The Caverns
Project Overview
An orphan boy named Ryder has fended for his own over the past 17 years of his life, he doesn't know where he's come from but he's become resourceful in need of staying alive. By karma, unluckiness, or worse, he's been taken into government custody due to running away from the orphanage. He's then drafted into an expedition to The Caverns.
The caverns go deep underground, further than any miner could dream until they begin to appear otherworldly, with whole worlds existing within a single cave system that branches off of the caverns. Each is filled with runes, riches, and relics. Before the expeditions, nobody ventured into the caverns for fear of becoming lost, or killed by many of the monsters that inhabit the caves.
Within days of being drafted, he, along with 9 others, is sent down into the caverns, tasked to explore and return riches to the government. But something goes wrong, horribly wrong, when Ryder retrieves a ruby, changing the entire direction of the expedition, and his life forever. When you are logged in, you can comment, add submissions, create projects, upvote, search open roles, and way more. Enoch York
He/Him 20
Enoch York is one of the two leaders of The Discoverers. As one of 5 who survived the expedition, making it back to Tol Mor, he was instantly regarded as a hero for returning from the expedition, leaving behind the majority of his late compatriots. Before he was a quiet man, believing all his life to find some sort of adventure, but now he wishes he could save them all. The names of Layton, Grey, Maribel, Wallace, Maria and Alexander, Salem, and Echo are ones he carries with him, blaming himself for their deaths, either from being lost or being killed by cavern beasts, always believing there was something he could do.
Enoch is the returned hero, and he's being paraded around as such, only being grumpy that he had to be used for press, wanting to return to his quiet life as the hero who made it home and completed his journey. He doesn't mind it too much though, often finding it theraputic to talk to new explorers before their descents.

Lilith Mars is the cartographer of The Cipherers, they’re described as an artist. Lilith’s work illustrates the streets of Tol Mor. Their art brought the people of the city together, igniting warmth in the cold minds of those who lost family members to the great honor of the expeditions.
They were an unlikely addition to the team but they had a clear motive to be added, one of painting the beauty of the caverns to return to the people of Tol Mor, as a reminder of why the expeditions were important and why the caverns needed to be protected. Lilith’s placement as a cartographer is unknown however it was rumored that they had impeccable skill in drawing and creating maps due to their art skills. Another rumor is that they’re the reason that Simon Solis is a survivalist, but neither of those is known to be true or not due to the secrecy of the placement process.

Vesper Sterling, chosen as a general member of The Cypherers’ expedition was placed due to the wealth of their family, wanting to gain more favor with Desmond Delmond. This, however, was entirely against their choice. Vesper was rumored to be causing disturbances. Disturbances of the resistance type.
He wanted to get rid of the draft system for many of the candidates as well as declassify their findings. His resistance caused him to be sent away, to cause less of a threat to the Sterlings’ fortune. After being sent away to prepare for his expedition, they stopped fighting, knowing there was nothing he could do to stop what was now in motion.

Bo Cassini is a fighter for The Cipherers, unlike Audrey Scratts who had trained her whole life to be on an expedition, Bo is a wild card. Taken from prison and given the expedition as punishment, much like Ryder Calypso, Scarlett and Damien Blake, and much of The Runners’ original crew.
Jailed for murder, evading arrest, and punching a police officer, he was considered a wild card. Spending much of the time before the descent sedated out of worry that he could cause a further delay to Desmon’s already shrunk schedule.
Born on the streets to scrounge for good, he was skin and bone before his arrest, not caring about the expeditions, his crime being theft, largely ignored by him fighting for his life, killing a guard, hitting another, and attempting to run away. However it did not bring him much success, due to the magical weapons at the guards’ expense.

Archer Galileo
Prns: He/They
Age: 19
Archer Galileo is a cartographer on The Cipherer's expedition. Born on the outskirts of Tol Mor, he's done some hunting for survival. He knows a lot about the creatures in the woods sorrounding the city, but nothing about those that lurk in the depths of the caverns. Chosen as a cartographer for his resourcefulness rather than academic skills (those of which he has little of due to not being fortunate enough to attend schooling as he could not afford it).
His hunting skills, while helpful, are the reason he was chosen for the expedition. In the years of Lord Delmond's reign and his forfathers, large walls around the city of Tol Mor had been constructed to protect the city from potential invasion as well as escaping cavern beasts. Archer hasn't just hunted outside of Tol Mor, he's hunted within the caverns, sneaking within. On one of these excursions, he had been caught by Desmond's guards, and rather than wasting a man who could fight the dangerous beings, Desmond requested that he would be placed on the next expedition.
Archer's given name is unknown, the name "Archer" given to him by Desmond's guards upon capture. His last name was the only thing that could be connected to him, descending from a long line of astronomers who had served Lord Delmond. These astronomers reading the skies for prophecies and future premonitions about the caverns. Upon the finding of Desmond, the Galileos had warned Lord Delmond that Desmond could bring upon an end to the peace that had reigned in the caverns. Instead of listening, he had the family put to death, leaving a child without this knowledge set free. Archer is the son of that child, knowing nothing of such past.
