Paws of Stars Book 1 : Rising Tides
Project Overview
Paws of Stars Audiobook
Paws of Stars is a 7 book rewrite fanfic of the Power of Three and Omen of the Stars arcs of Warrior Cats currently being written by Sunnyfall. Jayfeather, Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, Dovewing, and Ivypool will all have difficult lives as they struggle to find themselves among the threats of powers, prophecies, and darkness outside and within.
Format of the Series
Paws of Stars is a fanfic series that I, Sunnyfall, have been writing since January 2020. Seven books are planned and five of them have already been published. My intention with this call is to begin work on a parallel project, where I release fully voice-acted versions of the books with one chapter per video, and perhaps some accompanying art in the background. The episodes of this series will be released to my Youtube channel, Sunnyfall, without monetization.
I am looking for voice actors to fill out part of the large cast of the first book in this series (Rising Tides) along with any artists that may be interested in doing a piece for the background. Keep in mind that this is a casting call for the first three chapters only. I will release additional casting calls further down the line when I am prepared to cast characters for subsequent chapters and books. The series has a lot of characters
This series is and always has been entirely volunteer-based. I have never previously earned money from writing Paws of Stars, and I don't expect to make any money in the future, since the project is based on a different franchise.
Audition Requirements
If you would like to contribute to the project in any way, you must meet these requirements:
Be 16 years or older by the deadline of the casting call. There won't be payment involved but I wouldn't feel comfortable asking for continuous work from someone under this age.
Have a discord account. This is where all communications regarding the series will take place.
Be willing to donate your work to the project. You will of course be credited for your work, but because we will be working with a fanfiction of an existing IP, I won't be able to monetize the videos, so no profit will be made, for me or any other members of the team.
After any episode’s release, you are free to share your part in it wherever you like, but do not leak materials beforehand without permission.
Get your audition in before the deadline of September 17th, 2022. I would like to choose a cast and begin work on the first episode soon after, so no auditions will be accepted past the deadline.
Casting Call
My primary goal with this casting call is finding enough voice actors to fill out the rather large cast that the story needs. Most of these characters will only be needed for certain chapters, but I would like to have as many distinct voices involved as is possible. If you’d like to audition to be a voice actor, keep these points in mind:
Record in a quiet space with the best microphone you have. You don’t need to have professional-quality audio but make sure I can hear you and that noticeable voices, static, or bangs don’t occur in the background.
Do not add any effects to your lines before you submit them. Cleanup is fine if you know how to do it, but don’t alter the pitch, echo, or any other such thing to make your voice sound different.
All accents are welcome! As long as I can understand what you are saying, you don’t have to speak in any specific accent to be accepted.
You must be able to work on a deadline. I will do my best to give at minimum 2-3 weeks of notice when lines are due, but the schedule of the series will depend on everyone involved staying on time. If there are other circumstances preventing you from getting your lines done on time, you may talk to me and I will do my best to accommodate.
Keep in mind that some of these characters will grow up over the series, from kits to apprentices and warriors. If you are interested in a role like this, record the line multiple times with different voices for a younger and older version of the character. I may pick one or two voice actors for any of these characters.
Protagonists, or POV (Point-of-View) characters will have more work than the average character’s voice actor, as they will have the majority of the lines in any chapter they are the point of view of and will also have to voice some of their thoughts about the situations they are in. Know if you are cast as one of these characters, there will be more work for you.
Lastly, feel free to audition for as many characters as you want! With a cast of 35 for even these first early chapters, there are plenty of characters to go around, and more will be added soon enough. It is almost guaranteed that I will eventually end up cast multiple characters to a single person, especially considering that several of the characters will have five or less lines. As long as you have a voice that you think fits a certain character, you are welcome to turn that audition in.
Artists
This an entirely optional role. Art is valuable and if there is no one who would like to do a piece for Paws of Stars in general or any specific chapter of the series, I have a backup option with no added visuals. However, if you are interested in doing some art for the series, I would be very grateful. In that case, this is all you should do:
Be a digital artist. Traditional art is difficult to photograph or scan in without glare removing detail or polish from the piece.
