Mercy’s Gamble: An Original Audiobook
Project Overview
Mercy’s Gamble is an original story by me. It was inspired by the Percy Jackson series and Moon Knight. My plan is to have all the actors in discord, recording lines live. This is going to be a series of 7 videos on YouTube with sound effects and music where each chapter of the book is an episode. (Discord is mandatory please put it in your submission!) this is a very beginner friendly project, I’ll take anyone who fits the character!
The Story: Archeologist Xander Grail and his husband, Snake Averous, are invited to the ruins of Troy to use their skills in linguistics and ancient history to decipher some weird scripture on a bronze plaque. Canan Osman, the director of the Troy Ruins and Museum tells Xander and Snake about paranormal activity happening on site. Snake doesn’t believe him, while Xander is plagued by a nightmare where a terrifying eldritch creature, The God of Wrath, tells him “I have been waiting a long time to fulfill my purpose,” then Xander wakes up. Xander, Canan and Snake all go to the tomb, and Xander is attacked by a hord of black maggots and worms, which drag him down the stairs. When Snake goes to investigate, he reads the Latin scripture, and Wrath appears, having been released from his shackles, and takes over his body, claiming his soul. The Goddess of Mercy shows up and temporarily banishes Wrath back to his shadow realm, and vows to reunite Xander with his husband in death, no matter how taboo the concept is in the divine realm of Olympus. From then on, Mercy and Xander meet Apollo, Athena, and many other Gods and Goddesses, who all band together to stop Wrath from bringing Kronos back from the depths of Tartarus.

He is the Greek God of Dreams and Sleep. I picture him kind of like Merlin from the animated Disney movie The Sword in the Stone. He like the fun grandpa, an old man with a nightcap, like the Gandalf of Greek Mythology (At least my version of him is)

Hera, my word! What happened to you? Where is Zeus, why is he not here with you?
You have to leave, escape! Go find Zeus, tell him what has happened! I’ll—I’ll—figure something out for myself. Kronos wants me to send the Humans a collective dream, threatening their deaths if they don’t worship the Titan…It’s horrible—cruel! But—Kronos has me bound to do as he says, or I’ll be crushed by this very cage.
Don’t worry about me, worry about how to defeat Kronos first…I come secondary to the greater good.

We were both afraid of the consequences that could arise from Kronos gaining more power, we’re more than happy to aid you, Mercy.
We all want our homes back, yes?” Artemis declared, “Well then, we need a plan that is so well thought out, so unbreakable that not even Kronos can see us coming! We have a plentiful amount of powers and skills amongst us, we must fight to see another day, and win to see a thousand more!
We’ll do whatever possible to help.
She is the Goddess of the Moon, and I picture her being a lot like Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter movies. She has a very sweet and innocent tone, she loves her girlfriend, Artemis, very much, and sees her as a symbol of protection and hope. Selene may seem sweet and soft, but she has a dangerous side to her. When in battle, she can be just as ruthless as Athena.

Artemis, I’m certain we’ll find a way to win, look who we have on our side…We’re not alone anymore.
I feel awful for all of you, to have your livelihoods ripped away…Is so sad.
May the moon bring you light and luck as you embark on this journey!

(in a sort of teasing way) Well then, maybe you should stop prancing around the dining room and reply to Mr. Osman’s message, hm?
my dad owned a red 1953 Chevrolet Corvette…If he hadn’t ran that thing off a bridge in 89…I would own it right now. Although I love the old models, the newer ones are sporty and lightweight, my kind of style~
I’d rather you defeated Wrath, and lived. You can experience all the joys of life…I can’t.
Kronos is a Titan, defeated by Zeus many many centuries ago. He is fueled by his hatred for his children, and the obsession to gain power so he can never be defeated again. (He is a small role at the end of book 1, and a larger role in the second book)

You’re all looking at me with hatred, but I assure you, there is nothing you can do to stop me rebuilding this realm to my preference. I will not let my children take away my power again…I will not let anyone humiliate me…I am whole again…And I shall remain whole!
She is the Goddess of Witchcraft, Ghosts and Necromancy. She’s very mischievous, and enjoys playing with the lives of humans. Although she can come across as intimidating, she can easily be made to see reason if someone proves their strength to her. She has a fondness for human spirits, wanting to do her best to help them cross over into the afterlife, and gaining their favour in return. She has a fairly deep female voice, something akin to the Evil Queen from the original Snow White animated movie.

