Sherlock Holmes is a sophisticated, observant, relaxed character, and his voice should reflect this. I am looking for a naturally smooth voice. It can be high, but please not too much higher than average. An average to deep voice would be much preferred.

  • (Bored, almost coming off as contrived) "It is simple. Everything from the scruff on your boots to the slight tearing of your coat."

  • (Careful, deep in thought) "No... That can't be true... If he has possibly done this... Then how come we have evidence that he was in Poland?"

  • (Use a tone and dialect you believe works here. I want to see how you think)

“Quite so. I have a kind of intuition that way. Now and again a case turns up which is a little more complex. Then I have to bustle about and see things with my own eyes. You see I have a lot of special knowledge which I apply to the
problem, and which facilitates matters wonderfully. Those rules of deduction laid down in that article which aroused your scorn, are invaluable to me
in practical work. Observation with me is second nature. You appeared to be surprised when I told you, on our first meeting, that you had come from
    Afghanistan.”

The narrator for most of the novel, Watson is a British army doctor who was injured during the Afghan war. Upon his return to England, he becomes Sherlock Holmes’ roommate and companion. As he will be the narrator, I want the best of the best in his performance. Please give him your all! I also want a voice that is easy on the ears, one that would easily be listened to for hours. If I can't stand your voice for a minute, you are not getting the job... Sorry.

So, please avoid high pitched voices.

  • (Narrating) I had neither kith nor kin in England, and was therefore as free as air—or as free as an income of eleven shillings and sixpence a day will permit
    a man to be.

  • (Trying to explain something)  “Trying to
solve the problem as to whether it is possible to get comfortable rooms at a reasonable price.”

  • (Narrating) On the very day that I had come to this conclusion, I was standing at the Criterion Bar, when someone tapped me on the shoulder and turning
round I recognized young Stamford, who had been a dresser under me at Bart’s. The sight of a friendly
face in the great wilderness of London is a pleasant thing indeed to a lonely man. In old days Stamfordhad has never been a particular crony of mine, but now hailed him with enthusiasm, and he, in his turn, appeared to be delighted to see me. In the exuberance of my joy, I asked him to lunch with me at the Holborn, and we started off together in a hansom.

Role assigned to: Patryk Sokol

The antagonist and murderer of the case Holmesfocuses on during A Study in Scarlet, Hope was originally an adventurous silver prospector

  • “It don't much matter to you why I hated these men, ” (pause) “it’s enough that they were guilty of the death of two human beings — a father and a daughter — and that they had, therefore, forfeited their own lives. After the lapse of time that has passed since their crime, it was impossible for me to secure a conviction against them in any court. I knew of their guilt though, and I determined that I should be judge, jury, and executioner all rolled into one. You’d have done the same, if you have any manhood in you, if you had been in my place.”

  • (Reflecting, making a decision) "It was like the silver I used to see so much of. I was drawn in by the shine and glisten."

Ferrier proves himself to be a loving father and hardworking man, and after assimilating into the Mormon community, amasses a large amount of wealth. Unlike most Mormon men, however, he does not marry, as he views the Mormon practice of polygamy as shameful. He also vows to never let his daughter marry a Mormon. Eventually he is killed by Joseph Stangerson for trying to protect Lucy from a forced Mormon marriage.

  • “My name is John Ferrier, me and that little un are all that’s left o’twenty-one people. The rest is all dead o’ thirst and
hunger away down in the south.”

  • "The hand of God is leading
us under the person of our Prophet. You must come before him. He shall say what is to be done with you.”

Lucy grows up in the Mormon community as a strong and beautiful young woman. Eventually she falls in love with Jefferson Hope, a Gentile who becomes her fiancé. Though the Mormons refuse to allow her to marry a non-Mormon, she and her father escape with Hope. However, after the Mormons recapture her and kill her father, she is forced by the Mormons to become one of Enoch Drebber’s wives. A month after her marriage, Lucy dies, presumably out of grief or a broken heart.

  • “You! Well, I don’t see that it would make much matter to you, anyhow. You ain’t even a friend of ours.”
