Hello everyone! This is the casting call for our new Indie Animated Series: The Ethereal Chronicles! (Also a Theater/Showtunes-esque MUSICAL!!) The series is currently UNPAID until further notice! Depending on the success of this project, there is a potential for pay, but DO NOT COME INTO THIS PROJECT EXPECTING PAY. We're all broke and this is a PASSION PROJECT, so it's all for funsies!
The Deadline is currently March 1st, 2025, but there is a high possibility that this will change! Depending on how many auditions we receive in that time. Your auditions will be reviewed in the meantime! We may not cast until closer to the deadline, though!
Project Summary:JD is a normal, average dude living in the poorest city of the country, Glumridge, run by Brim the Ethereal. He has a pretty ordinary job, relationship troubles, a shaggy apartment, HORRIBLE luck, and a dream. Well- something like that. All things considered, he's pretty content with his ordinary ass life. That is, until he meets Areos.
Areos is part of a near extinct species known as Octura. They're demon-like, shadow-y looking people, who have been known to be horrible, cruel beings throughout history. However, this narrative is changed once Areos is released from the mirror prison he had been trapped in for centuries. Areos used to be an Octura Warrior, fighting against the Ethereal race. That is, until the last remaining Ethereals captured him inside a mirror, forcing him to watch the years pass by.
Now, once Areos is freed from his prison, it's his mission to take down the Ethereals and their corrupt monarchy they call an empire. Since JD is the one that freed him, that makes this whole mission his problem as well. Who knows, maybe he's truly destined for something great. Or... maybe he's just a guy.

It is EXPECTED but not exactly REQUIRED that you know how to sing with your role! We are technically able to use a different singing voice, but it’d make it easier if the character’s voice actor can also sing! This however is not required for the following roles: Vanessa (except like one line), Archivist, The Guards, and Areos until later on. Background characters may be asked for emsamble but it’s undecided right now.

Auditions are preferred in either the ABCABC OR AABBCC format, doesn't matter! Unless it's just a demo reel, anything's fine! Also, try to include a snippet of you singing the provided singing voice claim as the character! If you can't that's fine!
The Project Deadline has been OFFICIALLY changed to May 1st, 2025! Be sure to spread the word of the project so we can give as many people as many opportunities as possible! We're so excited for this project and take off and to be working with people! We still need animators, so be sure to keep an eye out for that too!
There is a very good chance the deadline will extend from March 1st to May 1st, so keep an eye out for that! We just want to provide everyone with the opportunity to audition, so be sure to share with anyone who may be interested, or reshare on social medias to get the word out!
We're really looking for more Areos, Aziza, and Brim auditions, so be sure to share with anyone who might be interested! We're mostly looking for black voice actors for Areos and Aziza!

The main character of The Ethereal Chronicles, JD (Don't ask what it stands for, he doesn't even know), is an ordinary, run-of-the-mill, average, unremarkable, low-class guy. He's 23, he lives alone in a run-down apartment building, and works as a security guard at the Official Ethereal Task Force building (OETF). Recently broken up with, and just overall not having a good time, he's often turned to drinking and smoking. Regardless, he does like his job, even while working with... what's his name.
Personality: Very unserious in dire situations, very witty and cracks joke a lot, even if the situation doesn't call for it. He's very smart socially and street smart, but he's very much a slacker outside of work. He is smart, but hardly applies himself towards anything meaningful. He's very much a loser, and extremely unlucky when it comes to minor inconveniences, this dude will get splashed with water by a passing bicycle, or stub his toe on the way out of bed.
His voice claim is Kenai from Brother Bear and Mordecai from The Regular Show.

