Telemachus of Ithaca
open
Unpaid

Telemachus (Son of Odysseus and Penelope)

Telemachus begins as a hesitant, uncertain young man, but across the story, he grows into his role as heir of Ithaca. His voice should reflect that transformation.

Vocal Quality: A youthful tenor (or high baritone) โ€” clear, searching, and slightly unsure at the start, then gaining steadiness and resonance as his confidence builds.

Tone: Earnest and questioning in Act I, with a slight tremble when he sings of his doubts; later, warmer, fuller, and commanding as he takes on his fatherโ€™s mantle.

Range: Needs flexibility for lyrical, introspective ballads (about his father, his longing, his fears) and also enough power for stirring ensemble numbers where he rallies others or declares his growth.

Credit to Jorge Rivera-Herrans for the lines i will base on for Telemachus

The voice actor of Epic Telemachus won't affect this role, i am not looking for a too childish voice.

  • ``Don't you dare call my mother a tramp!``

  • ``Put down those weapons, and i am sure you'll be spare..!``

  • ``All my life, I'd have died to know you Days and nights I wish that I could show you For 20 years, I never could outgrow you Oh, and now you're here...`

Antinous

Antinous (Leader of the Suitors)

Antinous is arrogant, mocking, and dangerously persuasive. He represents greed and corruption, yet he must be charismatic enough to hold attention whenever he sings.

Vocal Quality: A rich baritone โ€” darker, commanding, with a sharp edge that cuts through the ensemble. His voice should have swagger and weight, carrying menace even when heโ€™s being charming.

Tone: Sarcastic and confident, often sneering in delivery. Where Telemachusโ€™s tone rises with hope, Antinousโ€™s stays grounded, heavy, and almost predatory.

Range: Strong mid- to lower-register presence, with the ability to push into more aggressive belts for intimidation or ensemble dominance.

Style: His songs should feel seductive at first โ€” sly and smooth โ€” but can shift to brash, rhythm-heavy declarations when his true cruelty shows. Great opportunity for patter-like, fast-paced sections where he mocks or manipulates others.

Again, credits to Jorge Rivera-Herrans

  • ``You've made your worst mistake here, might be your last one too You'll have run out of bones to break when you and I are through I'll teach you all the lessons your daddy never could This cruel world doesn't give out presents just for being good, so``

  • ``Go back and cry in your corner Make sure your mother hears If she won't choose a man to adorn her, we'll bring blood and tears``

  • ``Screw this competition, we've been here for hours None of us can string this, we don't have the power Screw this damn challenge, no more delays Can't you guys see we're bein' played?``

Athena

cast offsite

Athena (Goddess of Wisdom, Telemachusโ€™s guide)

Athenaโ€™s voice must strike a balance between the ethereal and the commanding. She is divine, yet deeply invested in Telemachusโ€™s growth โ€” her presence should feel like both a distant star and a sword at his side.

Vocal Quality: Mezzo-soprano with a crystalline clarity, but also a metallic edge โ€” as if her voice carries steel underneath silk. It should soar above the ensemble when needed, yet cut through with precision in dialogue-like sections.

Tone: Wise, steady, and purposeful. At times maternal, at others fierce and martial. When disguised as Mentor, her tone can shift slightly lower, more grounded, but still carries an unmistakable authority.

Range: Wide, able to handle both lyrical, almost hymn-like passages (prayerful or celestial) and forceful, declarative belts (commanding mortals and gods alike).

Style: Her songs often mix mystery and momentum. She might enter with ethereal motifs or harmonies (as if sheโ€™s woven into the music itself), but when guiding Telemachus, her lines should drive forward โ€” urging him toward action.

AGAIN Credits to Jorge Rivera-Herrans

  • I had a challenge, a test of skill A magic boar only the best could kill One day a boy came for the thrill A boy whose mind rivalled the boar's own will

  • This way, you'll know what your place is This way, you can't cross the line This way, when all is over You'll keep yours and I'll keep mine This way, you won't disappoint me This way, you won't waste my time This way, I'll close the door Consider this as my goodbye

Penelope of Ithaca
open
Unpaid

Penelope (Queen of Ithaca, Wife of Odysseus, Mother of Telemachus)

Penelopeโ€™s voice embodies endurance โ€” sorrow carved into strength. Sheโ€™s constantly under pressure from the suitors, yet she carries herself with grace and quiet defiance. Her songs should sound like the heart of Ithaca: patient, mournful, but unbroken.

