Mekakucity Dubs (Kagerou Project Fandub YouTube Channel)

Project Overview

Kagerou Project (often shortened to "Kagepro") is a VOCALOID song series created by Jin (Shizen no Teki-P) and illustrated by Shidu and Wannyanpu. It consists of 15 main songs, 7 exclusive songs, and 4 bonus tracks. The main songs and exclusive songs are sung by VOCALOID vocalists Hatsune Miku and IA while the bonus tracks are voice acted by renowned voice actress Kana Hanazawa.

Kagerou Project tells the story of a group of teenagers who call themselves the "Mekakushi Dan" (Blindfold Gang) who possess bizarre eyes that grant them superhuman "eye abilities". The series deals with the themes of loss, friendship, love, and human mortality in a beautiful audio-visual format. Kagerou Project has been adapted into a manga series, several light novels, and even an anime. More information can be found on the Kagerou Project Wiki.

Kagerou Project has always been near and dear to my heart, and I have decided that I, along with my good friend whiterose-crimson, would like to make a YouTube Channel called Mekakucity Dubs in which we, along with a cast of voice actors that we will recruit from this project page, will fandub the Kagepro manga, fan comics, doujinshi, and even take viewer requests!

REQUIREMENTS:
- Clear audio quality. You don't need to have a professional microphone, but I do ask that your audio is clear with minimal to no background noise.
- Discord account. All cast members and directors will be corresponding with each other on a Discord server. Discord is free and easy to use, and you can get it here.
- Availability and commitment. Please be available for correspondence in a timely manner. We are not asking that you devote your entire life to this project, but we do ask that you are available to communicate with on a semi-daily basis. Furthermore, please do not stay with us for a bit and then fall off the face of the Earth. We are looking for people who are willing to commit to this project. We plan on uploading at least one fandub to YouTube per week to begin.

OTHER INFORMATION:
This project is safe for work, meaning that there will be no adult content involved. You do not need to be 18 years or older to audition. "Adult content" includes explicit sexual themes, strong language, and brutal, excessive depictions of violence. However, this project will contain some brief violence and deal with the themes of child abuse and suicide. If any of that bothers you, please do not audition for this project.

We will only be casting major characters on this project page. Minor characters will be casted as needed within the Discord server mentioned above with cast members receiving priority. If cast members cannot fill the role, a new project page will be created to bring a brand new actor into our cast.

  • We are in the process of casting.

    Thank you to everyone who auditioned for MEKAKUCITY DUBS. We are currently reviewing each submitted audition and selecting the final cast. We will be finished casting today, May 21, 2017. All casted voice actors will be sent a private message outlining the process to add both directors on Discord. Once you add both directors on Discord, please direct message each director with your preferred name, pronouns, and which role you were casted in. IF YOU ARE CAST AND DO NOT ADD/DIRECT MESSAGE THE DIRECTORS ON DISCORD WITHIN 7 DAYS OF BEING NOTIFIED OF YOUR CASTING, YOUR ROLE WILL BE GIVEN TO ANOTHER ACTOR. Eye Ability: Favoring Eyes (目をかける Me wo Kakeru) - Ayano's eye ability allows her to project thoughts and memories to others, which she refers to as "the power of caring".

Ayano is the founder and was the first leader of the Mekakushi Dan. She is a cheerful girl who was Shintaro's classmate during middle and high school. Although always staying at Shintaro's side, she does believe in her abilities to put him out of his apathy. Ayano performs poorly in school, but still keeps an upbeat attitude. Ayano forgets things in class a few minutes after learning them; but it is shown that she can do well if she tries her hardest. Even though she called herself stupid, she is always smiling and seems to be having fun. She is occasionally said to punish her brothers when they are misbehaving in a comedic way. Ayano cares deeply for her family and wants nothing more than for them to be happy, even if everyone couldn't be together. She treated her adopted siblings equally and always played with them when they were younger.

We would like Ayano's voice to be cheery and upbeat. Her voice should be kind and comforting. The pitch should be medium-high.

Mekakushi Dan Member Number: 1
Eye Ability: Concealing Eyes (目を隠す Me o Kakusu) - Kido's ability allows her to divert perception towards objects and people within two meters of herself, rendering them invisible. Conversation while hidden also won't be heard by outsiders. Physical contact, however, breaks the effect, so it isn't useful in very crowded places. Along with this vulnerability, if a person outside the two meter range is familiar with someone being concealed, her power will not be as strong.

Although Kido, the current leader of the Mekakushi Dan, is naturally kind and one of the most level-headed within the group, she is very short-tempered and has difficulty keeping other members, especially Kano, in line. Of course, while she may appear scary at first glance due to her dark expression, she is very nurturing and maternal.

