NKS Fandubbing Group: Your Turn to Die!
Project Overview
Hello, I'm Kae from the youtube channel known as nakaeshima! The subsection of my channel that focuses on dubbing fanmade/anthology comics is a group known as DanganDubs or D2 . I have decided to expand this group to include characters and comics from franchises other than Danganronpa. This group will be differentiated using the name 'Nakaestudios' (logo still a wip). Everyone involved will be properly credited for any & all work they put into the group.
I'm looking for realism, expression, and range in these auditions (+an acceptable level of mic quality). I am not looking for imitations of the 'official' English VA's when it comes to danganronpa characters. Make sure you're able to follow and keep deadlines. You are of course free/encouraged to share your ideas and opinions with the rest of the group. Everyone has the ability to pitch comics they'd like to voice/produce, as well. I can't find all of them by myself, after all!
In the case of 'Your Turn to Die', I am planning for the group to dub the official manga as well as fanmade comics. There are major and minor spoilers included in the characters' lines/descriptions. I cannot guarantee that certain roles will receive as much attention, simply due to lack of comics; however, we will do our best to give everyone their time to shine!
If you are cast, there will be resources provided such as pronunciation guides & manga pages, with and without color-coded lines.
Expectations for Voice Actors
- You must include at least 2-3 takes of each line (different inflections give editors more room to work with)
- You must be able to pronounce names & Japanese nouns correctly (Please do your research!)
- You must turn your appropriately named audio in to the provided google drive foler, on or before the specified due date.
- Typically, fanmade comics have a two-week deadline, and anthology comics have a three-week deadline.
- If you are in need of an extension for whatever reason, you must privately message Kae (me) before the due date (except in cases of emergency, of course).
Expectations for All Members (Cast & Crew)
- Please keep in contact with the group and let us know if you have any issues with recording/your schedule/the group/etc.
- In general, just keep an eye out for comics we may be able to dub. I'm having a difficult time in finding fanmade YTTD comics in particular, Also keep in mind we will need to obtain the artist's permission. If we do not, for whatever reason it may be, we will not be able to dub the comic.
- And finally, you must follow the rules of the server itself, of course. Most of the rules can be summed up with: If you are unable to follow the golden rule, you will be removed from the server and/or the project itself. Treat others how you want to be treated. I want this to be a positive environment above all else.
- And of course, if you are racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, a 'truscum', a TERF, a "MAP", a white supremacist, or you support any of these "mindsets", you are not welcome here. I don't mean this in a 'you cannot have any bias or have made any mistakes in your life whatsoever' way; I understand that society deliberately warps the way minorities are perceived. What I do mean is you cannot purposefully resort to behaving in accordance with these mindsets. And rest assured, if anyone feels the need to address anyone's behavior, you are more than welcome to ask a mod to step in for you (in the event where we don't catch on to the problem or simply miss the message(s) altogether).
Anyone is free to join the channel's discord server, but those cast/accepted will be required to join.
Thank you for your interest in this project, and break a leg!
Keiji is shown to be pretty casual and level-headed during the Death Game, though he comes off as shady to some of the participants. He usually refers to himself as "the friendly policeman" in an effort to establish himself as trustworthy and makes a pretense of being less cunning than he really is.
He's observant and canny and is quite good at reading other people and knows when to speak up and when to leave them be.
He's also encouraging and gentle with the younger participants, making it his job to at least keep watch over Gin.
To go more in-depth on his voice:
Keiji is a difficult one, for sure. His voice should be on the lower side, but not all the way down in the basement. He usually comes across as easygoing/laid-back, the kind of guy who would lean back in a chair with his hands folded behind his head as he spouts some nonchalant comment. And he’s definitely the teasing type.
However, when he gets serious, you can feel the shift in him. The tone of his voice hardens, sometimes taking on a grim or defeated undertone, depending on the context. He has no romantic feelings for Sara or vice versa and you can fight me (NKS director) on this. His teasing is more of a fatherly-type; y’know, guys who embarrass their kids by talking about how they’re so ‘cute’? That’s his vibe. Throughout the game, he develops a protective (yet encouraging) attitude towards his friends, especially Sara and Gin. He looks out for them while at the same time recognizing they are both very capable people in their own ways.
