The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes - Season 1

Project Overview

The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes is my own take of an adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes mythos and characters in a modern setting, featuring variations of the original characters from those stories given new life.

Full Season Synopsis

2025 - Army surgeon Dr. Joanne “Jo” Watson is brought back to London from the war front in Afghanistan after an injury. Once back home, an old friend introduces her to eccentric consulting detective Sherlock Holmes, and is thrown straight into the bizarre life of the world’s most famous detective.

Sherlock Holmes is wrapped up in the most difficult case of his career so far, where a mysterious figure commits multiple thefts of expensive jewellery with relative ease, seemingly always two steps ahead of Sherlock and his strategies with the Scotland Yard police force. He must pull out all the stops to make sure this shadowy criminal is finally brought to justice!

You can contact me through my Discord (williamm3912 - I'd also recommend sending me a message on Discord if this is what you're doing as I won't know otherwise). You can use this method to send me your lines as well.

To be honest, recording quality's not an issue for me. If you want to edit your lines to give me your best takes, that's completely fine. Bloopers would be acceptable as well, though, as they are fun to listen through.

Dr. Joanne "Jo" Watson was an army surgeon working for the British Army during the new Afghanistan War. When she was shot in battle and gravely injured, she was sent home to London to recover. During her time back in London, she meets Sherlock Holmes and is immediately wrapped up in the insanity of the consulting detective's life.

Jo is a courageous person who is willing to put her life on the line for anyone cares about. She is curious and has a knack for observation that, when truly refined, could even rival that of Sherlock's. She seems to be dealing with her past trauma from the war exceedingly well, but there's always a mask to slip.

  • And this is how it started. This is the story of how I met Mr. Sherlock Holmes.

  • (Talking about suspects) You mean, aside from the fact that they tried to beat each other up on our new sofa?

  • Explains the scaring on your knuckles, I guess. Well, as a doctor, I would notice something like that.

Martha Hudson is the kindly landlady to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson down at 221B Baker Street, and part of the heart and soul of the original stories.

Martha, on the surface, doesn't seem to much out of the ordinary compared to the super sleuths and army doctors, but you never judge a book by it's cover. Martha is kind and sweet on the surface, but she hides a fierceness which is only truly unleashed in protectiveness when anyone closest to her - mainly Sherlock - finds themselves in trouble. She's also a formidable martial artist, so be careful when picking a fight with her.

  • (To Jo) There you are. Mr. Sheppard told me what you like in your tea. I think that's up to standard.

  • Of course, I understand what Sherlock's like around people. I'm surprised he didn't take you with him. You've seemed to be joint to the hip since you came here.

  • Let that be a lesson to you. No one hurts my boy!

Role Type: Main Antagonist

Appearances: Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6

Irene Adler is a popular pop music artist from America - her claim to fame was a emphatic performance on America's Got Talent, and since then she's been going from strength to strength, going on tours, performing around the world. Recently, however, she found herself being forced to turn to a life of crime due to some unsavoury circumstances.

Irene is complicated and, to some people, confusing. She's remarkable intelligent - intelligent enough to outsmart the great Sherlock Holmes on more than one occasion. She's confident in her own abilities, despite overwhelming odds, but she also has a vulnerable side brought on by a tragic past she doesn't speak of, and has a tendency to act rashly in situations she finds desperate.

  • I'm insulted, Mr. Holmes. I thought you'd be a bit more cultured.

  • You know I wouldn't have done it if I had any other choice. Like you said, there are dangerous people after me if I don't pay up. The crown jewels would've been my way out.

  • See. This is why I'm so interested in you. Someone who can see things and make connections about someone without them saying a word. You thought you were alone. So did I. I guess this proves we're not.

Role Type: Secondary Antagonist

Appearances: Episode 1, Episode 5, Episode 6

Sebastian Moran is a Colonel in the British Army, who was one of the troop leaders on the front lines in Afghanistan during this new war. Eventually, however, he started to drift away from his duties, and his ideologies seemed to change. He now works for the mysterious "Professor", seemingly carrying out his dirty work.

Moran is an enigma. During his wartime service, he could be considered heroic and caring, never leaving any of his troops behind, but post his dismissal from the British Army, we start to see him a new light as cruel and vindictive, who's main focus, despite carrying over the care and respect for his fellow soldiers, will do anything to get the job done, regardless of who has to suffer.

  • That'll teach you to forget extra ammo. Don't worry, the next camp's not far. It'll be quite a run, but we can make it.

  • Ms. Adler, this needn't be difficult! The Professor just wants a word with you. We can be civil about this, can't we?

  • Trust me, I wouldn't enjoy it, but I will if I have to.
