This is the beginning of Tales of The Internet, a fan-made project that combines countless pieces of media into one to make a new story.

It all began in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand at the hands of 19-year-old Gavrilo Princip triggered a chain reaction of global alliances. But unlike our history, the Treaty of Versailles was never signed in 1918. Diplomacy failed, and the Great War mutated into the Final Conflict (or more commonly "Final War"): a perpetual, industrial meat grinder destined to last for centuries.

As human soldiers were starting to run out, military engineering created the first armored machines. To solve the logistical nightmare of refueling across devastated territories, engineers fueled the machines directly with the fresh blood of casualties on the battlefield. The world transformed into a permanent hellscape of concrete and smog.

In 1969, facing a now-uninhabitable Earth, humanity sought a desperate escape route. Scientists decided to exploit the first supercomputers to bring an artificial parallel universe to life. Through the first historic and bizarre network connections (such as the first unstable "lo" sent over ARPANET in 1969) and decades of collective testing disguised as commercial simulations (the release of The Sims in 2000), the Internet was finally open for public testing in 2028: a digital paradise where humans could digitalize themselves into... anthropomorphic cookies. Yeah, it was pretty limited, but later in the future people would have had access to more types of characters with no limits of appearance.

The only catch? You can enter, but you can't leave. When a human steps through the digital portal, their physical body isn't left behind in a pod or a capsule. Instead, it is completely dismantled at a molecular level. The portal acts as a mass-to-data converter, translating their biology into pure code.

The original creators of the network, the only ones who could moderate the new world from outside, died in 2048 due to a rocket shot by a Guttertank in the Great War, mistaking the tent they were in as a Gutterman. And so, the bridge between the two realms was gone. No one can enter from the physical world anymore, and those inside are permanently trapped as data, with no physical vessel left to return to.

The first five leaders of the new world (Called "The firsts"), keepers of the precious fragments of power called Life Gems, promised to never break havoc in this digital paradise. And they didn't. But their successors did. They went mad due to corruption. They were banned and trapped in the Beast-Yeast region and remembered as the Five Beasts. In their place, five new heroes (The "Ancients") took the reins of the digital world, ensuring peace while billions of humans and NPC refugees fled the collapse of the real Earth.

Many civilians entered the digital world, occupying every planet of the internet (Called URL)

Peace shattered in 2112 because of Madness, an hell warlord who saw the escape of sinners as the loss of his precious slave labor. Piercing into the internet servers, Madness freed the Five Beasts and led a devastating interdimensional coalition.

This deadly deployment of machines, cake monsters, and ruthless warriors attacked the entirety of the Internet. Despite the five heroes' efforts, the battle proved to be an absolute disaster, interrupted even by bizarre computer glitches that pulled up old 21st-century archive files. One by one, the protectors of the Internet were brutally annihilated.

The Beasts and Madness's coalition ordered the massacre of the survivors and the immediate destruction of the rest of the internet.

URL #RWNsaXBzaWE= (Eclipsia) was the only URL that managed to repel Madness's coalition due to its unique global architecture and thanks to the strength of the Eclipsian Empire. As the strongest nation on the internet, the Eclipsian Empire disoriented the invading machines thanks to their advanced military.

Unfortunately, the rest of the internet fell under a ruthless dictatorship controlled by the Beasts. After Madness seized control of the servers, he hijacked the respawn pipeline. Now, when a character dies, their code is intercepted and dragged down into URL #SGVsbA, Hell. There, they are forced into brutal labor or conscripted into his eternal army. Anyone who actively rebels against his regime inside the simulation faces public execution, where their data is permanently wiped from the entire internet network.

Since the physical world is no longer an option and the original creators of the network "MYSTERIOUSLY" died right before all of this happened, the focus shifts entirely to saving what remains of the digital universe. The Tortellino Warrior, who is chosen once every ten thousand years by the Void Dragon and has the ability to physically liberate the enslaved URL planets and to locate the hidden, shattered fragments of the system's root code and trigger a universe-wide reboot. This reset would completely strip Madness, his coalition, and the Beasts of their stolen administrative privileges, permanently banning them to the deepest quarantine sectors of the net and restoring freedom to the digital civilizations forever.

In 3048, exactly a millennium after the Internet was open to the public, Markus Reaver is born. Consecrated by the cosmic breath of the Dragon as the new Dragon Warrior and trained in martial arts and void magic, Markus is the last hope for the entirety of the internet.

But the darkness of Madness, the Five Beasts, and their deadly allies is too vast for a single warrior.

The prophecy demands the rise of a new generation of heroes, ready to join forces across the fragments of reality and the codes of the simulation for the final showdown:

A Martial Artist.
A kind-hearted emperor.
A Cyborg.
An Engineer.

And a gay guy.

And thus, the fourth generation of protectors of the internet was born: The Reavers.
