Project Overview

Danganronpa, Zero Escape, and Among Us together in a single project! Not a fangame, but a combination of elements to bring an investigative Visual Novel to life!


First of all: this will be a project divided into two parts: the Demo (unpaid), then a later Crowdfunding (which will be anticipated by social media and a Discord Server open to the community, as well as the Dev Team of course) to fund the game, and from there the game will be funded, paying everyone. So, it will be a long-term project, since the idea is to divide the game into chapters (currently 4 are planned).

With that said, let's move to the actual game! What elements does this video game combine?

  • Zero Escape (escape rooms)

  • Danganronpa (murders, trial, even if the trial will be completely different, but the basic idea will be to vote for the person to throw out)

  • Among Us (before every murder, each character will be assigned a role, and they will have to stick to that role and act from before the murder until the voting)

These will also be the phases that will happen in every chapter: escape room (oh I forgot, you are not safe even here, someone could die... maybe!), assigned role, murder, investigation, trial, voting.

Roles? What does it mean?

Currently there are no confirmed roles, but imagine for example a saboteur, who will not be the culprit, but his role will be exactly to "make the accusations fall on him", at that point there are two people to vote for, not just one! Or the oracle, who has the power to discover someone else's role and use it in his own way. The mute, who will be forced to not be able to speak, and so will have to use other ways, but at the same time must be careful not to look like a suspicious person rather than a victim. And many others, there are a thousand ideas that could be used!

Synopsis:

Two characters, an ex-investigator and a clown, wake up in what looks like a laboratory, a room they have never seen before. They can figure it out: they have just been kidnapped. After the first moments of confusion and fear, a voice echoes from the room, the one who will turn out to be the Mastermind of all this! Only vague explanations, the two will have to escape from that room by beating some puzzles, otherwise they will stay trapped! Forced, they manage to solve the puzzles, but before leaving, the Mastermind warns them to check their watch: a role has been hidden from them, and it must stay hidden. The two characters move forward, until they meet 14 other people, all in pairs and forced to play this "game" and escape from a room. From here, the game begins: someone will have to die, and the culprit will have to be found. But the culprit is not necessarily the bad guy: his role could clear him, maybe the bad guy is someone else, someone who has a role that gives him an advantage if he is not voted out.

The team:

It's me, who takes care of the programming, the writing, and everything behind it, and later also the social part! (I don't exclude finding someone to help me, but until now, there are no problems!), a character artist, an environment artist, and a music composer. We have our Discord server to communicate!

Who are we looking for?

3 Voice Actors, exactly the protagonist, a clown, the character he will wake up with, and the mastermind, who currently (or forever?) is just a voice! But the full game will have 16 characters + the Mastermind, so post Crowdfunding I will look for many other voices!

  • UPDATE 2: Future Characters

    Hello everyone, time for a new update!

    In less than 10 days we’ve surpassed 60 submissions. I honestly didn't expect such an amazing response, so thank you from the bottom of my heart! The rest of the game's development is proceeding well, but today I want to focus on your roles.

    I've already listened to the first 56 auditions, tracking everything on a spreadsheet, and I can only reconfirm what I said last week: you are incredibly talented! Most of you have voices that are a truly perfect fit for the characters. For others, while your voice might not be the exact match for these specific roles, I noticed it could be perfect for other characters in the game! Because of this, when the time comes to cast the rest of the roster, I might reach out directly to some of you who auditioned now to offer you a role.


    Speaking of the rest of the roster: as mentioned, the full cast will feature many more characters. They are currently in an early drafting stage, but I can tell you there will be characters of all ages to bring variety in personalities and relationships. The casting call for these remaining roles will happen at a later stage, post-crowdfunding (early next year hopefully!). It will be a long wait, but we need the campaign to succeed so we have the funds to pay you (I know some people might wish to volunteer, which is definitely possible if you want to, but we will discuss that together!).

    Finally, in the games that inspired this project, character voices were incredibly important to my experience, and I want to give them that same importance here. Just to clarify on our plans: the idea is to have Partial Voice Acting if the crowdfunding reaches its minimum goal, and Full Voice Acting if it makes much more!).

    However, I want every character to have a story, and for this story to be told somehow. This could happen in various ways: flashbacks, or an extra mode containing the characters' backgrounds (always in VN style, and Full Voice). We will see in due time!

  • Thanks you all for the first 48 hours!

    Hi everyone!

    First of all, thank you so much for sending in your auditions! I wasn't expecting 32 submissions in the first 48 hours, so I am really happy! I've already listened to many of the recordings, and I have to say that hearing your interpretations brings a huge smile to my face. I'm loving them, so a huge congratulations (HEY MASTERMIND!) to all of you! I want to clarify that I will be contacting the voices that best fit the characters after the deadline on August 5th. I want to make sure everyone gets a fair chance, including those who are currently following the project but haven't submitted their audio yet! This extra time also allows me and the rest of the dev team to have everything properly set up before bringing the chosen voice actors into our Discord server.

    My intention is definitely not to leave this page silent for a whole month, so I will be posting an update at least once a week to keep you updated. What I can tell you right now is that while I'll be casting for these initial 3 roles, the final cast will obviously be much larger, as you might have guessed. I'll share more details about this next week!

The protagonist, who will experience this story in the first person! An ex-investigator who decided to leave his old job behind, finding himself overly stressed, to enjoy time with his family. A man who gets angry easily but manages to focus when in a dangerous situation. He doesn't like being surrounded by people, but he has his trusted few. Outfits are an important element for him. He believes they tell a lot about a person, but is he wrong? Many of his ideas are not shared by others, but thanks to his reputation as an investigator, almost everyone ignores this side of him. Will this "death game" make him change his mind? Will he be the one to lead the others to their ruin because of his temper, or the one who manages to get them out thanks to his deduction skills? You either love him or hate him, there is no in-between.

The girl who brings joy to children, this is the short but perfect description of this character! At first glance, she seems like someone who has no idea what to do: she is cheerful, she falls into despair, she tries to be brave, but she will always strive to keep a smile on her face in front of others. Will she be able to maintain it the entire time during this "death game"? She masks her true feelings behind an explosive and theatrical energy, but an observant eye might catch glimpses of a deeper, unspoken past hidden right beneath the makeup.

Just a voice, nothing else, at least for now, they remain unseen. But they are the one pulling the strings, and the others know it! A voice that sounds almost like a child, or maybe it's just completely mocking? They love to be theatrical with their tone and their words. This is the entity that will accompany the victims on their deadly journey, watching them fight, form alliances, and betray each other. He, or she, will be right there, enjoying the twisted spectacle they've always wanted. A truly wicked villain. No one could ever say a single good word about this person.