Vocal Quality: Lyric soprano (or mezzo with a warm upper register) โ€” rich, resonant, and emotive. Her voice should contrast Telemachusโ€™s youth by bringing maturity and gravity.

Tone: Lyrical, aching, and dignified. At times fragile, as if her voice could break under grief, but ultimately layered with an iron steadiness when she defies the suitors or protects her son.

Range: Needs lyrical flexibility for laments and lullaby-like moments, but also strength to cut through ensemble scenes when asserting herself.

Style: Her solos should feel intimate and haunting โ€” weaving themes of longing, weaving (literally, with her famous loom), and resilience. In Act III, her voice should rise in a cathartic swell, transforming sorrow into relief and recognition when Odysseus and Telemachus stand beside her again.

THIS ROLE MAY BE TAKEN LATER BY THE CREATOR, SHE IS STILL THINKING ABOUT HER ROLE

  • ``But I don't know how much longer I'll last since we saw that storm And though it was so close to our kingdom, it was far from the norm, unless Oh, could it be some kinda sign That my world is all about to change? Is it finally time for the challenge I arranged? Though I never thought that it would come to this Just know I'll be here buying you time``

  • ``I will fall in love with you over and over again I don't care how, where, or when No matter how long it's been, you're mine Don't tell me you're not the same person You're always my husband and I've been waiting, waiting``

  • ``I can take the suffering form you, let me take the suffering form..``

Eurycleia

Eurycleia (Loyal Nurse of Telemachus and Penelope)

Eurycleiaโ€™s voice embodies warmth, wisdom, and grounded authority. She is a maternal presence without being sentimental โ€” her songs should feel like guidance, comfort, and quiet strength all at once.

Vocal Quality: Mezzo-soprano or contralto โ€” warm, rich, and steady. Her voice should feel like a safe anchor amidst the chaos of the palace and the suitorsโ€™ schemes.

Tone: Calm, nurturing, but firm. She can sing with tenderness in intimate moments, yet carry gravitas when warning Telemachus or confronting the suitors.

Range: Medium; doesnโ€™t need extreme highs or lows, but requires clarity and emotional resonance. Her power comes more from tone and phrasing than vocal acrobatics.

Style: Her songs are steady and lyrical, often slow or reflective, emphasizing wisdom over drama. She could have small motifs repeated throughout the musical โ€” comforting refrains when Telemachus doubts himself, or solemn warnings when danger approaches.

  • ``My hands have guided you from cradle to manhood, and now I will stand beside you, guarding your courage as fiercely as I have always guarded your heart.``

  • ``Even when the night feels endless and the halls of Ithaca echo with shadows, I have always seen your path and will not let it falter.``

  • ``Steady your heart, my child, the night is long, The walls of Ithaca will hold you strong, Trust in the hands that have guided you all along.``

I am not looking for anything specific for this one! Only females voices

  • ``Weโ€™ve watched and waited, hidden in shadow, guarding the heart of Ithaca``

  • ``Though the suitors roam, our loyalty remains unshaken, our voices quiet but strong``

  • ``The gold is tempting, and fear binds our hands, yet we whisper where we shouldnโ€™t``

I am looking for male voices, heavy one and probably serious, but nothing too specific.

  • ``Whoever can string the old king's bow And shoot through twelve axes cleanly Will be the new king, sit down at the throne Penelope as his queen Where is he? Where is the man who can string this bow? Oh-whoa``

  • ``Your fate is sealed when your prophecy is read``

Zeus

Zeus (King of the Gods)

Zeusโ€™s voice should carry authority that feels immovable, like thunder rumbling over the stage. He isnโ€™t a character who sings often, but when he does, his presence must dominate โ€” he is less โ€œpersonalโ€ than Athena, more a force of order and fate.

Vocal Quality: Bass or bass-baritone โ€” resonant, booming, almost thunder-like. His lowest notes should feel like the ground shaking.

Tone: Majestic, commanding, detached. Not tender or intimate โ€” when he speaks or sings, itโ€™s law, not guidance.

Range: Strong in the low register, with enough top-end power to soar over a full ensemble if needed. His lines shouldnโ€™t be ornate, but heavy, simple, and monumental.

Style: Recitative-like passages that feel like proclamations, with long, sustained notes (like held thunder). His motifs could echo storm imagery โ€” timpani, brass, and deep strings underscoring him.

  • ``Pride is a damsel in distress... hiding away where only i can undress her..``

  • ``A vision Of what is to come, cannot be outrun Can only be dealt with right here and now Tell me how I don't think you're ready A mission to kill someone's son A foe who won't run Unlike anyone you have faced before``
