• A strict, yet deeply loving family man. Before the Yakusoku mission, he had a wife and two young children (middle school-aged). He treats his crew members as his own family, mainly as a coping mechanism for outliving his own. 

• Outwardly level-headed, puts on a brave face for the rest of his crew. Trusts the two mission specialists to uncover the mysteries of the planet they end up landing on. However, as these mysteries unfold, his resolve starts cracking. Has a long conflict with himself as ‘no longer being fit to be commander,’ disappears for weeks on end as further apparitions of himself appear.

• As the story progresses, she begins to burn out and resent the others for being the only person who can ‘put them back together’.

• Motivated by proving herself as the capable and smart woman that she is, due to a past of severe bullying. (Despite the fact that during the main events of the story, her bullies would be long dead.)
