Hello voice actors :D

Despite appearances, Return of the Rabbit will be a dark and emotional short film with themes of revenge, death and forgiveness. It fits within the genre of drama and action. This film will be written and directed by me and I will write an original soundtrack for the film too. The film will have an approximate runtime of 10-15 mins.

See the prequel: https://youtu.be/hsJ7sLmuXh4/

Actors need to be cast ASAP. Return of the Rabbit is a passion project as well as my final end-of-school project. Due to there being hard deadlines, lines must be voiced by a certain date. I cannot begin filming until all lines have been voiced as character mannerisms will be based on and timed to your performances.

The script for the film has been fully completed so you will be able to voice your lines as soon as you are cast. Further clarity will be provided in the Discord server.

Due to spoiler reasons please do not mention the existence of or any details about this casting call outside of this website.

You will be credited appropriately with the name you want for the role that you play in the film. Within the YouTube description, I will also be happy to include your social media or portfolio website with your credit.

Synopsis

As The Monkey is afraid to fight, she forms a capable team to steal The Rabbit's healing waters that can cure the dying Godmother's illness. However, it was unbeknownst to them that The Rabbit is twisted and vengeful. He kills some of Monkey's friends but some manage to get away. Due to The Godmother's morals, she refuses to accept a cure that was stolen from someone and so the last few were forced to return the cure to The Rabbit. However, when Godmother shortly passes away and The Monkey goes to join her team, she finds that The Rabbit has killed them out of revenge too. Despite winning the final battle, The Monkey chooses to let The Rabbit go because of The Godmother's last words to her.

Audition Rules

  • Decent Audio: Excessive background noise and headphone mics will not be accepted.

  • Stay Close to Lines: Avoid adding/removing words or replacing words with synonyms.

  • Timing: Avoid rushing and leave some space between full stops and commas.

  • Discord: We will communicate via a dedicated Discord server. This server will have private channels dedicated to each role.

  • References are Starting Points: Any references included are to give you an idea of what I'm looking for. It is not necessary to make your audition an impression.

Important Note

Do not let the appearances of your character impact the way you choose to voice it. Interpret the characters based on their descriptions instead. Despite the urge to voice it like a cartoon, It is important that the acting is grounded and natural as that is the direction I am taking with this film. Some characters will be more emotionally demanding than others. This as well as the approximate amount of lines required to be voiced will be indicated within the description of their roles.

  • Monkey. You know how I feel about the time you waste worrying about me. The life that I have lived has been long and full. Death is not something that I fear.

  • I am so sorry. I cannot accept a stolen cure. No matter how truly little The Rabbit needs this medicine, it is not our place to assume nor decide that we are more deserving of his property. Please, return it back to him.

  • Even the gods stumble and fall. What defines us as people is what we do in the face of our own demons. You must learn to forgive The Rabbit for what he has done but more importantly, you must learn to forgive yourselves.

  • (laughter) You could fight all this time? But you let your friends do the fighting for you. Your friends are dead because of you!

  • (frustrated and in disbelief) Are you done? For someone who is supposedly trying to kill me, you sure do a lot of talking. If you can't do your job, then I will just end this!

  • Hurt your friends? Put them to sleep? (laughter) Monkey, you don't seem to understand. I killed your friends. They are dead! They are never waking up ever again!

The Monkey is the protagonist of the story. She is ignorant of the concept of death and does not comprehend it. Because, of this she is conflicted and confused at Godmother's worsening illness. She is kind and good but naive.  She wants to help The Godmother because she was like a mother to her. However, she does not want to understand that the illness will soon kill her.

The Monkey speaks in a soft and gentle way. Despite having fewer lines, The Monkey will be a challenging role to play. She is an emotionally conflicted character. This emotional conflict can be heard in the way she speaks. As an actor, you will need to be able to convey rage and sadness in certain scenes.