In the past she was, generally, uninterested in what activities her siblings would participate in. However, that doesn't mean that she wouldn't join in on their games from time to time. Her issues with her temper have been around since a relatively young age. Due to her ability which allows her to appear invisible, Kido's presence is quite weak. This often leads to people ignoring her unintentionally, causing her to fear the possibility that she may disappear permanently. With this fact, she becomes a bit fearful whenever someone mentions not being able to notice her at first.
We would like Kido's voice to be somewhat monotonous, but not completely void of all emotion. Emotion should err on the side of confident and authoritative. The pitch should be medium-low.

Mekakushi Dan Member Number: 2
Eye Ability: Stealing Eyes (目を盗む Me o Nusumu) - Seto's eye ability allows him to read the target's mind by making eye contact with them. He is also able to understand animals using his eye ability. However, even though he is able to understand animals, the animals cannot understand him because to them, he still speaks human language.

Seto is a kindhearted person who gets along with most everybody. He often seen wandering off to explore new places. He is incredibly fond of animals, and they seem drawn to him. To earn money, Seto works as a florist at a shopping center and has other jobs, such as delivering newspapers. Seto dislikes his Eye Ability and rarely uses it on anyone. He first discovered his ability when he found that he could understand the speech of animals while wandering through a forest before his first encounter with Marry.

We would like Seto's voice to sound friendly and expressive. The pitch should be medium-low to low.

Mekakushi Dan Member Number: 3
Eye Ability: Deceiving Eyes (目を欺く Me o Azamuku) - Kano's ability allows him to change what people around him perceive him as, showing them something different. He can only use it on himself, therefore he cannot change the appearances of others. His power limits itself to only being able to transform him into living beings that he has actual contact with. To be able to use his ability, he must know one's looks, voice, and smell. His ability cancels out if he is inflicted with physical pain. The reason he needs to feel pain in order to cancel out his power is because "pain" reminds him of himself, just like remembering something or someone transform him into them.

Outwardly, Kano has an unfocused, aloof personality and always has a smile on his face. Because he playfully teases Marry, Momo, and Kido a lot, he's often considered to be a flirt-- but when it counts, he's worth relying on. His actual personality, which he hides behind his ability the majority of the time, is quite subdued and mature. He seems to be mistrustful of others and carries around self-loathing tendencies, believing himself to be "useless".

We would like Kano's voice to be generally playful and comedic, but more detached when he speaks on serious themes such as death or his life before he gained his eye ability. The pitch should be medium-low to medium-high.

Eye Abilities:



  • Locking Eyes (目を合わせる Me o Awaseru) - Marry has a power known as the "Locking Eyes" ability, which she inherited from her mother Shion and her grandmother Azami. It allows her to temporarily stop the movement of whoever meets her gaze. It is not as complete as her mother's or grandmother's power as she is not able to turn people into stone, but can paralyze them for a short amount of time.


  • Combining Eyes (目を合体させる Me o Gattaisaseru) - Marry also has the ability to combine and therefore control all snakes, as well as the Heat Haze, due to receiving the queen of the snakes. It was given to her by Azami when she died and entered the never ending world.


Marry is 1/4 gorgon, 3/4 human. She is generally extremely shy around people and can barely stay calm around new acquaintances. Marry tends to be very clumsy due to not having much world experience outside of her childhood home, which she hardly left, in a forest. Because she had to spend most of her life by herself, Marry treasures her friends from the bottom of her heart and cannot live without them being around anymore.

Mekakushi Dan Member Number: 5
Eye Ability: Drawing Eyes (目をうばう Me o Ubau) - Momo's ability allows her to draw peoples' attention, regardless of their preferences, tastes, interests. She is also able to tell where and how to focus a person's attention. Momo cannot control her power as well as Kido. The maximum range and power of her ability is quite large, as she is seen at one point attracting the attention of an entire city despite being locked indoors within a facility.

Momo is a very popular pop idol performer. Before meeting the Mekakushi Dan, Momo was often alienated from people and had no friends due to the strict limitations placed on her by her talent agency. After meeting the Mekakushi Dan, Momo regained her original, bright personality. She has a peculiar sense in food and fashion and it's common for her opinions to disagree with people in these areas.

Mekakushi Dan Member Number: 7
Eye Ability: Retaining Eyes (目に焼き付ける Me ni Yakitsukeru) - Shintaro's eye ability, given to him by Marry after promising long ago to "never forget this tragedy", allows him to remember everything he sees, including the events of broken time loops.