//spoilers// Keiji seems untrustworthy, or perhaps too good to be true, in the beginning. Later, it’s revealed to us that he has been battling his own demons for years now. He doesn’t say much about himself, even to Sara; not because he doesn’t trust the people around him, but because he does not trust himself. I don’t think it would be wrong to say that he may despise himself, but he hardly ever shows it. When he does show it, he gets this look on his face, like he’s cursed to be haunted forever… So ofc his tone would shift even further during those moments.
A very good comparison/example would be Yuichi Nakamura’s voice. If you're interested in looking into his work, some good examples may be Yoshiki Kishinuma from Corpse Party, Guren Ichinose from Owari no Seraph, or Kyohei Kadota from Durarara!
"Huh? Did I not introduce myself? My name's Keiji Shinogi. Workin' as a policeman."
[He is teasing, but says this with a straight face] "'Cause you're cute." [...] "Didn't expect you to react to a compliment with such a dubious look."
"You got it. So don't trouble your friendly policeman... Well... Not that I'm really that sort of cop."
"You've come this far without a break... You, at least, deserve to sleep."
"...Hoo boy. Hurts to see you make that face, Sara."
[voluntarily sharing personal info, which is rare for him] Yeah, sure enough… this must be the ‘place of memories’ for your friendly policeman. If we need memories… guess I gotta tell you know. You remember the story I told you about why I wanted to be a policeman…?
Haha… never thought the day would come I’d tell that to somebody… Maybe I wanted you to know about it, Sara…
"Well shucks... You too, huh, Sara? ...You can't... acknowledge the hallucinations. Once they're burned into your brain... ...Don't end up like Mr. Policeman."
"...I'm a killer. Not even permitted... to be judged by the law... A true piece of shit... burdened with my sin for life."
[He is presented with the gun he was manipulated into using, which killed the person he admired] This is…! Guh…!! It’s my… Why… do you have the one from…?!
[losing it] Haha… Wahahahaha… I see… so that’s it… … ...I’ll kill you. I… am going to KILL you…!!
Nao is initially timid and shy and primarily stays with her teacher Professor Mishima, whom she idolizes to the extent of wanting to stand in anyone's way if they say negative things about him.
However, throughout the game, she gains immense mental strength and displays that she is no longer easily manipulated.
To go more in-depth on her voice:
Nao is hard to put into words. Yes, she is a sweet and kind person, but that’s not the 'be-all end-all'. I would say that she’s easily flustered; and not necessarily in a ‘romantic’ way. For example; when she says “There’s nothing guilty about us!” she’s flustered/awkward, and in her haste to prove her trustworthiness, she says something that actually makes her seem more suspicious. What I need for Nao’s voice is earnestness. She can be awkward and can say things she doesn’t mean to say in her panic, but something about it is endearing. And when she’s talking about something she’s passionate about, she really shines. Her earnestness is so genuine that any doubts you may have fade away. Plus, she’s also very expressive. Don’t tone down any of her reactions. She’s not on, say, Ibuki’s (SDR2) level, but she comes pretty close.
And ofc she genuinely admires, respects, and even loves (NOT romo) her Professor. It’s very likely that she decided to be an artist because of his class (or, more precisely, that she obtains the confidence to do so from him).
//spoilers?// his death is absolutely devastating to her. Her actions after that scene are completely understandable; she's just lost one of the most important people in her life.
And finally, on a more pleasant note, she’s definitely wlw.
"You truly don't have any right to say that! Apologize to the professor, please!"
"I'll introduce myself! There's nothing guilty about us! I-I'm a former student of Professor Mishima's! Currently at an art college! My name is Nao Egokoro! It's thanks to Professor Mishima that I attend an art college now!"
[To emphasize how much she trusts Sara] "But Sara... Why, I wouldn't even be opposed if we traded our own clothes!"
"The professor's a good person! Please believe me! Saraaaaa!"
"My memory of being brought here… Sorry… It’s the same story as the professor’s. I lost consciousness in the car at a security checkpoint… Other than that… About all I remember is the First Trial. "
"No more... You don't... have to shoulder any more, Sara...!"
"Professor... Professor... This is... Just a lie, right? Professor... Please.... Please get up... You can't do this, everyone's worried... Professor?"
"...That's right... Of course... I kept questioning him... In the dark... But the professor... Didn't say a word... No matter how busy he was, the professor I knew... Always answered my questions with a smile..."
