Project Overview
Super Wok Explosion! is a wildly surreal animated web-series transporting you into the seedy underbelly of a neon-soaked Chinatown netherworld. The series features ruthless Chinese tongs and triads engaged in transnational organized crime, alongside a group of starry-eyed teenagers drawn into the thrill of the modern criminal lifestyle, complete with drugs, money, parties, and sex!
The story devolves into a dizzying journey through a realm where reality and the occult collide, leaving you wondering what is real and what is not. Tension builds as the naive teenagers and hardened criminals become increasingly entangled, leading to a shocking and tragic finale where friendships are torn apart and power-hungry individuals are pitted against each other in a ruthless pursuit of megalomania.

Rainman is one of the main protagonists of the story, a megalomanic Chinatown gangster with a name that still resonates through the streets of San Delfina Chinatown. A former Wo On Lok triad enforcer, he was sent to prison when he got caught up in a transnational drug manufacturing network years ago. But he’s been caught up in a rivalry between different factions within the triad. When tong leader Richie Rich falls ill, Rainman is plighted to Wo On Lok leader Macau Ronnie, and must take over Chinatown — a place which is a shade of its former glory, subjected to capitalist influences and culturally torn apart. Rainman will take over Chinatown by any means necessary!

[Rainman talks to one of his subordinates. His tone is not hostile or aggressive, but it is threatening in the context. He speaks somewhat monotonously. “收皮啦 (laughs) We make you win, Sid. You become the chairman one way or the other. And we give Chinatown back to the Chinese.”
Macau Ronne is the mysterious and somewhat ethereal background force that pulls the strings behind the scenes. Mostly resides in a foreign country and rarely makes a physical appearance in the show — he can be heard over the telephone or for example as a narrator. The idea behind Macau Ronnie is that he’s a threat with a lot of power, that appears uncalculated and works according to sometimes unfathomable rules; at times like a god where actions are illogical or unpredictable.

“They all clawed at me like some God… Now they decide to turn on me like a pest… Because I threaten their way of life, in their condos. How do we deal with this sort of problem in this business, Tea Worm…? I won’t do that. It’s gonna cost everybody a lot of money, anyway… No… I got a different idea… You know why everybody is afraid of the Mexicans…? They don’t come after you if you wrong them… They come after your family…”
[over the phone] “I’d say run to the far side of the world and then keep on running.”
“茶蟲, I’m also just a passenger to worldly forces of chaos, just like yourself. I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do. Get your stuff and make a run for it. Goodbye.”
Tea Worm is a Chinese businessman that acts like a liaison between Macau Ronnie and the triad’s interests in the United States. He’s high up the ladder, a pragmatist with few morals. He’s more like an accountant type that is ready to do a lot of things for money. But underneath it all, he’s secretly afraid for his family. He wants to find a way out of the criminal underworld, but this ends up biting his tail.