Have drawn cats before, and be comfortable drawing them. To demonstrate this, the portfolio you turn in should have multiple pieces of cat art specifically.
Be comfortable drawing cats in different poses and with specific designs. While the series will not have one unified style, I would like instances of the same character by different artists to keep the same design.
Turn in a portfolio of art with at least 3 pieces so that I may see what work you’ve done before. When you submit your audition, add a link to a DeviantArt, Twitter, Tumblr, or other account on which you have your art so that I may see it. You may also send in a google drive link with your art uploaded manually, but in this case make absolutely sure that the link you’re sending in allows me to view it without asking you for access.
Keep in mind that I would ideally have multiple artists, and only two or three drawings needed for each episode, depending on the number of scenes. If you are accepted but don’t have time for or don’t want to do art for a particular video, this is absolutely fine. You are under no obligation to do any particular piece.
If you do take on a piece for an episode, be able to work on a deadline. I will do my best to give at minimum 2-3 weeks of notice before a piece of art is due, but the schedule of the series will depend on everyone involved staying on time. If there are other circumstances preventing you from getting an art piece you are handling done in time, you may talk to me and I will do my best to accommodate.
Good luck, and thank you so much for the support!

Lionkit/paw/blaze is one of the five main characters in the series and one of only two that is a main character for all seven books. He will go from a young child to a full adult over the course of the series and will need to show a wide emotional range. He is a character who wears his heart on his sleeve, for better or worse, and can't help feeling extremely sappy, bored, or furious when situations prick at his emotions in different ways.
(Taunting, Annoyed) "You'll be lucky to win at all!"
(Loving, Longing) "I wish you were in Thunderclan..."
(Furious, Out of Control) "Get out of my way!"
Hollykit/paw/leaf is one of the five main characters of the series, and will grow from a child into a full adult over the course of that time, but she isn't in prominence for the whole series. That said, she has what might be the largest emotional range demands of anyone in the cast, as she goes from a strict, prickly, and bossy demeanor to unsure of herself to flat-out breaking emotionally and having a mental crisis. Her emotional journey through the series is the most clear and in-the-open, so the actor needs to be able to portray that.
(Strict, Uppity) "We must stick to the code. And it says us leaving camp right now is forbidden."
(Disbelief, Worried) "Would cats really be scared of me? ...Maybe."
(Angry, Certain) "Everything you have been told about us is a lie. We are not the kits of Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight!"
Firestar is the leader of Thunderclan for the series, and has already been leader for several seasons by the time it begins. Most of his role is as a strong, nurturing figure, but he also has his own struggles with some of the leaders of other clans and the cats he leads.
(Ceremonial, Calling) "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath the highledge for a clan meeting!"
(Defensive, Insistent) "We're not cowards. But why should we fight pointless battles to prove it?"
(Wise, Nurturing, Mild Worry) "Just be careful–your powers set you apart from other cats, but you are still members of this clan, bound by the warrior code for as long as that stands."
Cinderpaw/heart is one of the best friends and closest contacts for all three of the first main characters. Se will grow up from a child to a full adult over the course of the series. She mainly acts as a support to them, but also has her own physical and emotional journeys to go through with her injury and reactions to Hollyleaf's actions.
(Comforting, Understanding) "I'm sure every cat has missed a squirrel at one time or another."
(Frustrated, Despairing) "My stupid leg gave way! And now I've failed my assessment!"
(Firm, Worried) "We need to talk. You're upset. I could tell during the ceremony...before you ran off, anyway."
Brightheart is a supporting character in the series, acting consistently as a calm and understanding senior warrior who shines especially in her brief mentorship of Jaypaw and later working as another cat's mentor and in a growing arc in the background across the later books. She needs to be able to display a quiet sort of strength and more contained emotions that will slowly build as the series goes on.
(Determined Through Own Pain) "This is why I asked for him to be made my apprentice. I won't let him give up."
(Defensive, Aggravated) "We gave up nothing but a piece of barren land that was too close to Twoleg territory!"
(Resolute, Kind, Mildly Disappointed) "It's all right. You don't have to make allowances for me. I don't intend to get in your way."