(For the first line, Vesper is their GOD, so every "Oh my God" or "God knows-" is replaced with Vesper)
(Snarky/Angry As a sloppy, not very thought out comeback.) “AGH– HEY! Yea, thanks for that, asswipe! Don’t forget to punch me in the face- or- or set my car on fire on your way out! Vesper knows thats what I need right now… Actually, how about you just take my FUCKING HOUSE AWAY while you’re at it!” (The character is already gone at this point, he’s just ranting to himself)
(Panicked, Almost hysterical and rambling; A man has just emerged from a broken, cheap mirror JD had just purchased.) “Oh-hohoho- Okay, yup, I know what this is… I’m in a dream. Somewhere in a hospital, I’m in a death coma, and now they’re pulling the plug! A pre-death hallucination. Yes, that's totally what's happening right now. It’s a more believable alternative to an EXTINCT WAR CRIMINAL CLIMBING OUT OF MY FREAKIN’ MIRROR. YEAH, YEAH, YEAH. (Slight Pause) I think I’d rather be dying in a hospital bed right now than be living this.”
(Drunken and Joking tone, Heavily slurring words) “Noo Vanessa. You can’t keep following me around like a lost puppy, I’ve got things to do! I’m a busy guy, ya’know. Busy moving on from YOUU! Yea- Yeah I should have said that. That would’ve really pissed her off. (Light chuckling at the last few words)
The second main character of the series, Areos (ARE-OHS), is one of the last remaining Octura in the world. He was trapped in a mirror for 400 years, and finally released by this unremarkable loser just looking to buy a mirror. Before getting trapped in the mirror, he was an Octura warrior, fighting in the war against the Ethereals. When he was the last Octura standing, and far too stubborn to give up, the Ethereals decided to trap him in a mirror instead of killing him, forcing him to watch the years pass by from the other side.
Personality: Areos is seen as a jerk and suffering from some kind of psychotic breakdown, however, he is still very intelligent, both book smart and in combat. Although, after all those years locked away, he has come to be less-than-ideal in combat. Despite this, he is still very powerful and confident in his abilities, maybe too much, even if he has to unlock and retrain them. He's very aloof, and not fond of neither humans nor Ethereals, much less combined. However, he has a VERY small soft spot for a select few people he allows himself to get to know. People often mispronounce his name, he's learned to just ignore it.
His voice claim is Kino from Arcane
His singing voice claim is First Light - Hozier or Jekyll from the OG cast of Jekyll and Hyde
This character doesn't sing much until later on.
(Aggravated) Those bastards in uniform over there are the ethereal soldiers, correct? I've never seen that symbol on humans before though. Didn't know the ethereals trusted you humans with the task of patrolling the streets.
(Confused, Cautious, Aggressive) Where am I?? What is this place?? Who are you to have broken an artifact whomst of which has stayed in perfect condition for nearly 400 YEARS. Who are you to have freed me from my prison? Are you some leader of an octura rebellion? Or someone of status that can assist me with tasks such as murder an ethereal? (Despite being in crisis, he spoke clearly, coherently, and confidently. He released his one hand from JD’s mouth to hear his response to his questions)
(Sarcastically) Psh, kill me? They’re humans, I doubt they could give me a papercut. (He paused) …I wasn’t going to start anything. (He added, annoyed)
The Third Protagonist of the series, Aziza (Ah-Zee-Zah) is the daughter of Brim the Ethereal and Leader of the Official Ethereal Task Force (OETF). She commands and trains armies for the Ethereals, one of their top performing guards. She is very physically skilled in combat, flight, and fitness. Along with most Ethereal Kids, Aziza is one of the main antagonists throughout Season 1. Aziza is about 250 years old but 24 physically.
Personality: Arrogant and Combative, but is also very intellectual and calculated when it comes to combat and strategy. She has half of her father's rage but twice his smarts. Compared to other Ethereal children, Aziza is considered open-minded. However, she's often seeming disgusted and looking down on the people of the lower-class cities. She has the ability of flight and enhances senses, especially strength and speed. One of her main goals is to not turn out like her father, even though she is subconsciously on her way there.

(Mockingly, Under her Breath) “ ‘How was your day Aziza?’ ‘Oh fine, Dad, peachy! Just sending a whole patrol after a dumb antique that's probably in pieces by now because my ogre of a father hates me!’ (Short Pause) Drunken oaf… “
(Voice starts out raised and slowly descends to guilty) LOOK! LOOK... ok fine, I didn't mean for this to happen, but you're being a massive drama queen. I'll just go send a patrol to fetch the mirror back, it'd take 2 hours at minimum.
(Monotone, Serious) (Sighs) …Check Solice. Now. I'm not repeating myself, if my father catches you making jokes like that while searching for that mirror he'll have your head! Or your job. Whichever comes first. He’s very unpredictable these days.
Brim the Ethereal is one of the leaders of Etherea. Brim's leadership is centered around the strength elements of the world. He's the one that hosts Colosseum events, commands armies, enforces laws and punishments, and keeps overpopulation in check. He's known for being the most aggressive out of the Ethereals, and by far the most feared by civilians. Brim has the most children out of the Ethereals, and his children often go into a more hands-on, physical field. Whether that be working as Guards under him, Security, Soldiers, or something unrelated to the OETF such as Boxers/Fighters, Welders/Blacksmiths, Construction Workers, or Mechanics.
His abilities include mostly strength/physical based powers like Enhanced strength, enhanced senses and agility, flight, weapon summoning, and shape-shifting. His children usually inherit 1-3 of these abilities each and take on his grayish/purplish complexion, horns, and an off number of eyes. His blood hungry nature and love of fighting and war reflects over his parenting style, even his own children have to fight for his affection and really fight for anything that they need.
Personality: Brim is very ruthless and cruel, with his sense of morality proving very corrupt and violent. He doesn't care so much about his reputation, as long as it's being feared. He's Crass, Arrogant, Self-Obsessed, Strong, Courageous, Egotistical, Charismatic, and Emotional. His emotions drive him instead of his brain, and his problems are often solved through intimidation or physicality.

