Petals

Petals

Project Overview

Petals is a dark, atmospheric cult-horror series set in the late 1970s, in the village of Estherwood, Norway, known for its supernatural coexistence between humans and otherworldly beings. Despite this fragile peace, Estherwood is infamous for its brutal 18th-century witch hunts. The show follows Tobias Finch, Oliver Mendoza, Dusty Barrows, and Nari Lee as they uncover the hidden dangers lurking in their town, tracing their roots to a centuries-old curse cast by the last witch executed before a peace treaty was established between humans and supernatural beings.

As strange and sinister events unfold, the curse begins to revive, threatening the town’s precarious balance. Tobias experiences strange sicknesses that worsen over time, drawing him deeper into Estherwood’s cursed history. The show weaves horror with small moments of humor, romance, and familial drama, as the characters navigate their relationships with one another, their own past traumas, and the increasingly dangerous forces encroaching on the town.

This is currently a voluntary position as we work to secure funding for the project. We are passionate about creating a high-quality animated series and are seeking equally passionate individuals to join our team. Once funding is secured, all positions will be compensated.

  • “No, no, I’m good. I’m just… feeling a little… off. Maybe… don’t look at me like that. It’s not a big deal.”

  • “You know what’s funny? My dad and I—we used to be close. Really close. He’d teach me all these things about… planes, trains, whatever. He made it all make sense. Then… then I messed up. And now it’s like there’s this… this wall. And I… I can’t fix it.”

  • “You guys hear that, right? Please tell me I’m not just… losing my mind over here … Right. Okay. Great. So, here’s an idea—how about we don’t go toward the creepy sounds this time? I mean, I’m all for solving mysteries, but I’ve seen enough horror movies to know where this is headed, and spoiler alert: it’s not a happy ending.” (Mutters under his breath) “This is how I die. I’m calling it now.”

  • “Honestly, Tobias, if thinking too hard could kill you, you’d have been a goner years ago. Relax for once, man. You’ve got that look again—the ‘I’m carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders’ look. It’s not a good look on you. Stick to the awkward nerd thing. Suits you better.”

  • (sharp, commanding tone) “Nari, get back! Now! This isn’t like the ghost stories you came here to study. Whatever that thing is, it’s not just here to scare us—it’s here to kill.” (beat, a hint of his usual wit returning) “Trust me, I’ve survived worse. You don’t live this long by being reckless.”

  • “You ever think about how long I’ve been doing this, Tobes? Watching people come and go… It’s easy to make jokes about it, but…you’re different. You… you actually make me want to stick around. That’s new for me.”

  • (bright, eager) “You have no idea how long I’ve waited for this! Estherwood is like… the supernatural capital of the world! Ghosts, curses, vampires—well, okay, you obviously know about vampires.” (laughs lightly, then more serious) “But really, I came all the way here because I wanted to understand it. Not just the stories, but the truth. Why do these things happen? What’s the connection between our world and… theirs?”

  • “Back home… I was always so sure of my faith. Everything was black and white, right and wrong. But now… seeing everything that’s happened here, all the things I can’t explain… I’m not sure what to believe anymore.” (pause, a deep breath) “It’s like everything I thought I knew is… fading. How do you hold on to something when everything around you says it’s not real?”

  • “You’ve lived through it all, haven’t you? Centuries of history, so many stories no one else has seen… That’s what fascinates me the most! The idea that the world has so much more than what people think.” (beat, more serious) “I came all the way here because I believe there’s truth in these myths, Oliver. I’m not scared. I want to understand… all of it.” (slight smile, softening) “…Well, okay, maybe I’m a little scared. But that’s normal, right?”

  • (soft, nostalgic) “Tobias used to follow me around everywhere when he was little. Always asking questions, always tinkering with something. He had this… curiosity, you know? He’d take apart the radio just to see how it worked, then spend the whole day figuring out how to put it back together.” (beat, a soft chuckle) “I remember one time, he fixed a clock that had been broken for years. I was ready to throw the thing out, but he just wouldn’t give up on it.” (with a quiet smile) “He always did have that stubborn streak.”

  • , playful) “So, this is your big plan, huh? Drag me out into the middle of nowhere, get me to relax, and then… what? Convince me to give up medicine and become a full-time artist like you?” (chuckles, then softer) “I have to admit, you’re making a compelling case.” (with a smile) “But I think I’ll leave the sculptures to you. I’m afraid I’d be a disaster with a chisel.”

But don’t worry, I’m here.” (beat, softly, with a smile that doesn’t reach his eyes) “Jeg elsker deg. Let’s just focus on the party, okay?”

  • (nervous, pleading) “Simon, I can’t… I can’t just leave her. Marilyn—she doesn’t deserve this. What would I even say? ‘Oh, by the way, I’ve been in love with a man this entire time?’” (voice shaking slightly) “I don’t know if I can do it… It’s not just us. There’s Adalaide to think about—what if this ruins everything?” (beat, softer) “I want to be with you, I do, but I’m not as brave as you think I am.”

  • (lovingly exasperated, calming her down) “Adalaide, ro deg ned! Slow down, please!” (beat, soft smile) “I know you’re excited, but pappa har sagt det før—that part of the house is not safe. We’re not using it for the party, okay? Altfor farlig. It’s too dangerous.” (laughs gently, leaning down to her level) “Don’t worry, we’ll make the rest of the house just as spooky, I promise.”

We’ve always been so good at talking, haven’t we? Whatever it is, we can figure it out.“

  • (loving, playful) “You always get that look when you’re thinking about your next project, don’t you? All focused, lost in thought. But don’t think I’m going to let you disappear into your studio tonight, mister. Not when we finally have a quiet evening together.” (laughs lightly, teasing) “I don’t get enough time with you these days, and I’m not letting you slip away that easily.”

  • (reassuring, motherly) “Oh sweetheart, what’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost!” (chuckles softly, then soothes) “There’s nothing to be afraid of, darling. • (soft, loving tone) “Papa, why are you so quiet? You’re always working on your sculptures, but you never tell me what they’re for. Even secrets.”
