Release - Voice of All
Project Overview
As Wizards of the Coast continues to release their weekly Magic Story updates, it is our goal on the Voice of All podcast to bring these stories to life through audio.
Release is a long, sad tale featuring the long awaited return of Ajani Goldmane! He arrives with a slew of rogues, guards, and even some small children! You can check out this week's story here:

Nashi's mother is only seen in a very short flashback, but she is important nonetheless. A nezumi (ratfolk) woman who is trying to save her son from the slaughter of her village. She manages to get Nashi to safety, but is burned alive herself. These are her only lines.
You're going to run and not look back. No matter what you hear, you run. [desperate]
Go! Run! [pushing her son to run away]
[a scream as she burns alive]
A consulate guard, searching Mrs. Pashiri's apartment for evidence of wrongdoing. Her voice is fairly deep and serious.
"This place is falling apart... The Consuls should knock it down and build over."
"You checked that closet?"
A young soratami child, the tallest of Tamiyo's children. Sadly this is his only line, but he's very excited to see Ajani!
"Ajani's back!"
Nashi is a young nezumi (ratfolk) child, orphaned after his village was burned to the ground. He was taken in by Tamiyo and her family. He is small, weak, and very afraid, but he is learning to be strong,

"Ready or not, here's I come!" [playing hide and seek]
"Tamiyo says when you lose someone, it's like getting hurt. I mean, like when you fall down and get hurt? When you scrape your knee, it's gotta bleed ta get better. And she said that tears are how your heart bleeds. You gotta let them out so's ya get better."
"When I get sad, she sits with me... Maybe I can sit with you?"
A young elf rogue working in the resistance movement. She is agile, smart, and an excellent lifecrafter, which is to say she makes little robot insects. She is perhaps a little too well read, probably far too many fantasy books.
She chose the name "Shadowblayde" (with a Y) as her code name because she thought it sounded cool. She has a tendency of saying aloud the kind of onomatopoeia that you would find in adventure books (like "Harrumph") and is generally very excited and dramatic about everything.
"Came up with it myself, don't you know. I think it sounds terribly dashing." [remarking about her codename]
"No bumble-thumb Consulate inspector could nick the wily Shadowblayde!"
"The Dhund is a headquarters the Consuls built under and through Gonti's market. A maze of tunnels and rooms pieced together. Ducts and sewers and suchlike. They run their spies out of it, and keep important prisoners there. All terribly secret, you understand,"
A young soratami child, the eldest of Tamiyo's children but still very childish and demanding. She is VERY excited to see Ajani!
"Ma-maaaaa! Mister Cat is back!"
"I bet you got stupendulous stories!" [excited!]
"Well he can't leave before stories. That's an ironclad rule, mama. If you get to go have adventures, you gotta tell 'em when you get back." [defiant]
A consulate guard, searching Mrs. Pashiri's apartment for evidence of wrongdoing.
"Of course I checked the closet. Nothing." [slightly annoyed]
"You hear that Rashmi made it into the next round? Doesn't seem to be much use for a vase teleporter." [doubtful]
A young vedalken who is clearly starstruck by Shadowblayde. He is excited to see her, but also wants to respect her. Vedalken speech is typically clipped and brusk. These are his only lines.
"Va—!" [excitedly about to call Shadowblayde's real name "Vatti" before she shushes him]
"Um, yes. Miss Blayde. I mean, Shadow. Ma'am. I'm...glad you're all right." [apologetic for getting the name wrong, but filled with admiration]
"Right away, Miss Blayde!" [excited]
There is a small crowd of individuals gathered outside Mrs. Pashiri's apartment while the guards search at, as people gather when police are doing interesting things. Rather than cast these roles separately, I would request that anyone interested read one or more of these lines. I will cast someone different for each line to get a varied crowd feel.
"...what are they doing...?"
"...been in there a long time..."
"...said the renegades have been setting traps..."
"...papa, when can we go back...?"
"...never seen so many..."
A consulate guard, searching Mrs. Pashiri's apartment for evidence of wrongdoing. He is in charge of the other two and is getting increasingly annoyed they haven't found anything. He instead finds Ajani, who's going to squeeze the answers out of him.
"There has to be something. Some proof. She's stood beside the heart of the movement for over a decade. She couldn't keep all those secrets in her head. Why don't you two...I don't know. Go search the parlor again."
"Was looking. For someone. Set word. We had. Them." [wheezing out an answer as Ajani has him pinned to the wall grasping his throat]
"You're not going to kill me?" [surprised and fearful]
A young soratami child, a cousin of the family. She is also excited to see Ajani, but is more defined by her kindness to young Nashi. These are her only lines.
"Tell us about the dragon again!"
"Come on, Nashi. You can roll rice balls with me." [excited]
Ajani is a healer and a planeswalker. Stalwart and just, he has traveled between worlds seeking to assist those in need, He has recently come to Kaladesh, seeking to bring Tezzeret to justice. I imagine his voice as deep and rumbling, every bit the gentle giant. You can learn more about Ajani in his wiki article here:

Ajani is a major character in the Magic storyline. Should you take this role, you will be asked to reprise it on several occasions.
"No harm will come to you from these hands." [gentle, trying to convince a small child that he, the gigantic cat man with huge fangs and massive claws, will not hurt him]
"To charge rashly into battle, unprepared, is not courage. It is foolishness. It yields only greater death. This is knowledge hard-earned. Please trust it." [low, firm, convincing a young woman that she did the right thing not to charge in and fight when her friend was captured]
"My hero is dead.And all she wanted, all she fought so hard for...was just a home. The simplest thing. The smallest." [deeply sad, grieving for the loss of his dearest friend]