Joe is an extremely upbeat, excitable, considerate and loyal person. He is easily embarrassed when others misinterpret him and is sensitive to how people perceive his appearance. Like Sara, Joe puts in all his efforts to help the group succeed in the puzzles. He consistently convinces the group to believe in Sara and her abilities and generally places most of his trust to her. Though he is described as gaudy by Reko Yabusame and has a small habit of saying the wrong things at the wrong time, Joe is genuinely kind hearted and sensitive to others' feelings.
Although not academically one of the smartest in the group, he does provide occasional insight, such as his suggestion of a traitor among the participants. Despite that, Joe wants to find and believe in the good in others, even as he has his own doubts.
To go more in-depth on his voice:
Jou is the epitome of Best Friend characters. He teases and gets teased, he cares about his friends an incredible amount, he’s just. Perfect. I can’t even describe him, he's just. Best Boy.
His voice should be warm and inviting, he needs to sound genuine. Even when he’s scared or upset, he tries his very best to put on a good face & ease the feelings of those around him. He’s a bit awkward, he’s very ‘innocent’ (he thinks people/guys[?] who kiss on the first date are monsters), and he is always looking out for the people closest to him & doing whatever he can to support them, especially in their moments of weakness. He may not think he’s the smartest or coolest kid in class; in fact, he sees himself as a ‘class clown’. But he’s very observant, he picks up on people’s feelings, and he wants to believe the best in people. He is the kind of friend who would go to the ends of the Earth for you, and you would do the same for him.
"Whatcha doin', Sara? [...] You stuck around this late for clubs?! I was gonna wither up from waiting!"
"Me and Sara are high school classmates. Sara was being harassed by a stalker, so I went home with her that day. Then there was an incident, so I called the police, but… I heard Sara screaming, so I ran upstairs. And there stood that damn stalker! [...] So, I worked up all my courage to punch the guy. ‘Course, I’m awful at fighting, so… Since I don’t remember winning, I’m guessing I lost. That’s why… I know that stalker is the culprit in this case."
"...Me, I can't think there's someone siding with the kidnappers among that bunch."
"Do you remember that time you tried to sit on a traffic cone and fell on your butt?! I couldn't stop laughing!"
"Ryoko and me made an agreement. 'If anyone makes Sara cry, we'll make them cry!' So, like... Stop lookin' like you're on the verge of tears."
"Haha... Ha.... Well... what to say... Guys... Sorry... for tricking you..."
"Sara, you didn't vote for me... That's what made it clear. All of you guys... are my friends. So... work together and do your best. Last... There's something I wanna say. Sure enough... It's hard for a guy and a girl to say this sorta stuff to each other, huh...? I love ya', Sara! You're my best friend!"
Although Miley is called "The Laughing Doll", she isn't as friendly as her name seems to hint. Miley is sadistic; enjoys seeing the participants in the death game suffer, and even goes as far to torment them by dangling hope before crushing it. She enjoys toying with their despair as the participants start questioning their chances of survival. Miley also has her own plans and agenda, dropping valuable clues to Sara even as she mocks her. She doesn't care about Sara personally, but she derives amusement in seeing how she and the other participants will react to unexpected information.
Miley's original Japanese name, "ホエミー, Hoemī" is a pun on ほえみ, 'Hoemi' literally means "small smile." VGperson named her Sue Miley in their translation to make up for the pun; as in 'smiley'.
To go more in-depth on her voice:
Miley has a very distinctive ‘queen of darkness’ kind of vibe. She is somewhat similar to Junko (Danganronpa), but Junko is much more wild (and ofc her personality is constantly changing). Miley is cruel to the end (see the end of Ranger’s assessment), I’d probably use the word ‘bloodthirsty’ to describe her, even if she isn’t necessarily violent. Above all, the phrase to keep in mind is 'sickeningly sweet'. That is the most effective description I could possibly give for her character & voice.
You know how in certain shows, especially anime, there will be scenes of the villainess in a dark place, slowly revealed to be doing something atrocious whilst a music box plays over an ominous quivering in the air? That’s her. That’s Miley.
Examples I can think off of the top of my head would be… Medusa/Arachne from Soul Eater, Nui Harime from Kill la Kill, Lust from FMA; and then, actually, I’d say Miley is more similar to Celes (DR) than Junko. The both share the same regal ‘dark’ aura, and Celes’ breakdown in her trial could be compared to Miley’s anger after being hit by Kai. Miley does have more malicious intentions than Celes does, though.