Brackenfur is the stalwart, quiet deputy of the clan. Brambleclaw, in this universe, stepped down after the incident with Hawkfrost and Firestar, so Brackenfur was named as deputy in his place. He also needs to be able to express subtle frustration and grief while maintaining his general calm, quiet demeanor.
(Angry, Built-Up Frustration) "You were supposed to be my mentor! But if it wasn't for Firestar being able to train me, I might not have become a warrior at all!"
(Musing, Casual) "We need to expand the warriors' den before the other apprentices become warriors. It's already too crowded."
(Sympathetic, Comforting) "You two were close. Who could blame you for wanting to stay that way?"
Ashfur is a prickly and jealous character for much of the series until he becomes an outright antagonist for our main characters and their family. The actor for him needs to be able to portray wild, unstable emotions as well as barely-held-back distaste.
(Sarcastic, Impatient) "A bad dream? Oh I'm sorry. Dreams are a perfectly good reason to be late for training."
(Frantic, Furious) "Upset? I'm not upset. You have no idea how much pain I'm in! It's like being cut open every day, bleeding onto the stones. I can't understand how any of you fail to see the blood!"
(Smug, Fearless, Prodding) "There's one way you could stop me, you know. You could kill me, and show the clan what kind of cat you are."
Berrynose is a smug, self-centered tom who can be quite abrasive and condescending, especially to Lionblaze. He will grow up from a child to a full adult over the course of the series. He also serves as the mate to Honeyfern and, later, Poppyfrost, a role which gives him significantly more chances to show his depth and choose his future.
(Smug, confident, condescending) "Don't you worry, Lionpaw. I can protect you from those big, scary cats. Just stand back and watch a real warrior show you how it's done!"
(Angry, Lashing Out) "Well then stop acting like a stupid kit!"
(Soft, loving) "We'll have kits like that one day."
Spiderleg is a hot-headed and outspoken warrior who is often one of the first to comment on any inter-clan matters or ask to join patrols to take the other clans down. But he also has an arc about his difficulties being a mate and father to Daisy and her second litter of kits, so a level of vulnerability in addition to the aggression is required here.
(Angry, Riling Cats Up) "Was it wise to stand before all the clans and announce that Thunderclan can no longer defend its boundaries?"
(Uncomfortable, sick) "It's not that I'm not interested...I just know you'll do a great job of raising them without me."
(Vulnerable, Scared) "I don't know what to do around them! I can't-" (coughs)
Hazeltail is a level-headed warrior and a good friend of Hollyleaf's, along with Cinderheart and Icecloud. She will grow up from a child to a full adult over the course of the series. She becomes much more guarded over time to cats who she isn't already close to due to some breaches of trust, and as much as she tries to act hardened or emotionless, her true hurt shines through as easily as her love does.
(Confused, Mildly Worried) "Oh, we marked it. But the whole time, those three were chattering like starlings. It was...unnerving, to say the least."
(Worried, Uniquely Vulnerable) "I am meant to be the teacher now. If I still need help, perhaps it would reflect badly on Dustpelt's training of me, which is the last thing I would want."
(Dark, Guarded, Protective) "Whatever you're going through, I am sorry. But she's hurting a lot just watching you. Do whatever you need to: talk to someone, get some rest, go out for a run under the stars, but get better. Cats get hurt when you try to deal with things alone."
Sandstorm is Firestar's mate and one of the most respected and talented warriors in the clan. She has plenty of experience, compassion, and a connection with various cats and groups that makes her a good voice of reason and sometimes mentor. That said, she also still has a bit of the hothead from her youth and isn't afraid of criticizing an idea or cat she doesn't agree with.
(Angry, Prodding) "They're stealing our food! Don't you fight anymore?"
(Mildly Annoyed, Protective) "Whitewing is much older than you, and frankly has done far more for the clan so far. Don't forget she could have become a warrior sooner if she weren't waiting for you."
(Wise, Warning) "Hold on a moment. We shouldn't go rushing into danger; these stones might fall and block us in."
In addition to being the father of the future main characters and the mentor of Cinderheart, Birchfall is tom who does poorly in many of the skills that make up a warrior's life, so he often clings to the strongest or most confident cats around him, namely his mate, Whitewing, his friend, Berrynose, and eventually, some cats from the largest antagonist group of the series.