(Fuming, Panicked; Basically throwing a tantrum) THAT WAS NOT JUST FUCKING FURNITURE AND YOU KNOW THAT YOU– YOU STUPID GIRL. (He continued arguing through yells, stuttering to get his words out through his panic)
I DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT FUCKING MIRROR. IT'S HIM. HE'S LOOSE. HE'S ESCAPED FROM THE MIRROR DIMENSION, I KNOW IT. Aziza if I so much as see a CHIP in the mirror's frame I will have you banished from Eden SO FAST. (He was frantic and hysterical while Speaking quickly and borderline incoherently)
(Dramatic, Sobbing) I just.. I miss him SO MUCH! Yes I imprisoned him but, I miss our incredibly one sided conversations! (He said through dramatic and comedic sobs)
Thia the Ethereal, the other Ethereal ruling over Etherea, is far more liked than Brim. In fact, it's her entire Brand. Forsythia's strong suit is mental and emotional manipulation. Contrary to Brim, Thia's reputation is built upon people adoring and worshiping her, although she does tend to strike the occasional fear into out-of-line civilians. Thia's the one that hosts parties and events for the Ethereals, covering up their problematic past and keeping up their reputation. She's also on almost every advertisement, company logo, and branding in Etherea, and if not her, then one of her top performing children. Thia's children are mostly the opposite of Brim's, as they go into either the entertainment industry or the business field. Thia's high performing children are like Singers, Dancers, Models, Lawyers, or any kind of Manager. Her lower performing children, or ones that don't want anything to do with her, might be Accountants, Baristas, Reporters/Writers/Journalists, Photographers, Artists, or like Street Performers/Magicians. Something of that nature.
Personality: Thia's branding requires her to be manipulative and charismatic. She's also very business savvy, neglectful, cruel, and materialistic as her horns are always covered with jewels and rings. As part of her manipulative nature, she's also oddly comforting, as she's able to put on a caring, motherly facade to sway her children. Thia's abilities include: Hypnotism (via song), Flight, Night Vision, Enhanced Speed and Vision, Light Bending, and Telepathy. Her children often inherit these traits, as well as her physical ones, including her glowing skin markings, wings, and lack of pupils/irises. She also owns a pet white snake named Venus, who serves as her second pair of eyes.

(Distracted; sitting at a giant vanity fixing her hair while Brim throws a tantrum.) Brim, sweetheart, seriously. Calm down. Even if he has managed to escape, where is he to go? A fugitive demon with the whole country against him, don’t make me laugh. I believe Aziza is competent enough to handle this pest. And honestly, if not, what worth is she?
(Speaking to her niece; Higher pitched voice, pretending to care.) Oh my God, I know he can be such a prick! That's why you're my favorite of his, so smart. Could I borrow your brain for a second and have you fill out these papers for Auntie Thia? Thank you sweetie~
JD's obsessive ex-girlfriend, a reoccurring background character. She and JD hooked up once, and now she's dependent and clinging to him. She may show up a few times, but only has a few lines in the Pilot.

(Crying; Complaining/venting to her friends through tears) I swear– it’s like he doesn’t even care anymore, you know? Like– Like– what does HE have that I don’t?? Does he think he can just– just– WALK AWAY?? (She starts sobbing)

The Archivist of the OETF building, he works with JD and often finds him to make conversation. If you ask the Archivist, he'd say he and JD are pretty good friends, if you ask JD... He'd say he hates the guy. So much so that he never even bothered to learn his name. And now you'll never know either.

Levi is apart of the only remaining population of half Octura living in a secluded and secret marketplace area within Glumridge alongside the border. He is very knowledgeable and skilled in ancient Octura history, traditions, combat, etc. You name is, he probably knows it. If not, his grandfather probably knows it. One of the oldest living Octura, he's the one that trained Levi and his family his whole life. He and his family have been training to start a rebellion and take down the Ethereals, but they're afraid because they are incredibly outnumbered and underpowered. Most of the family are either too old or too young to be in battle as well. They continue to wait for the right day to attack... If it ever comes.
Age: 17
Personality: He's very kind and honorable, he trusts easily and will always have your back. Despite being trustworthy, he has picked up a few tricks from his siblings. He loves pulling pranks, and he's a good pick pocket, having had to steal food and valuables from strangers and market tents. His powers are just weaker versions of Octura power, he can sense when other Octura are around, conjure shadows, and has enhanced senses. Half Octura haven't learned how to do most things full Octura can do.

This role can be a singer for any character in the series if: The voice actor can't or doesn't want to sing, AND the singer chosen can replicate the same sounding voice while singing as the voice actor can while talking. The singing voice must sound like it's from the same character. This means if you apply for both voice actor and singer, you may be chosen for only singer if we find you'd better suit that role.
On the other side, a singer can also provide background songs if seen fit.

This is an animated series project! It won't be fully animated, we're looking to mix tweening, animatics, and full animations into the style. Full animations would be reserved for fight scenes and stuff. Again, unpaid unless we make a large profit off of the Pilot.

It'd be even better if you're an indie band or know an indie band that might fit the vibe of this series! Our main artist/inspiration at the moment is Jhariah, so that's what a lot of our music may resemble. We may also be looking for like show-tunes-y/Broadway musicals kinda music, since this show is a musical!