"It's not poison gas, everyone, so, please relax. Ahaha. Good day. Heeheehee... Yes, I am the doll that you just rescued. Advanced, am I not? Ahaha. As it, happens, I have revived to tell you what is happening, and support you through the trials and tribulations to come."
"Heehee. My name is Sue Miley, the laughing doll. I am the doll who will guide you on this floor. Ehee. My master has instructed me to guide you brave souls, who have already overcome several trials, to the main game."
"Eheehee... Everyone... How are you feeling? Allow me to thank you, truly, for taking part in the main game."
"Yes, yes, it's over already. Eheehee. Kai Satou, chosen by vote, will be the main event. Whereas you're the opening act. Hurry up and die. Come, wrigglers!"
Being a little odd, Mishima often puffs mad scientist laughs after sentences, and his emotions often conflict with his appearance. Mishima seems to enjoy acting strange to amuse others, behaving cryptic and overly analytical of everyone's actions. His unusual social quirks aside, Mishima makes it clear he has no ill intentions and frequently reminds others to be safe and cautious. Despite appearances, Mishima is an incredibly kind, caring and encouraging person. Aside from Nao, he also shows great concern for Kanna and even helps to spur her onward towards hope, albeit by lying about the circumstances of the first trial.
Mishima's voice... just…. He’s a lot. I don’t want him to be ONLY a mad scientist, he is a very kind and compassionate person. Just… really dig deep for his emotions especially when it comes to Nao and the events leading up to his death. And then have fun with his voice, however you choose to do it!
"Stupendous! A level-headed child who does as his parents teach him! Yet, this is indeed an emergency... Hrmm."
"Hello, I am Kazumi Mishima. I teach at a certain high school.... Mwahaha..."
"It was a joyous day. My students wished to be taught oil painting, so I held a lesson at my secret atelier… [...] I drove everyone home as well… And while heading for the last house, there was a security checkpoint. After being stopped there… it seems I lost consciousness. When I awoke, the First Trial began."
"Pardon... You see, she is a former student of mine. Please forgive her..."
"You look pale, Miss Nao." [...] "Exams are a ways away yet. And I'm sure you'll be fine, Miss Nao."
"To tell the truth, I failed my college exams. I had grades as good as anyone's... And a more or less serious lifestyle... I put in perfectly good effort...At least I believed so. However, where some will pass, some will fail. There's nothing that can be done about it. And, being more conceited than the average person... I lashed out at everything. However, people can always improve themselves. Well, in my case, it was time. It required an above average amount of time... But I regained the courage to face forward. Though I failed, I gained happiness. The dream I had pictured did not come to pass, but the reality I found was much like a dream. There's nothing to fear in failure. A person's life does not end there. As long as you live on, happiness will surely come to you!"
Q-taro is generally friendly and easy-going, but he's also shown that he can be quite selfish, and can be easily swayed by others. Despite appearances, Q-taro is deeply thoughtful and cunning. He finds it difficult to trust those around him, as he believes in evidence of a person's character rather than speculation. His restrictive trust exists because Q-taro hopes that he'll be able to protect everyone from the dangers of the Death Game. He's very truthful and fairly straightforward when he speaks, and is a logic-over-emotions type of thinker.
To go more in-depth on his voice:
Q-Taro is loud and brash, has a weird mix of accents (which he says is an account of growing up in an orphanage), can act selfishly/cowardly, but also wants to get along with everyone. Other than that, he's a hotheaded, look-before-you-leap kinda guy. He approaches most issues simply (not as in dumb, necessarily, just. straightforward approach). A (NDRV3) Momota-type voice would likely suit him (well, Momota’s Japanese voice, idk what the english one sounds like). For the accent: try using colloquial words like ‘is ’zat’ for ‘is that’, ‘didn'tcha’ for ‘didn’t you’, etc etc.
//spoilers//
The interesting thing about Q-Taro is how he’s physically the strongest, but mentally one of the weakest (at the beginning at least). Before russian roulette, his panic causes him to act aggressively. Later, Sou’s meddling gets him so riled up he punches something while having (almost) a temper tantrum. If given the chance, he will choose to save himself over (almost) everyone else.
He does begin to grow in the game, though, especially during the Alice route (and chapter 3). He finally begins to step up by deciding to protect Gin at the cost of his own pain. Although his motives aren’t quite what you’d expect (when Gin’s parents are mentioned, that’s when he goes into action, making it somewhat seem as though he’s doing this for Gin’s parents moreso than Gin himself), the end result is that he did step up, and that’s what matters.