(Frantic, Panicked) "No!! Cinderpaw? Cinderpaw!"
(Desperate, Hopeful) "Wait, shouldn't I go with Cinderheart? I was her mentor, and then Lionblaze could hunt with his father."
(Excited, Longing) "I don't think we've had a proper conversation since the days of the great journey!"
Mousefur is the most consistent elder throughout the series, and one of the oldest cats in the clan. She can be a bit grumpy at times, but also must be capable of expressing immense grief and some depression.
(Grumpy, Annoyed) "Does that mean we'll have him scrambling around the den until sunhigh? I was hoping to get some sleep."
(Impressed, amused) "I see Brightheart is going to have her paws full."
(Grieving, Guilty) "This is my fault! I should be buried under there!"
In addition to being the mother of future protagonists of the series, Whitewing is a strong and loyal, respected warrior in the clan. She is steady and capable of leaning more into her material or clan-protective sides.
(Certain, Resolute) "Exactly. Windclan territory is too close to ours for us to ignore this."
(Unconvinced, pitying) "Is he ready for this?"
(Firm, maternal) "You're both a long way from fine. I'm not going to ask what's wrong, if you don't want to tell me. But remember that I'm your mother. Nothing you say could ever shock me or make me love you any less."
Daisy is a sweet former barn cat and one of two nursery queens in the clan. In addition to acting as a maternal figure to many and an actual mother to Hazeltail, Berrynose, Mousewhisker, Toadstep, and Rosepetal, Daisy has a couple of arcs about her relationships with some of her kits and her stilted romance with Spiderleg. More often than not, though, she is a wise figure relied on for advice in matters of the family.
(Firm, Still Loving) "No. I won't have you getting a stomach ache. Only warm food for you."
(Disbelief, Overwhelming Grief) "My kits...my precious kits. I'm so sorry..."
(Angry, Heartbroken, Lashing Out More Than Normal) "I've already lost my kit. Toadkit and Rosekit need their father! It's a wonder they even remember you, considering how little you even glance towards the nursery."
Cloudtail is a pretty goofy warrior, though his age has mellowed him out significantly in comparison to when he was Firestar's apprentice. Now he mainly serves as Poppyfrost's mentor and Brightheart's dutiful and caring mate.
(Mildly offended, Probing kits) "I am perfectly capable of giving you a badger ride. If you can catch me first, that is!"
(Teasing, Optimistic) "You hear that, Brightheart? We're second on his list!"
(Serious, Defensive) "My family would never lie!"
As Brackenfur's mate, Leafpool's old friend, and the mother of Cinderheart, Poppyfrost, and Honeyfern, Sorreltail is a kind and well-respected she-cat in the clans.
(Worried, Grieving, Trusting) "I know you will. You always put your clan first."
(Pride, Joy, Optimism) "I can't wait to hunt with my kits when they're warriors."
(Grieving, Strong, Determined) "There's nothing I could tell him that I haven't told him before. I will see him again."
Ferncloud is Dustpelt's mate, Ashfur's brother, the mother of Icecloud and Foxleap along with Birchfall and Spiderleg, and one of the two permanent nursery queens in the series. She is more prickly and firm than Daisy, having seen just about every kind of shenanigans a kit could pull, but she is still ultimately knd and forgiving, and an especially good shoulder to lean on for any cat who may seek her advice.
(Maternal, Prodding) "Are you three going to play outside?"
(Shaking, Grieving, Fearful) "Maybe a rogue found him?"
(Teasing, Dramatic) "If you're so old, what would that make us, Daisy?"
Willowshine is the younger of the two Riverclan medicine cats and a friend to Hollyleaf, along with being a somewhat-reluctant acquaintance of Jayfeather. She will grow up from a teenager to a full adult over the course of the series.
(Solemn) "I dreamt that clouds were streaming across the sky, flowing and tumbling across the blue."
(Comforting) "The warrior code says you're allowed to have friendship with cats outside your clan, as long as your loyalty stays with your clan. And I'm a medicine cat. I'm friendly with plenty of cats outside my clan."
