‘The Duo’ - 90 minute feature film table read
Project Overview
I’m hosting a table read for my first feature film ‘The Duo’. This project has passed the first draft stage and the purpose of this is for me to hear the dialogue out loud. This project has a lot of profanity along with vulgar and suggestive actions that is not for the faint of heart.
Synopsis: when a broke man finds out that he had a son he was unaware of, he sets out on a journey to create a connection. When he finds out his son is the C.E.O. and multimillionaire owner of a social media company, an unusual bond forms between the two as they become partners in crime. Literally.
I’m primarily looking for people (17+) to help voice these characters so they come to life for the first time. Have fun with these lines, try and record a few takes of every line so it’s easier to get a sense of variety in your voice.

Jackson is an older unmarried man who hasn’t had the best financial circumstances in life. He’s more on the grumpy side but tends to look at the brightness in situations.

We…well I’m sorry to hear that… but what does that have to do with me, and you being here so early in the morning?
(Cocky)
You know… women power and all that, but seriously? You’ve never wanted to… with her?
(Shaky and in pain)
I wish I knew what a great son I’d had sooner… *cough*
(After a pause in dialogue)
I have always wanted to give my kids some advice they’d always keep with them. I think it’s time I share it with you…
Seth is the son of Jackson. He’s very wealthy, smart, and thinks quick on his feet. He’s sometimes flirty, and has big, but deserved ego.

Line 1: (giving an announcement)
This is a bigger operation than any of our previous ones. We’re expecting at least a 1.2 million dollar payout for each party. Welcome to the big boy league!
(Pauses for applause)
This heist is going to be at the United International Bank of London…
(Switches to a refined English accent)
…and if everything goes smoothly, this will be our biggest hit yet!
Line 2: (angry, confused, and upset)
Would you just shut up! God, you just had to ruin things! You were never supposed to find out about this! What am I supposed to do with you now!
(Very emotional, teary and rushed)
NO! Stay awake! You have to stay awake for me dad! You promised you’d always be here!
*This character does not show up until the very end of the film*
Lauren is Seth’s Mother and Jackson’s ex partner. She purposeful neglected to mention Seth’s pregnancy to Jackson, leaving him in the dark. She is a sweet caretaker with a love for her family.

(Happy and careful: going in for a hug)
Oh my Seth!
Trix is Seth’s 19 year old assistant who climbed the ranks by her social media following and influence. She’s bubbly and spunky yet fierce and has a strong relationship with Seth.

David is Jackson’s childhood best friend. He owns a 7/11 and had a very odd sense of humor and spunk to him.

Well it won’t obviously happen like that. You should really get to know him soon though. Then you ask for a couple hundred grand.
(Mocking and playfully upset)
Man, I’m so jealous! In a matter of days you went from not being able to afford rent, to living this lavish lifestyle.
Officer Riley is a friend of Seth who was sent to inform Jackson not only about his son, but the passing of his ex. He’s charismatic and kind and tries to find the best in people.

(over the phone)
Seth! This is officer Riley, whom you sent to inform a Mr. Gardner of your mothers passing. (Say passing like it’s a question)
(Over the phone)
(Sigh)
He slammed the door in my face and thought it was a prank…
Liam is a very technological person. He knows how to work his way around a thing or two when it comes to cameras, computers, and basically anything. He’s a smart ass who is often rude in communication with others. He means well but has absolutely no sense of social queues.

Happy is Seth’s personal driver and is best friends with Liam. They’re like two peas in a pod and have the same social insecurities. Happy is more shy and sheltered but once he’s in a mood it effects everyone in the room.

Timothy is a teenager from London, United Kingdom, and works at an international bank. He was recruited into Seth’s team in an usual way. He’s witty and curious. He’s funny and cares about his friends.

Dylan is not friendly. He’s the villain of this story. He’s greedy, conceded, and crude. He has little to no patience and is vengeful. He used to be best friends with Seth until he abruptly left the friendship out of jealousy.

Doctor Collins is an English doctor who takes care of Jackson after he passes out from extreme exhaustion. She’s a standard doctor who just tried to get along through the day but takes the time to care for every patient and they’re loved ones.

No, it certainly did help. But, from the standpoint of a fifty something year old man, it took a lot out of his body.
(Reassuring)
Like I said, he’ll be just fine. We’ve got him on sedatives to help him sleep off the pain. We’re going to keep him here for the next few days just to observer him and see how his body recoils.

Kristy is a very charismatic, kind, and dog loving person. When she gets nervous she tends to over talk and get very jittery. She has a lot of room for love and kindness I’m her heart. She’s just a sweetie.