In Chapter 3 Part A, he goes along with everyone in wanting them all to escape the game together. His intentions are proved after finding Midori and the resulting scuffle; he shows incredible understanding towards Mai despite her attempt to end his life, and he doesn’t want to give up on her. This is where he truly comes into his own with a heartfelt plea made to the dummies.
"What's goin' on...? Feels like we're wrapped up in somethin' outrageous."
"Q-Taro Burgerberg! I'm a baseball player. Second string, though!"
"I was all happy after a long-in-coming comeback game, so I went drinkin’, then I don’t remember a thing. Then when I wake up, I got a collar on in this place. Like I’m a dog or somethin’! Such a bummer. Can’t believe I can’t get this thing off!"
"You really suffered... Sayin' not to sweat it after that's just insensitive. But lemme say this! You've done nothin' wrong! Miley's just a true piece'a crap doll! Don't you ever blame yourself, Sara!!"
"You... 'cause of us, you...you...! Don't you feel bitter?"
"What's... wrong with that? I ain't done anything unfair! I'm jus' usin' a right I earned fair and square... so I can go outside first! And I'm gonna call for help! It's a hell of a lot more realistic than rebelling against who knows how many kidnappers! I got no intention of leavin' you guys to die!! I ain't gonna trouble ya... Please, lemme go, Sara...!"
[a heartfelt plea; the pinnacle of his character growth. he is crying at the end] That ain’t what she really thinks! That goes for all you guys, right…? Midori’s got your lives in his hands, so yer just being forced to do this, right? We’re the same!! You and us!! Just stop this… I’m sick of us pinnin’ death on each other!! Work with us, dummies…! We won’t do nothin’ to you guys, Hinako!! So let’s get through this! You guys too…!! [...] Is doin’ as yer told gonna lead to victory?! We’re gonna “win”…!! Right, Kurumada?! If somebody turns traitor, how are we gonna see victory? We all gotta believe… or no miracle’s gonna happen!! We… we’re gonna become true allies now…!!
Ranger was created with nearly only negative personality traits and was initially devoid of any empathy or kindness. He has a strong inferiority complex toward humans which leads him to act with sadistic glee at their despair. He pretends like he treats humans dismissively, but in truth he pays a lot of attention to towards them; Going as far as collecting clothing from dead participants to wear for himself. He usually calls participants 'bastards.'
Ranger's original Japanese name, "トト・ノエル, Toto Noeru" is a pun on 整える,' Totonoeru' literally means "to arrange; to put in order." VGperson named him 'Rio Ranger' in their translation to make up for the pun; as in 'rearranger.'
To go more in-depth on his voice:
Rio Ranger is. Evil bastard. He’s another character who needs to have an incredible range. This guy is intentionally malicious even though he speaks with a carefree tone. A definite villain (at least, so far). His lines should therefore take on a whole different tone/meaning. A lot of them are said with a bubbly, bouncy kind of energy, yet include a sinister underlying tone; he also mimics the voices of certain characters as he uses little pop-up expression cards. He’s cruelly mischievous, knows exactly how to get under people’s skin, and has an incredible amount of disdain for humans //spoilers// which turns out to be because he’s envious of them. He’s similar to Miley in the sense of how they both have this dark, unmistakably evil aura whilst they act ‘nicely’; but the difference is that Miley has poise and (feigns) grace, whilst Ranger goes full-out feral at times, and his composure switches at the drop of a hat. You never know what to expect from him; but it’s never anything good.
He & Miley also both revel in the suffering of others, and have egotistical tendencies; in this case, Miley seems to have this ego because she knows she’s capable of doing anything to get what she wants, and Ranger seems to think he can get away with anything. These two things might sound similar, but there’s a drastic difference in how it affects their thoughts and actions.
"Hey, don't get mad! Everybody seems pretty pleased with it, dont'cha think?"
"I'm the dressup doll, Rio Ranger!"
"...Ahah. Sure enough... You recognized this clip...? It feels good, y'know... Feels like it's full of the dead's regrets..."
"Whew... You bastards got any right to condemn me? This topic's donezo! Now everybody come see what's past these monitors!"
Midori is a cruelly mischievous man shrouded in mystery. He seems to have somewhat sadistic tendencies; deriving happiness from teasing and harassing others for his own amusement, even in life and death situations. He enjoys making others uneasy and playing inappropriate jokes on them.