(Annoyed) "That's okay. Next time I hope you fall in!"
Mousewhisker is one of Daisy's three kits brought from the horseplace, and is easily the most carefree and teasing one amongst his siblings. He will grow up from a child to a full adult over the course of the series. He has little care for the borders and traditions of the clans, leading him into a friendship with Minnowtail of Riverclan as well as into the clutches of the arc's antagonists.
(Embarrassed, Defensive) "She's the Shadowclan deputy! I couldn't just ignore her!"
(Fumbling Over Words, Hiding Excitement) "It's just, I've always wanted to learn to swim, for fun! And you know how to now so-"
(Correcting, Carefree) "I know I said I've been here for a long time, but it was really just us four. I don't know many more cats here than you do."
Honeyfern is a pretty and somewhat dramatic she-cat, the sister of Poppyfrost and Cinderheart. She will grow up from a child to a full adult over the course of the series, and from early into their apprenticeships she and Berrynose have a close, sappy relationship that turns into them being mates. She can be pretty sappy and emotional herself even independent of Berrynose, but when they're together it's especially intense.
(Worried, Audibly Fearful) "She's in her nest. I can't tell if she's awake."
(Gossiping) "Who cares if it makes sense? Onestar is convinced it's the truth. There's going to be a huge battle. Leafpool said so."
(Eager, Modest) "You really think he would share a meal with me?"
Longtail is the second elder for much of the series, and one of Mousefur's closest friends. He chose to retire earlier than normal due to blindness caused by infected rabbit scratches, and so has a lighter, younger energy than the grumpy old she-cat.
(Humorous) "I wasn't referring to your sight. I meant your attitude."
(Thankful, Calm) "Thanks, Jaypaw. Could you check my pad too? I think it got scraped on the halfrock when I went to catch some sunlight the other day."
(Urgent, Fearful) "We need to go now!"
Mothwing is the older of the two medicine cats in Riverclan, and she does not believe in Starclan, the warrior ancestors that are supposed to communicate with the clans through the medicine cats. She is a wise healer despite that, though, and a good friend to Leafpool.
(Pride, Love) "You have earned your name. This is nothing but what you deserve."
(Casual, Apologetic) "Sorry, we got held up. Petalkit got a thorn in her eye."
(Confessing, Very Worried) "I don't know what we can do for her. I've never seen a sickness like this."
Thunderstar is the first leader of Thunderclan, once known as just Thunder. He is one of the main characters in Dawn of the Clans, but for the purposes of this series, him and his story are only lightly touched on.
(Upset, Both Angry and Guilty) "The clans didn't just forget him! Even we may never see him again!"
(Wise, Trying to Convince) "Wouldn't they be more likely to fall on the side of right if we guide them?"
Shadowstar was the first leader of Shadowclan, once known as Tall Shadow. She is a prominent character in Dawn of the Clans, but for the purposes of this series she and her story are only lightly touched on.
(Annoyed, Serious) "You could swim whenever you like. Whatever we see tonight may change the course of the clans forever."
(Mixed Guilt And Certainty) "I knew him too. Maybe it's best that history forgot him."
Windstar is the first leader of Windclan, once known as Wind Runner. She was a prominent character in Dawn of the Clans but for the purposes of this series, she and her story are only lightly touched upon.
(Prickly, Serious) "We were called here for something important, which is why we need to stop chattering like blackbirds so we don't miss it."
(Insistent, Mild Worry) "We have no idea what the kits will be like or what they will use their powers for. We can't tell them anything until we know who's side they're on."
Skywatcher was the last member of the old Skyclan descendants to stay in the gorge, and helped Firestar and Sandstorm rebuild the clan just as he died. He is also the one who passed on the prophecy that grounds this arc, so the actor needs to speak the famous words with a level of wisdom and clarity.
(Ancient, Powerful) "There will be three, kin of your kin, who will hold the power of the stars in their paws."
If you have a portfolio you would like to send in and you would be interested in sometimes (on a case by case basis of your choice) drawing a scene for the backgrounds of the audiobook videos, you can add it here! I'd be happy to have any help you'd be willing to give.
