The Boy Who Wields the Key: A Kingdom Hearts Musical

Project Overview

Calling all singers, actors, and cosplayers to audition for The Boy Who Wields The Key, a Kingdom Hearts parody musical


This will be a virtual production incorporating live and pre-recorded elements a la Ratatouille and Musical Without a Cool Acronym. Most of the scenes with just dialogue (no singing) will be filmed on zoom while songs and action sequences will be pre-recorded, mixed, elsewhere. We are currently aiming to perform Fall 2022 in honor of the 20th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts. This production is purely for fun and entertainment purposes, and will not be paid or monetized in any way, however we do aim to raise for The Actor's Fund. Rehearsals will begin in January held on weekday and weekend nights. We will hold off for a month to give you time to read the script and and get into character and will resume in April. If you're a lead you can expect multiple rehearsals per week


Like Fandom Hearts, The Boy Who Wields the Key is a fan made parody of the first Kingdom Hearts with dialogue from the game, songs from Fandom Hearts, Disney hits (with some modified lyrics of course) and even some of our original jokes

To audition, please submit a video below of you acting as a particular character, saying/singing the lines listed for that corresponding character. For songs, sing along to the accompanying backing track linked below the lyrics. You are welcome to improvise additional lines or songs in character if you are inclined to do so. Casting Call Club doesn't allow large video files to be submitted, so on this website, just submit an MP3 file in which you state your first and last name, age, and role for which you are auditioning. Then, in your audition notes, include a link to the audition video itself, which can be uploaded to either YouTube or Google Drive. Please see the Riku audition submitted by Jess as an example to follow! We would prefer if you uploaded just one video per character, though you are welcome to make cuts in the video in between you saying/singing the different listed lines. Microphones of high quality are preferred, as is the ability to change the background of your video, either with a green screen or other video software (i.e. Zoom). These are not required for auditions themselves, but if you are cast, we will need to work out a way to get high quality recordings of your voice and change the background of your video. If cast, you will also be asked to use any costume pieces you have available to help you look like your character, though we will also be able to help supply you with some costume pieces if necessary. If you already cosplay the character you are casted as, great! That would diminish any costuming expenses.

All roles are currently open, with the exceptions of Sora and Riku, who will be played by producers Chris and Jess, respectively. For reference, you can view sample auditions we submitted for the two characters. Anyone is welcome to audition for any role regardless of age/race/gender/ethnicity/etc. Specifically for Ansem, Tiana, Dr. Facilier, Esmeralda, Jasmine, Aladdin and Jafar, we are looking to cast People of Color appropriately. The script has Sora and Kairi kiss though how this will be pulled off virtually is TBD.  All roles will require singing, The show is generally family-friendly, except for a few curse words blurted out by Donald, Ansem, and Riku as "Kick Some Ass Tonight" will be our most explicit song. You will have to submit an audition for each character you would like to be considered for, with the exception of "Ensemble"; everyone who submits an audition for any named character will automatically be considered for ensemble roles/bit parts unless they request otherwise.

The biggest priority of this show is having fun, so try to let loose and have a lot of fun with your audition. If you have any questions, feel free to message me. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to seeing your auditions! May your heart be your guiding key