He is rather controlling; preferring to cheat or trick in order to stay in the dominant position. His energetic and playful manner of speaking is often completely oblivious to the dangerous circumstances of their situation, treating dark topics with little weight; often lightheartedly referencing his own death with no hesitation, and making it into a game.
At times he seems to drop the act, mockingly becoming serious to scold participants if they don't follow his orders. However, this emphasizes just how much he patronizes the others. Despite speaking in a cheerful and cool manner, Midori seems to actively disdain Alice Yabusame, his supposed killer.
Enigmatic and eccentric, his place in ASU-NARO's hierarchy is unclear.
His voice often takes on a 'cheery', or lighthearted tone, despite his words being the exact opposite.
["Apologetic", but not really] Ahaha, sorry to pop up out of the darkness. Did I startle you, I wonder?
[Abruptly sinister] Since he was going to die anyway, I wanted to kill him with my own hands…
[Pretending he didn't just try to kill them] Ahh… Hello? Can you hear me? Sorry! That locker room trap was for an execution, see… I didn’t intend to use it, but it looks like it malfunctioned. I hurried to stop it… are those two okay? [...] So he’s alive! Oh, goody! We can still play plenty more!
Now then… say, could you return that collar to me? I mean, that’s the collar I was wearing. It’d be so lonely if I was the only one safe! [...] Sheesh… that’s a collar for the dead. It’s made completely different from your collars… [Sigh]... Oh well, I guess I’ll use a spare…
[Agreeing] Oh, I’m scared! That’s why I’ve got a gun. It has four bullets… [...] Don;t worry. If you win, you can cheerfully advance to the next floor! But I’ll try my best to make it one shot, one kill… I wanna take at least four people with me… [...] Now… shall we?
[Sara says something unexpected in her attempts to stop Midori from shooting anyone] Ha… Ahaha!! Hahahahahaha!! You truly are the greatest, miss Sara…!!
[Big reveal] What a strange thing… Turns out the criminal didn’t have a gun. There were no witnesses, so Megumi used her position to suppress the incident… She wanted to hide the murder of a subordinate as self-defense. [When asked how much reach he has over the police] How much, indeed…? Enough to feed false info about the gun… And enough to insert a fired policeman into your tragic story, maybe…? [Mockingly] ‘Keiji, watch out!! He’s gonna shoot!!’Ahaha. Just as good an actor as I was then, aren’t I?
Well, you seem motivated… ahaha. How nice hatred is… it lets me satisfy a person 100%... Ahahaha! Let us play, on the greatest of stages!!
Ranmaru is a casual and easy-going boy. He is generally placid in nature, although occasionally flustered, such as when Sara holds his hand. He seems to come off as nervous or awkward in certain situations. Ranmaru also tries to keep quiet and distant until provoked.
He is shown to be compassionate and expresses a want to be useful to others.
He is somewhat brave when he wants to be, such as when he took it upon himself to become "it" to relieve Sara and shut down Hinako questioning him by saying he can do whatever he wants. Despite this, he holds a great fear of death, doing nothing during the battle with Midori in the case that Midori's death would result in his own as well.
Uhhhh… so is just ‘Sara’ fine? [...] You sure? You aren’t gonna come to me later saying you were actually my senior?
[Sharing information] It’s about these red threads on our collars that connect us. If the people in a pair get some distance apart, their collars activate and their heads fly off. Well… actually, that’s only for us ‘supports’. Your collar won’t activate, Sara. S-So don’t get too far from me, okay? Let’s put our differences aside…
But… y’know… …Can you kill Midori? [...] I can’t sympathize with a lowlife like that, but… When I see somebody moving around… I guess I can’t help but see them as human…
Sara… uh… Can we talk for a sec? [...] No, it’s important… it has to be now… [...] Right. You see… there’s a person from Asunaro among us. I’m thinking this is special info only I have. [...] All I know is… there’s a human from Asunaro. And the dummies are dolls, right? [...] Sorry for troubling you… But now was the only time I could say it. I dunno you at all, Sara, but… being just a pair… I kinda don't like it…
Sara, just one more thing… [pauses] ...Nah, sorry. It’s nothin’.