Necromancy is an art form. The ability to control the dead is magnificent, and something that Kronos finds rather useful. I have been spared by the great Titan, and I am thankful to be given the chance once more to share my cherished powers with the world,” she chuckled evilly to herself, “Hades, my friend, if you join Kronos, he will spare your life. I would hate to see a close friend like you perish for nothing~
You’re certainly a fighter, my friend, but I’ve been holding back—in all honesty, I didn’t think you’d survive this long, well done!” She gave him a condescending clap of approval, “I thought you might find this battle a little easier fighting something more, familiar~
You have to choose one, Hades! Either fight the dead dog, or let me take your wife! The answer is simple!
Ares is the God of War, also known as The Spirit of Battle. He hates Zeus and Hera, his parents, for disowning him. He is seen as bloodthirsty and ruthless, and called the worst of the Gods of Olympus by Zeus himself. You think dear Eris and I want to defeat Kronos? That’s funny, because I don’t remember respecting your authority while you were the ruler of Olympus. Kronos wants what we want, a world where the castaways, like Eris, Wrath and I, can thrive without your scrutiny!
She is the Goddess of Marriage and Women, and the wife of Zeus. She has a very sweet and ethereal voice, very loving and motherly. She’s well respected in the realm of the Gods because of her devotion to peace. She has a deep hatred for violence, and resents those who’s path in life is only to cause pain and suffering.

Everyone is gone, Hypnos, everyone was banished from Olympus! No one wants to follow Kronos—why would they! So he sent every God and Goddess who opposed him to the Human realm. When Zeus left to destroy Wrath, I thought everything would turn out fine! But here I am, a sobbing mess in a dingy dungeon—this is not okay! Nothing is okay! I am not okay, I just want to be with my husband!
there is no need to unsheathe the sword to kill here! You said it yourself, Kronos won’t fall for the same methods as before! We can fight with intelligence, trickery!
Listen, Snake, I know you feel useless, but you’re still the same man you were…you just…Don’t look the same. It’s no different for Xander,” she leaned closer, “why did you fall in love?
He is the God of Strength and Heros, always trying to show off his heroics (mainly to please the ladies) he’s very self confident and even in the toughest of situations, he doesn’t get rattled, unless something happens that he didn’t plan for. He hates when others try to show off in a more flashy way than him, although he appears untouchable, he is afraid of failure and becoming forgotten.

(Mercy is a main character meaning she has many lines: Chapters: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7) Mercy was created to counter the destruction caused by the Trojan War. Her counterpart is the God Wrath, who was responsible for killing many on both sides of the war. Mercy is a very motherly and warm individual, she is known best for having no bias against humans, if they are dying, she does her best to save their life…If not…She gives them a merciful death. Mercy feels conflicted during this story, because she is forced to take lives, which goes completely against her built in moral code. Throughout the story, she becomes stronger, more confident in her ability to choose her own path.

DON’T call me darling again, do you hear me?
I suppose you can’t have Mercy without Wrath. But, that doesn’t mean that ideology still applies now, perhaps you can have Mercy without Wrath.
And I’m glad you finally respect me, Athena.
(Wrath is the main Villain, and has a very creepy, echoey demonic voice: Chapters: 1, 2, 3, 6, 7) Wrath was created to counter Mercy’s healing capabilities during the Trojan War. Wrath and Mercy used to be in love, and all the Gods and Goddesses of Olympus thought that it was wrong for two completely opposite people, people who were born to hate one another, to fall in love. Wrath is a trickster, and loves chaos. He used to look really handsome, before he stole Herme’s staff, Caduceus, which turned him into a nightmare creature with a swinging eyeball that ticks. Mercy no longer loved him, and Zeus saw Wrath as a potential threat, and ordered Mercy to shackle him to a tomb in Troy for eternity…That is…Until the first chapter of this story. Wrath is malicious and evil, he can also control black warms of bugs which turn to ash when killed. (I’m looking for a voice actor with a terrifying voice, like, really go for it, Wrath loves being a villain!)

You all fight my creations like you don’t respect me! Let’s see what you can do against an armoured giant!
(A main character: Chapters: 3-4-5-6-7) Apollo is the God of Archery, he’s very confident in himself and kind of has a hero complex. He’s very close with the Goddess of Mercy and they end up together. Although he comes across as being too confident, he honestly cares for Mercy and even gives her some good advice at times. He likes calling Xander Grail “Kid” one because it annoys him, two, because he sees potential in him and wants to mentor him a bit.

I would say that it's nice to see you after so long, but it's not.
Of course, Mercy, you've never done me wrong before, so I figured I'd help, just this once.
You deserve someone who will return your love, no strings attached, no evil endeavours. Someone, I don’t know…Like me?
(Side Character: Chapters: 4-5-6-7) Athena is the Goddess of Warfare. She’s very strong willed and looks down on those (Goddess of Mercy) who she sees as weak. She hates Mercy. Athena can also be very abrasive and unkind, always trying to be right in an argument. Although she has these qualities, if there is a battle, she will do everything in her power to help her allies win, no matter the cost.

