'Piano Lesson'

  • If you don't mind my saying so, it wouldn't have hurt you to to find out what the gentleman wanted.

  • You'll have to excuse Winthrop, professor. We can't get him to say three words a day even to us. So if you get into play in a band it will be a miracle. Where are you from, professor?

  • All right, then meet me after supper. At the Footridge. I only want to show you my invention.
