Eruin News Audio Drama, Episode 1

Eruin News Audio Drama, Episode 1

Project Overview

Introduction

Hello everyone, this is the casting call for the audio drama version of Eruin News. The launch of the original stories will begin with an audio version of the first installment, A New Life.

I am casting for the narrator and the main voices of the stories featured in the first installment.

About the Project

Eruin News is a series of short stories exploring the history of a world in an up-and-coming novel series, Blood of the Elm. It follows the journey of Tadhg Newsbringer as he explores the recently discovered continent, Eruin, and documents his investigations into the corrupt powers that rule the budding city of Stenvik.

The audio drama is specifically for the first short story that will be posted in this series. It is free to access and created for entertainment purposes only.

What to Expect

All voice actors must give their Discord so I may contact you. If you do not include your Discord user in your audition, I may private message you and ask for it. You may be asked to read additional lines. If accepted, Discord is required in order to collaborate with your fellow voice actors, and so I may keep in contact with you throughout the process.

What I Ask of You
  • Have fun! This project is entirely done for fun, so don't take it too seriously!

  • Professional equipment is not required by any means, I simply ask for minimal background noise (fans, air conditioners, etc.) and a clear quality of recording. I want to hear your voice, not static!

  • You are not required to say each line multiple times, but it is encouraged to use your best tapes! Three takes is usually a good amount. Try to use different inflections and tones. Auditions for the Narrator are still encouraged to record multiple takes, despite the lines being longer. Two takes for each line should be sufficient for this role, but you are welcome to record more.

  • Lines can be submitted to this site or sent to me through Discord using .wav or .mp4 files. I will not accept any other files outside of these types. Please private message me for my Discord user and indicate the parts you wish to audition for.

  • Lastly, since this is the first part of a larger series, I may do more audio dramas of the short stories. If you are accepted to play a character once, you may be asked to do so again in the future.

  • While the project is unpaid currently, and done simply for fun, if it comes back in the future, I would love to be able to offer payment for you lovely voice actors and your time.

Role assigned to: Arron Cleary

The narrator should have an engaging voice but not be overly emotional. They will narrate the story in between dialogue lines from other characters. The voice should be clear and easy to understand.

Specifically, I am looking for a voice that avoids monotony and remains engaging throughout the story. Think the narrator from Baldur's Gate 3.

The name Tadhg, as referenced in the following lines, is pronounced tie-g. The name spoken here: How to Pronounce Tadhg

  • Tadhg, his name. Not part of the crew, but a traveller coming in from the Old World. Articles in the paper back home had promised riches like no other here in Eruin. In big, bold letters, they’d describe the free land, the high pay, and the need for workers of all kinds. And Tadhg desperately needed work.

  • The Captain hummed his response but said nothing else on the matter. Tadhg clearly wasn’t going to listen to his words of warning. Stubborn lad was determined to carve his own way. Maybe even make a name for himself.

  • He hadn’t thought of giving himself a last name before. He wasn’t a mine worker, not a sailor, nor a captain or mine owner. He was a writer. But Tadhg Writer didn’t exactly have a good ring to it.

Role assigned to: James Bilinsky

Tadhg (tie-g) Newsbringer is the main character of the Lost Era stories. In this first installment, he has just arrived in the new world of Eruin, and is seeking to start his newspaper. He is naturally curious and a risk-taker, jumping headfirst into the unknown. For a dwarf, he is considered young and his ambition often gets him in trouble.

Tadhg's voice is an adult male's, with a lighter pitch to reflect his more optimistic side. However, do not stray into a childish tone. While the setting is loosely based on Celtic regions, an accent is not required. However, any accent used (Irish or Scottish) should be light and sound authentic and natural.

  • (wonder) “I can't believe I'm actually here. We’re making history, Captain. The first settlers on Eruin. The first city. First mines, first--”

  • (flustered, angered) "I'm not a scrawl!"

  • (lying) “Oh, uh, of course. It’ll be with my belongings at the dock. I shall retrieve them and return within the hour.”

Role assigned to: Kate Wyke

Oda is a determined yet desperate woman who lost her husband, Arran and is trying to seek answers for his dissaperance. While many believe her husband dead, she refuses to give up hope. She is in a bleak situatiom, jobless, on the verge of loosing her home and becoming destitute, she'll do whatever it takes to find Arran. She has resorted to renting out her half-finished home in hopes of earning enough money to survive while looking for Arran.

Oda's voice should take on the desperation she feels. Having to live as a woman alone, she has been hardened. Range should include solumn moments of quiet words to outbursts of emotions, both desperate and determined.

Accent is not required but prefered. Light Scottish or Irish accent, with focus on clarity and authenticity.

  • “Well then, Tadhg Noname, I’ll take that five silver up front.”

Captain Bosk

Role assigned to: Cal Michael

Bosk is the Captain of the ship, The Challenger. While stern when issueing commands, he cares deeply for his ship, crew, and any passangers who board.

Bosk's voice is rough around the edges from years of yelling commands over sea-weathered ships. He should have a growling tone, with a heavy Irish or Scottish accent. The accent should sound authentic and natural. Lean into the rough captain archetype.

While an accent is strongly prefered, it is not required. I am looking, first and foremost, for a voice to fit his nature.

  • “They won’t let ya work the mines. Not with that gimp leg ‘o yers. Can’t be hired for any sorts of labor. Be mighty hard for a fine lad like ya.”

First Keep Guard

Role assigned to: Thomas Murray

A minor character. The guard blocks the way to the First Keep. He is no-nonsense and stern, looking down upon Tadhg for being a writer.

If future episodes of the series get made, this role may turn into various side characters, utilized when needed. Vocal range (different styles, accents, pitches, and tones) is preferred in this case.

  • “Halt. What business have you?”

  • “Land outside the city is for mine workers only. He is not seeing scrawls.”

  • “You will have to find accommodations within the city. Land is not for those like you.”