Mai comes across as a friendly though flirtatious person, being talkative and excitable, though occasionally obliviously making remarks that may make people uncomfortable; such as asking Sara to rub her cheek to compare the materials used to construct her doll-form. She tries her best to help the group, though sometimes her ideas lack foresight; especially shown in the optional bad ending in which she lights a firework inside of a library to fight monsters, leading the room to be engulfed in flame with no exit.
Despite this, Mai like the rest of the dolls was given the task to kill their partner to be able to live. She’s the first person to take up this task, stabbing Q-taro in the back and smiling as she does so. It’s later suspected that all the dolls were awaiting the perfect moment to kill their partners, which can be backed up as Mai was often seen close to Q-taro during the investigative periods.
In her First Trial, Mai is shown to be panicked to the point of sobbing, and unable to make a decision decided to go with a random choice to decide her fate.
[squeals in excitement] Eeeee! It’s cute little Sara! You’re going to chat with me?!
Oh, like my measurements? [...] If you tell me what your type is, then I’ll tell you what I know!
Aaaah, I totally get that! People who treat you nice are the best, after all! [gets serious] …But kind people can’t survive here, huh? [hasty backtrack] Ah, sorry if I upset you! [changes subject by recalling the original topic] Right, you wanted to hear my info!
Maaaaster! Won’t you give me a piggyback ride to check the upper ones? [playfully chiding] Master, don’t get chatty! You have to search!
[After she stabs her 'master'] Ahahaha… Soooorry, master… I was always thinking of when to do it…
[continuing] Heeheehee… I’ll tell you. The true objective of us dummies… ‘To kill our partner before Midori dies’. That’s the only way we can survive…
In her final moments alive, Hinako is shown thanking Rio Ranger after realizing he had a part in her death, revealing that she had wanted to die.
Hinako has a blunt way of speaking and somewhat of a fatalist mindset; stating "there's no way to deal with this" in the face of Hayasaka's near-death. Remarked by Gin to be "kinda violent", Hinako easily comes up with solutions for fighting the monsters they encounter, and always offers to fight whatever's in the group's way.
She is rather strategic and thinks before speaking; stating her means of defense against the Death Game is keeping the information she has to herself, for the time being, not wanting to be used by the others.
However, despite her analytical behavior, Hinako is also shown to be slightly different from her human form. She wants to survive and is quick to get on to the other dolls when they insist on helping the survivors, evident when the others try to stop Q-taro from bleeding. She is also quite judgemental and aggravated in the Shin Survives route when Ranmaru decides to be "it" for Sara. As well, during the battle with Midori, she actively stops participants from attacking him, such as grabbing on to Gin's shovel or knocking the gun from Keiji if he tries to shoot, which further proves her desire to live.
Haha… If you just reveal your entire hand… You’ll get used as a pawn, right? Nobody likes being used…
Oh, neat. Are we going on a date? It might take a little more time to hit “friendly”. ...I’m shy, you see.
Haha… Such a terrible rule, isn’t it…? Wonder if you’ll make it…
Tch… How’d she screw that up?! What a moron… To get killed before you could even…! [It is revealed that Mai is still alive] What the?! You didn’t kill her? Are you stupid?! Why would you go easy on her…?! She seriously meant to take your life…!!
Don’t be stupid! Didn’t you hear the rules?! One or the other has to die! We…!!
I won’t give in…! I can’t let you kill Midori…!
Hayasaka is a rather anxious and submissive man that periodically speaks in a stutter, usually accompanied by nervous laughter.
Afraid of the monsters that come to attack, he does his best to help fend them off with the others.
His kindness and humanity are expressed with how distraught he is when Gin risks his life to save him; considering as a Dummy, his life isn't destructible.
Just think about it… I’m not the real Hayasaka. I’m a doll made to look exactly like him. Obviously, the organization wouldn’t leave me any memories that’d be a problem for them, right?
Whew… I was nearly scrapped by my allies there…
I-I’ll confess… The company I work for deals in medical machinery and information, and… Because of that job… I got to know a man from Asunaro. On the surface, Asunaro is an upstanding company that does clean research… But I learned that it has another face. They’re connected to shady businesses, and produce illegal medicines… things of that nature. I even heard rumor that among those were drugs and euthanizing medicines. I also heard about… inhumane research that wasn’t to be spoken of… Thinking about it now, that was probably research into reproducing humans…
[panicked, trying to defend himself] I didn’t know…! I had no idea what they’d do to me if I resisted! Their power is too immense… It’s hardly even an exaggeration to say they control the dark side of society...