You were always weak, Mercy! Healing soldiers from both the Greek and Trojan sides!
If the world didn’t need to be balanced by divine forces, you and Wrath wouldn’t even exist. How does it make you feel? Knowing you no longer have a true purpose?
I’m glad to see you’ve grown a spine over the years, Mercy.
(a side character: Chapters: 2-5-6-7) Aphrodite is the Goddess of Love. She is best friends with the Goddess of Mercy and is always trying to meddle in her love life, get the latest tea. She loves quiet and beautiful places, and absolutely despises Athena because of the Trojan War and what sides they fought on. Aphrodite is very cheery, and definitely has seductive undertones to her voice.

A golden arrow zipped by Xander's ear, and before anyone had time to react, it had already impaled Wrath straight through the chest, pinning him to the solid darkness below. Maggots and worms splashed and squirmed away from Wrath's stolen body. Xander fell to the floor, trying to crawl away as fast as possible. A flock of ravens descended from the darkness and surrounded him, pecking and clawing at his exposed skin awhile Apate laughed with a sadistic smile. Birds started dropping, one by one, with golden arrows impaling their bodies as they dissolved into the darkness. Xander whipped around, and standing above him was the glowing figure of Apollo.
The air was warm and the sun was bright. Xander absentmindedly flicked Snake's purple lighter, on and off, as he stared out at the breathtaking view through the window of the bedroom Canan assigned to him. Rocky green hills covered in lively green trees blanketed the surrounding area. Turquoise and cyan blue water lapped up on sandy strips of beach. Orange roofed houses scattered the neighbourhood, with beautiful outdoor pools, and Canan's vacation house was luxurious yet cosy, with a mixture of tan, blue and white furniture and accents.
France was known for having a gorgeous and charming countryside. Xander Grail, and his husband, Snake Averous, purchased a family chateau in Chinon’s Loire Valley. They were both history buffs. Xander was a world renowned archeologist, and travelled the world working at dig sites. He spent his life uncovering history’s lost treasures, and many times, succeeded in doing so. Snake was an Art History professor, and spent most of his time in central France teaching. He had another passion too, the study of Ancient languages. Summer was the time of year when the two lovers had nothing else to do except explore the world; attend historical lectures, and visit the greatest monuments and ruins together.

Just know, if you ever need anything, I'm willing to talk—despite the fact we don't know each other that well. I never wanted this to happen, it's my fault Snake was...Consumed? I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around this whole 'Gods and Goddesses are actually real,' thing.
Have fun, Xander, with the Gods or whatever...I need a drink...
You may think I’m crazy for saying this, but…My team and I, we’ve been feeling this…Presence…Since uncovering and opening the limestone vault, there have been…Supernatural Incidents.
(Hermes is a side character, but will become more important in later books: Chapters: 5-6-7) Hermes is the god of trade, wealth, fertility, ex ex, but he’s most known for his mischief and cleverness. He loves a good practical joke…Unless that joke is Wrath taking his precious staff, to which Wrath became a horrifying eldritch horror as punishment. So long as the joke is not on Hermes, he approves! This man is a bit over confident, and a bit crude and arrogant at times, but he means well…Unless he doesn’t.

your situation is, honestly, very strange and unique. Everyone is talking about it, and the release of Wrath upon the world. It’s caused quite the commotion here on Olympus. Although no one will admit it, they fear the power of Wrath

(A side character: Chapters: 4-5-6-7) Zeus is the God of the Sky and God of Thunder. He comes across as very strict and not approachable. He’s like the looming disappointed father of Olympus. My son, Apollo; daughter, Athena; the Goddess, Mercy, and Xander Grail, the Human…You have caused quite a stir in the mortal realm, so much so we here on Olympus can hear it.
My children, and Mercy, you know as well as I that Wrath poses a significant threat to the balance of the human world, and thus, the world of the Gods as well.
You never fought in the Trojan War, Hades, so you would have never seen Wrath’s more dangerous powers. I-I never thought I would see my own brother, a powerful God, fall under his control.
(A side Character: Chapters: 5-6-7) Poseidon is the God of the Sea. He’s known for being the most hotheaded brother between him, Zeus and Hades. He loves the power he has, and he hates people who try to challenge him. (A main Villain: Chapters 5-6-7) Eris is the Goddess of Discord and Strife, she loves tormenting other Gods and Goddesses, and even played a huge part in starting the Trojan War.