Shintaro is an 18 year old hikikomori with an IQ of 168. His IQ enables him to have something similar to photographic memory, so he can remember anything and everything, which is a benefit with thorns. Since everything in the world seems to have obvious answers, Shintaro has an apathetic personality. He is also very fidgety, even in present-day. After Ayano's death, he began to regret losing her, trying to understand her true feelings of why she committed suicide. Later on, after two years had passed, he became hopelessly addicted to the internet and even states that he would die without it. Shintaro forces himself to remember Ayano and is afraid of forgetting her. Because of this, he intentionally avoids contact with people and refuses to move forward.

We would like Shintaro's voice to be somewhat monotonous, but not completely void of all emotion. Emotion should err on the side of nervousness and sadness. The pitch should be medium-low to low.

Eye Ability: Opening Eyes (目を覚ます Me o Samasu) - Ene's ability grants her immortality and the ability to transform into a cyber-being.

Ene is a naïve, often cheeky, cyber girl who started living inside of Shintaro's computer as a virus after she arrived in an e-mail from an unknown sender. She can invade anything that uses electricity, and goes out of her way to annoy Shintaro but is also reflective when her pranks get out of hand. She usually renames the folders on his computer, changes his passwords, and other similar things. Although she can be deleted from his computer, Ene will reappear as soon as Shintaro connects to the Internet again.
Ene was once a human girl named Takane who attended the same school as Shintaro and Ayano. Takane used to be frustrated with her illness which would frequently cause her to fall asleep. Around her classmate, Haruka, she tended to act disinterested and angry about a lot of things he did. Despite this, Takane was secretly in love with him. After losing her human body and becoming data, she became much more cheerful and extremely noisy instead. We would like Ene's voice to be as bubbly and energetic as possible. Takane's voice should be just as expressive, albeit perpetually annoyed rather than bubbly. The pitches should be medium-high to high. BOTH OF THESE VOICES SHOULD BE HIGHLY REMINISCENT OF EACH OTHER.

Mekakushi Dan Member Number: 8
Eye Ability: Focusing Eyes (目を凝らす Me o Korasu) - Hibiya's ability allows him to to perceive objects and details that are far away from an aerial view.

Hibiya is a 12 year old boy who is mature for his age but shown to be very brash. After escaping the time loop and joining the Mekakushi Dan, Hibiya fell into a deep depression over the death of his best friend and crush, Hiyori. Momo managed to pull him out of his depression after considerable effort on her part, and Hibiya eventually regained his mature personality, albeit less biting.

We would like Hibiya's voice to be mostly melancholy and subdued, but not completely detached and still childlike in nature. The pitch should be medium-low to medium-high.

  • "Hiyori, I... I really loved you."

  • "How was I supposed to know who she was?! I'd never seen her before in my life!"

Mekakushi Dan Member Number: 9
Eye Ability: Awakening Eyes (目を醒ます Me o Samasu) - Konoha's ability gave him the power to remake his body into one that he finds to be his "ideal" . As Haruka was physically weak and sickly, this meant for him to become supernaturally strong. However, this put a large strain on his mind, and as a result, Konoha has no memories.

Konoha is a gentle and quiet hyper-realistic android with no memories. Because of this, he is known to possess a strong curiosity for the unknown. Not knowing about the normal world, he's rather air-headed, thus easily forgets many things. In his spare time, he plays baseball with the neighborhood children. He seems like a brother to Hiyori and Hibiya and is always with them.

Konoha was once a human named Haruka, who attended school with Shintaro, Ayano, and Takane. Haruka did not care much about what people thought of him. He was often drawing and not paying attention in class. He was known to have a serious illness or disease that gave him a weak physical body, and as a result he was often sickly.

Konoha's body was later possessed by the Snake of Clearing Eyes, creating a hybrid body dubbed "Black Konoha". Black Konoha is under complete control of the Snake of Clearing Eyes, its only goal being to coerce Marry into using her power to unite all of the snakes by any means necessary. Black Konoha is incredibly sadistic and seems to enjoy causing the Mekakushi Dan intense suffering.

We would like Konoha's voice to be mostly monotonous, but still show a slight hint of life. Haruka's voice should be carefree and nostalgic with a cheerful overtone. Black Konoha's voice should be playful and sadistic, in a constant tone of cruel glee. The pitches should be low to medium-low. ALL OF THESE VOICES SHOULD BE HIGHLY REMINISCENT OF EACH OTHER.

  • (as KONOHA) "This world appears to be a little dangerous..." | "Konoha? Yeah, that's my name... What about you?"

  • (as HARUKA) "I thought this was an unreasonable idea, Takane, but thanks to you, this is going to be really fun!" |
    "Takane, I may not understand why you're so worried, but it's not
    like I'll hate you or anything, no matter how much you change. So don't
    be so down about it!"

  • (as BLACK KONOHA) "That's it, just like that! Start over again, from the beginning! Relive this never-ending nightmare one more time!" | "If he is truly dear to you, then use your monstrous powers."
