Nedroid Motion Comic Dub! [CLOSED]

Nedroid Motion Comic Dub! [CLOSED]

Project Overview

(A full version of this audition can be found in a google doc here)

Hello, everyone! Thanks for taking the time to check this out! My name is JelloApocalypse and I’m looking for two actors to help me dub a handful of Nedroid Picture Showcomics! Nedroid is a series of one-off comics about two best friends, Beartato and Reginald. It follows their everyday lives and the slightly strange and silly things they do and say. Each strip is its own thing and there is no overall continuity. My favorite description of the series is “A newspaper comic if newspaper comics were actually funny.” I need one actor for Beartato and one for Reginald. Other characters will be scouted in the future on a case-by case basis.

I’m looking to dub some of my favorite Nedroid strips and turn them into motion comic dubs. For reference the end product will look something like this video I made this summer. I will be doing all the sound and visual editing myself. Please note that I would like to do a number of these dubs in the future and will be coming to the actors sporadically for more lines over time, so while the commitment is low, this is technically a long-term project. If you think you will lose interest after doing a strip or two and want to quit, please do not audition.

AUDITION GUIDELINES

Please put all takes for one character in an MP3 file separated by a second or so of silence. You can do up to two takes per line and if you want you can audition for both characters. Please name your files in the following format: Character_YourName.mp3.

So, for example, if I auditioned for both Beartato and Reginald I would send a file named Beartato_JelloApocalypse.mp3 with all the Beartato lines together, and then another file titled Reginald_JelloApocalypse.mp3 with all of the Reginald lines. Any auditions that fail to meet these requirements will be thrown out immediately.

  • Good mic quality is a must here, no laptop mics or Snowballs.

  • Actors will be directed live over Skype. If you are not comfortable with this, do not audition.

Please send your auditions to [redacted]. I am happy to answer any questions you might have via email. If you have a question, be sure to email me as I will not be regularly checking this thread.

The audition deadline will be

September 26th at Midnight US Central Time

Project Roles: Reginald Beartato

Reginald is a blue bird who is very confident in himself, sometimes to the point of being cocky or narcissistic. He is occasionally absent-minded. He is either fully confident in what he’s saying or totally sweating and worried. Tends to react in a big way when things go wrong. He is best friends with Beartato.

Preferred Voice: Around 20-25 years old. Confident and forward. Somewhat snappy. Maybe a touch nasal. Can switch from a medium energy level to a high one very quickly. Thinks he has more experience with life than he probably does. When he’s worried or uncertain it’s very obvious.

  • “I’m wearing one to show my support for Beartato. Plus, you can fit a lot of corn chips in here!”

  • “Why not? You said ‘anytime.’ Now is a time! I choose now!”

  • “Uh oh. There go your backups. Beartato, I’m going to be honest with you. I lost your computer. But your printer’s working!”

Beartato (pronounced “Bear-tay-toe”) is a small bear who resembles a potato. He is a pleasant and intelligent person who sometimes acts as the voice of reason but is not above going along with some of Reginald’s more ridiculous ideas. He and Reginald are best friends.

Preferred Voice: Higher pitched. His voice probably sounds a bit on the younger side even though what he’s saying is generally more mature than Reginald. Usually very down-to-earch but can get excited or flustered quickly. More of a head voice than a chest voice.

  • “Hello and welcome to ‘Ask Beartato!’ Alejandro asks: ‘Hey Beartato, how’s the Mustache coming?’ Not great!”

  • “Teach me how to whistle!”

  • “There… There’s nothing in here except butter. It’s not even wrapped, it’s just… out there.”
