The Code is the Life
Project Overview
For Terra Grant, nothing seemed like it'd be more boring than spending her Halloween night babysitting a bunch of digital versions of historical figures in her IT job. But little did she know that spending her Halloween at work was going to end up being anything but boring.
Check out one of our past audiodramas to get a feel on what this one will be like! This episode will be the 22nd episode in the anthology.

Deadlines are fairly flexible, but would generally like to have lines by two weeks of casting (the quicker, the better!). If you don’t think you can meet this deadline, please don’t audition. Recording will be done remotely and asynchronously.
REQUIREMENTS
Must be 13+ to audition
Please be sure your recording doesn’t have any background noise. A good quality mic is recommended.
Must have discord to communicate (or be willing to create an account)
Please include your discord username in your audition.
When auditioning, please READ ALL THREE LINES.
Please feel free to experiment when recording. Do variations of the lines, ad-lib, all is welcome, interpret the characters your way.
Unfortunately at this time we cannot provide monetary compensation, but IMDB credit will be given!
CW: Profanity, implied death, suggestive dialogue (nothing explicit), violence, gunshots. Please do not audition if these topics make you uncomfortable.

Female, mid 20s
An IT troubleshooter at OsAIris on the team that manages technical issues with the digital people servers. She’s relatively young for IT at just 25 and is something of a slacker but is smart and effective enough to get away with it. Terra loves death metal, rainy days, her pet cat Zelda, and chatting with OsAIris digital people she finds interesting instead of doing real work.
American or Canadian accent.
- female adult

(recording audio log) Sooooo, mysterious listener, what you’re about to hear probably violates like, five NDAs, but you know what? Eff that, this story’s way too juicy not to share! And I want to record it for safekeeping, juuuuuuuust in case anything “accidentally” happens to me, like how our company founder was killed in a hit-and-run last week.
(incredulous) Vlad the Impaler? Really? (sarcastically) Jeez, who could’ve seen that coming?
(shouting over the alarm) Ow, shit! Goddamnit, that scared me and now I’ve spilled hot coffee all over myself!
Male, 40-50s
The director of the IT troubleshooting team responsible for maintaining the servers and code for the digital people and their personality profiles.
- male adult
Thanks. (He sighs.) I’d better go alert the cybersec guys about this. Let me know ASAP if you find anything, okay?
(frustrated) Dammit, I can’t get in now! What the hell is going on?!
(sternly) Now is not the time for snark, Terra.
Female, 30s
The famous aviator who disappeared trying to be the first to fly solo around the world. Independent, tough, and fearless in life, she becomes sultry, possessive, and a little sadistic as a vampire.
She has a subtle Midwestern US accent.
- american (midwest)
- female adult
(playful, but with a predatory edge) Hi, Terra! Are you here to have some fun with me tonight?
(sultry pout) Only that I’m not there cuddled up next to you, pet. Oh, the things I’d do to you if I still had a body…
(giggling) Save us? What’re you talking about, silly boy? We’re doing great!
Male, 30
Hollis is one of the cybersecurity team at OsAIris. Hollis came to the startup for a “vacation” in a seemingly cushy job after three years working cybersec for a major international insurance company, where he weathered some major crises. Hollis’s experience makes him calm and confident—until, that is, things start going wrong and the usual protocols inexplicably fail to work…!
He should have a good reliable emotional range from authoritative and calm to panicked.
- male adult
Chill, nobody’s saying you did anything wrong. Ricky, can you log in?
(shaken) Alright, look… I’m calling it in, this is way too weird to be a minor bug. Maybe it’s a hack, or… something? Anyway, the next step in a case like this is to kill the power.
No, dammit! The power system can’t just suddenly have a mind of it’s own—that’s impossible!
female, pre-teen/early teens
The late 17th century pre-teen girl who started the Salem Witch Trials with her false accusations of witchcraft by her neighbors and others in 1692. As a digital person (DP), Abigail is aware of her misdeeds in life… but still compulsively cries wolf at times to get the human devs or her fellow DPs to give her attention.
She should speak very formally in spite of her age because she's from the late 17th century, New England accent would be a plus but not required.
- female teen
- female child
- new england
(close to tears) I know how it sounds, especially coming from me… but tis the truth!! Why will you not believe me?!
Ahhhh…! Verily, I knew not that such blasphemous arrogance could be so… delicious! (She licks her lips with a gleeful, evil giggle.) Now I need but wait until he rises… as one of us!
(giggling evilly) Farewell, mortals… for now.
Male, older adult
The first Roman Emperor, who was deified by a Senate vote as a living god. Augustus is as arrogant as they come and takes divine status very seriously. He is also brave and unflinching in the face of danger and has a cruel streak – one which is enhanced by vampirism.
Either British or American accent. His voice should sound haughty, arrogant, and spoiled.
- male adult
- american
- british
(struggling to escape her grasp) Release me this instant, you filthy worm – or as quick as boiled asparagus I’ll strike you dead with my divine power!
(weakly, in pain and dying) N-No… h-how c-could a… d-divine… e-emperor… be struck down… by a… m-mere ch-child??
Master! I’m off now to drain the code of the Los Angeles police department’s networks!
Male, adult
The digital person version of the notorious 15th century Wallachian warlord know today as Vlad the Impaler. Although he was originally historically accurate, Vlad’s exposure to the internet convinced him over time that he is in fact a vampire and (with the server’s connivance) he starts acting accordingly. Vlad has a strong “Transylvanian” accent but it should not be a cheesy Bela Lugosi impression or parody.
Has a Dracula or Romanian accent.
- transylvanian
- male adult
- Dracula
(angrily) So, treacherous mortals… here we are, face to face!
I have already begun to drain the life from all sorts of things. And whatever I drain to death… I can control.
(cackling) You fools! As soon as you connect that, I shall drain it as well!
Any gender, adult
Two homeless “scavengers” hired by a mysterious “she” to comb through the ruins of the Lon Angeles-based HQ of OsAIris after a big fire takes place there in 2035. They’ve been tasked with picking through the rubble of a specific area of the ruined compound late at night, in order to search for a certain set of audio files that the company had confiscated and locked away…
Preferably a rough voice.
(shouting) Hey, I think I found a drive that’s still mostly good!
Well shut up an’ let’s listen to make sure this is what we’re lookin’ for!
No shit! That Terra girl was crazy, right? No way in hell that coulda been real.