Is Gin associating me with him… [Mishima]? And that’s why he tried to protect me… [becomes upset] What an idiot…! He nearly died over that, for the sake of someone he barely even knows…?! When I’m not even human anymore…!!
Kurumada is brusque and does not trust people easily. He tends to banter with others and occasionally refer to them dismissively.
He is also shown to be laid-back and even a bit of a bully, teasing the others and referring to them with strange nicknames. Evidence of this is when Sara takes Sou's collar and Anzu questions if it might explode, in which he loudly imitates an explosion, causing her to freak out. Another occasion is when Kurumada refers to Ranmaru as "Fluffy-mop buddy" when informing Sara of the Obstructors and stating that she could put him to work and that he might work even harder if she gave him a kiss.
Gahaha… You’re Sara Chidouin, ain’t ya? [...] Sure is. You’re just a plain ol’ high schooler. Way to survive, am I right? Straight-up amazin’. [...] Don’t go makin’ allies, dumbass. [...] My bad, my bad. Forget I said it.
Who’s afraid of a book? I’ll beat em down with my fists! ['Gets rid' of it] Hah! Figured it’d be no match. [flabbergasted] The hell? Another book just came out…!
[A mix of rage and maybe some panic] “Don’t screw with me!!! Goddamn it!!”
“Bwahah... You alright? Now might’ve been our best chance y’know?”
“Something like this calls for socking with my fists right?”
“Fine by me... I’ll blow em away!!”
“Stop freaking out. We’re taking it.”
In her first trial, Anzu had trouble comprehending and adapting to high-stress situations and reverted to calling for help even though it seemed unlikely.
Though in Chapter 3, Anzu shows a different side of her personality, where she acts bubbly and slightly air-headed.
She says that she loves dressing up as a clown but is insecure about this and immediately asks Sara if she thinks she's weird after revealing her clown endeavors.
...Urk! You’re judging my outfit, aren’t you?! You think I’m… weird!
[not joking] It’s hard to explain, but see, I do this clown sort of thing outside of school…
Kind of makes my heart pound to visit here…
Waugh, what an awful memory in comparison…
W...What if this is a trap? Won’t it explode?! [...] And what if that makes them explode?! [...] Gyaaaah?! Stop screwing around, stupid!!
I’ll knock over a bookcase and have it crash right onto them! [...] I’m sorry… it didn’t go well at all...
We expect video editors to produce 'clean' videos without watermarks. Please include an example of your editing here (comic dubs preferred if you have any).
We may be selective when it comes to video editors, but we can always help you learn more about editing if needed! (I do plan to include some video editing basics in my how-to video, keep an eye on my channel for that if you're interested in learning).
Please include the name you'd like to go by, your discord profile, and a link to whatever social media you would want to be credited with.

How much you get involved is entirely up to you! I'll go ahead and list things we need audio editors to help with:
Cleaning up audio (noise reduction)
Finding appropriate sound effects for various comics
Separating lines (preferably by cut/copy/pasting in audacity. Note that you will have to upload a file including the audio you used, the audacity project file, and the audacity project itself. This is probably easiest through google drive).
Checking to make sure no lines are missing from VA recordings
Putting lines in order (more details will be shared in the server).
Finding/selecting appropriate music to use for anthology/longer comics
(For those who would want to) Handling the audio for an entire comic/project. You will need to keep the project saved in case the director would like you to make any changes.
To 'apply' just include any audio you've edited here. Keeping it short would be preferable, but if it's a bit longer to include examples of what you can do, that's okay too! Please include the name you'd like to go by, your discord profile, and a description of what you did to edit the audio.

Those who become Voice Actors without specific roles will be able to 'audition' for various roles needed for comics or other projects. These roles will include major and minor roles, although the amount of each type may not be equal.
Please include the name you'd like to go by, your discord profile, and a link to whatever social media you would want to be credited with.
Please include lines that express a variety of emotions in these auditions. You may choose the lines yourself.
You can include examples of character archetypes in your auditions.
You are allowed to use lines from Danganronpa or Your Turn to Die, but you don't have to.
Possible tasks for visual editors include: cleaning manga panels, editing sprites, preparing fanmade comics (so that each new word can appear as the voice actor says them), editing typos, and more.
Please include the name you'd like to go by, your discord profile, and a link to your work (as well as links to any art profiles/collections you may want to share/be credited with).
